Re-installed Ultimate: Remote Control Wont Work Anymore

I have this remote control,I just re-installed VIsta Ultimate, and now this remote control is not working anymore.. it was working fine before I did the re-install..it comes w/no driver, so short of disconnecting and connecting the transmitter again to a USB port not sure what more I can do.. it used to work fine not just with Windows Media Center but also with Rhapsody and other stuff, now it does not work at all... I just put new batteries in it... when I press a button on the remote the green light on the remote goes on and the red light on the transmitter also goes on.. so it's definitely not a battery problem..
(I know there's another, more specialized ng for this question in microsoft.public.windows.vista hierarchy, but I'm posting thru google now and can't find that group (posting thru google for now b/c also have not been able to retrieve all prefs/info (i.e., passwords) for my news client (Thunderbird).

I know Vista Ultimate can only be installed on one PC. However, will it work if I take out the hard drive and put it into another PC?

Clicking on the icon does not start the application anymore, I think this may be the case after insalling Visat SP1 but my timing could be off.

My problem is that I have recently become disabled and sitting at my PC in my office is not doing my back any good at all: I've been told to avoid using my office type chair. I'm thinking of getting a laptop which I could use in the room next door (my lounge)- the laptop could 'talk' to the rest of my setup via my wireless router. However, I'm not keen on using the laptop for anything other than remotely controlling my PC - if, indeed, that's possible: hopefully, the laptop could show my Pc's desktop and I could operate the laptop just as though I were sitting at my PC.

Im currently rebuidling a friends computer. I am installing vista and adding software for him. Is there any software I can add that will let me take control of the computer when he is back at home and I am at my house? I dont want him to be able to see the program starting up all the time because I may never need to use it and he doesnt want me to install it. However I know in a few weeks time he will be on the phone asking me to deploy Logmein IT Reach to him and I really cant be bothered. I want to set it up now so I can control it whenever I need to. I have also installed a hidden admin account to use.

I'm wondering if anyone as seen a comprehensive list of the various media center applications and the tuners they support? I'm doing this mainly because my tuner isn't supported on MS's Media Center. Microsoft Media Center: no combination cards supported (like mine - the Asus 9520, aka Nvidia Geforce 5200, which has the tuner built into the video card)
Intervideo Home Theater 2: mine works great, but they don't seem to support digial tv - so my satellite recvr won't be able to be controled by the Intervideo remote control that i got with the card...etc... (I can only choose cable or antenna as the source - not satellite or stb) Otherwise, i use it fine. Support sucks, and it has been bought by Corel recently. Meebia - bought by Yahoo, now Yahoo! Go - TV.. seems they have a short list, haven't tried mine. Moxi TV for PC - not out yet, looks promising. Cyberlink PowerCinema - haven't tried it yet. Beyond TV - tried it in the past, didn't work. may try it again now that i have the latest drivers for all my stuff.

I was using remote desktop from my win2000 to my vista yesterday completely fine. however id been having some trouble with the vista machine and reinstalled vista. Today I allowed remote assistance on my vista machine and found i couldnt connect. I looked it up and realised that the remote desktop, usually under the remote assistance option, was gone. I had set vista to install the recommended updates only, but being vista, about 5 out of the 25 didnt install. Im guessing the remote desktop functionality is in one of these updates i have not installed, my question is: which one. Or is it not in the "recommended" updates, and if so, could you give me a clue which updates i should be installing to return remote desk... However if there is some kind of command that unlocks it or something, even better! This forum looks great, im sorry to start with a qustion though D;!!!

I have an issue with Remote Assistance whenever someone sends me an invite through live I accept and it never launches the next window for me to see there screen and they never get the prompt. What I Have found thus far is that after a reboot it usually works and when it doesnt work I find msra.exe running in processes and as soon as I end the task it then comes up. This only happens on my Vista 64 Bit Ultimate Copy and doesnt happen at all with 32 Bit. I have DMZ on both firewalls off as well as on the PC and same results. and it is driving me crazy although I have a work around for the time being even though it is annoying

I installed the upgrade to windows vista ultimate, because I thought I had to when I bought my computer. Now that I know it is unneccessary, I want to use just the vista Retail. How do I uninstall Vista Ultimate? I have already gone into control panel and it does not give me the options. Am I going to need to do a system restore? And if I do, is that going to wipe off everything else that i have installed.

At the moment it runs XP pro (Very well i might add!) but my friend insists on wanting Vista ultimate installed instead. I have shown him the rig with XP running but he is not convinced! So before he rushes out and buys a copy, i would like to get some "Real world" opinions on vista ultimate on this hardware. (just so i dont get a ear full of abuse if its slow as a snail!)

I've just spent a fair amount of time getting Vista Ultimate x64 running quite well thank you very much,now MS is saying Windows 7 will be available late 2009 or early 2010.So after spending a decent amount of hard earned cash on Vista will there be an upgrade version for Vista users or will I have to purchase "7" and waste my Vista installations???.

I just upgraded my Lenovo Z60m last night to Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit and now i can't get any sound out whatsoever. Ive tried attaching headphones and stuff but none of them work. im pretty sure its probably my driver problem but i have no idea how to check what my sound card is. ive already tried realtek and soundmax but none of them work! Anyone has an idea where and how to check my soundcard and how to solve this problem?

Ive been running my Vista hiccup free for about a year when all of the sudden a bunch of errors started appearing. In order to get to my login screen after boot took 45 minutes for some reason and was a pain I dealt with. Now I have a bigger problem
-The control panel did not work and whenever vista loaded a ton of errors arose.
-This came from windows services not being able to start and this therefore did not allow windows to check if it was genuine.
-After a week, windows went into limited mode where I only have a blackscreen and access to the internet, nothing else. Microsoft support gave me no help and the problem cannot be fixed without re-installing Vista. No problem i thought.
-Popped in the original vista dvd and changed the bios to boot from CD. This is where the problem lies.
-When I do this, it does nothing with the dvd, I wait 45 minutes until my login screen appears and I am back into limited mode. I want to re-install vista but cannot boot from cd/ dvd.

Indexing does not work and "in Control Panel, the Advanced tab is unavailable. The tab appears dimmed, and you cannot select it. Additionally, the Windows Desktop Search service does not start." I have tried several fixes suggested in the MS KB and in this forum but none helped me - all of the fixes seem to be pre-SP1.
My Vista system is: Factory Installed Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 with all updates on Gateway 4 core processor and less than three months in use. When I start Wsearch manually it terminates in about 3 seconds then repeats this in a loop till I disable the service. Tries to remove old catalog and create new one - Fails One error is 0x80040D23 (Event ID 3026)- insufficient system resources. - Hard to believe with 600GB disk and 6GB memory! Also Event IDs 1008, 1015, 1004 1008 and 7024, 7031 and finally 0x80071a91 appear in varous dialog boxes. Event ID 1006: The Windows Search Service has failed to create the SystemIndex search index. I have Vista 32 Ultimate with SP1.Here are the rest of my system specs:XFX 780i motherboard--shipped with P02 bios, already updated to P04,which was just released, Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4ghz ,4GB G.SKILL 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM 800 PC2 6400,2 XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB PCIe 2.0--SLI'd ,Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer PCI,WD Raptor 74GB ,Seagate 250GB,D-Link DWL-AG530 32-bit PCI Wireless Adapter ,2 Pioneer 20X DVD?R DVD Burner Black IDE Model DVR-115DBK , Yes the bios recognizes all 4GB AND the "My Computer" UI "displays" 4GB.
I know, though, about the 3GB limit of a 32bit system(I hear people say that Vista 32 utilizes (NOT recognize, but UTILIZE) 4GB of RAM, but I have yet to see any evidence that supports that, so I will stick to the idea that 3GB is the limit) I know that the 3GB=System RAM+Video RAM. I install 1 Nvdia 8800GT 512mb video card. System RAM reads 2.5GB. 3GB of System RAM-the 512 of the video card=2.5GB. goody gumdrops. I insall the 2nd Nvidia 8800GT 512 video card and enable SLI.System RAM reads 1.5GB? Shouldn't it read 2.0GB?? 3GB of System RAM-512 for card 1-512 for card 2=2.0...not 1.5...??? Where did the missing 500mb go? AND IF Vista 32 is supposed to be able to utilize 4GB, then shouldn't my RAM read 3.5 before SLI and 3.0 after SLI??? I have built and rebuilt, installed and reinstalled and I still come up with the same thing no matter what I try.

Ever since I tried to install Service Pack 1 (which seemed to require driver updates before it could be installed), the sound on my laptop has refused to work. The volume control doesn't work and insists that there is no audio output device, whereas the Device Manager says that the Conexant HD Audio device is there, but that the drivers are not installed... but when I try to reinstall the drivers, it tells me that the installation has 'failed', but doesn't tell me why.

I have the following problem: My Control Panel keeps using the Classic View instead of the Control Panel Home view. I checked the tutorial about this subject: I tried the second way (Through the Registry: Through a Download), as i have Vista Home Premium, but when I right-click the Restore_Default_CP_View, it doesn't show Merge (actually, I'm not sure, because I don't have an enlish version...). The other way (The Manual Way) doesn't work either, because I don't have the file HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer. When I click Policies, it only shows one more folder, called system. The Explorer file doesn't seem to be there. I tried running as administrator, but that didn't work either.

I'm running Vista Home Premium 64 bit on a new HP pavilion laptop. I'm trying to log into my work system remotely. The error I'm getting is "This computer can't connect to the remote computer. Remote desktop cannot find the remote computer. Type the computer name or IP address again, and then try connecting" I've tried the help desk at work, they say they know there has been issues with people loggin in with Vista, but its been resolved. But they have not actually been able to help me log in. They are running Windows NT.

changed a defective vista.os computer..over to ubuntu or some other os..did it work and what happened..i keep thinking every day..how sweet it would be.to get away from..the thieves of microsoft..i can not afford a apple..right now..i installed unbuntu.on one of my computers.i was too dumb..to figure out how to work it..it just looked like things were missing and i could not see how to install my out side software..we need to get out..from under the thieves..just look at these post here.day in and day out..and the man just deserted the sinking ship..talk about titananics...

I just installed quake 4 and updated it to 1.4.2 too. but it just would not work. it sometimes just goes into the black screena and then an error comes back saying "This program stopped responding" and sometimes it doesnt even go to the black screen saying texture compression failed...

I bought Vista 32 bit quite a while ago and had it installed on my old PC. I then bought a new PC about a month ago that already had Vista 32 bit installed on it. I've just bought 4Gb of RAM for it and was hoping to upgrade to Vista 64 bit. I came across which seems perfect for me. The only thing is that since i my retail version of Vista 32 bit installed on my old PC, I'm guessing the product key will be tied to my old pc right? Should i phone up the Phone Activation thing and get a new key (and if so will my new key work for the Alternate Media exchange)?
