View 5 Replies View RelatedI shouldn't be surprised but here goes....I checked today for SP1 on windows update.. According to my computer no updates available however updates were last installed on 03/13/08 and yet when you look at installed updates it shows a windows defender update installed today. I have been reading several posts on this problem and have noticed that Carey Frisch posted a link to troubleshoot and now here is a problem and that is none of these apply to me... Once again Go figure!! Running Vista Business 32bit here in the good old USA and of course the English versionVista is and has always been updated right on schedule....
View 9 Replies View RelatedAs far as I can determine, this update (released 22Oct08) does not work, at least not with Windows Vista Home Premium. I had update 7 running, and got an update notification for Release 10 earlier today. Downloaded and installed the update, tried the Java test page, Firefox (both 3.0.3 and today's Minefield beta-test for Firefox 3.1) hung. Tried the update in IE7, that, too, hung.
Went to Control Panel, clicked on the Java icon, had some problems opening it; when it did finally open, I went into Advanced and found that Update 10 was not recognizing IE. Opened IE, redownloaded the off-line update, to see if that worked; answer is, no, it still did not recognize IE. Back to Java, found the off-line installed for Update 7, removed 10, reinstalled 7; Java works once again. In the midst of this aggravation, trying to figure out what the problem was, I did find one link to an article that said Update 10 had been delayed due to some unspecified problem. Seems to me that, at least for Vista Home Premium, there is still at least one unspecified problem with Update 10.
Today after installing Service Pack 2 for Vista, I noticed an icon in my Notification Area that wasn't there before. It was for SignaTelAudio. No matter where I checked I could NOT find a way to get rid of it. So, at that point I unchecked it in MSconfig so that the next time I rebooted hopefully it would be gone.
But before I rebooted I was checking on SignaTel in Control Panel trying to figure out what it was all about all of a sudden. In doing that I clicked on something and now I have NO sound and the Volume Control in the Notification Area has a red x in it. I have tried to reverse what I did but can't seem to find the option that was there before. I've tried a couple of things after searching the Internet but with no luck. In Device Manager, it states things are working. I know Windows Update did a system restore. Should I try to uninstall the Service Pack 2 or do a System Restore? I tried to play a song in Media Player and got nothing of course.
So I mananaged to get my Old HP PSC 500 to work on my HP Pavillion a6030n with VISTA gave up on the scanning part totally. Bought and installed a new I/O card to do this and tinkered for days! NOW, I realize I have NO SOUND searched all of the threads and experimented with various and sundry but to no avail. The speakers were old JBL PROs had been working changed them out for some old BOSTON speakers (also working on old Gateway) still getting the "No Audio Output Device Installed" and don't even get a "Sound and Video" portion in Device Manager!
Tried downloading Realtek AC97-Audio-Codec-driver-A397 as it was mentioned as a fix in another thread. No joy! Will installing another driver help this? I can't see why the card would be damaged as the previous install didn't go near it. I am not a total novice but small words would be helpful as my brainmatter is fried and not a lot of hair left on the head.
i have had no problems with my audio on my vista 32, until i recently put 4GB ram into my computer, switched it on and works fine, only problem was i lost my audio/realtec, i dont know why this happened, and i am unsure how to correct it and get it working again
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a problem (obviously). My laptop will not play sound. When I hover my cursor over the sound icon in the lower-left corner of the screen, a message pops up stating that 'No Audio Output Device is installed'. Does anyone know how to fix this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm getting the following message: 'Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device'...It appears that the High Definition Audio Controller is having a problem installing (The System cannot find the file specified). I have tried downloading the latest driver, but it still doesn't appear to install. Does anyone know of a way to solve this - I've tried a lot of different things, but I still get the message that there is 'No Audio Output Device is Installed'.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSince my recent automatic Windows update, my laptop no longer recognises an audio output device, claiming one is not installed. All troubleshooting guides just tell me to enable the device, which is impossible as it says it is not installed as opposed to simply disabled. I have never had this problem before, as my laptop has in built speakers. how to solve this so I can actually get sound?
View 4 Replies View Relatedso i just got internet to my computer after almost 2 years of it being out of commission, it still worked and we were able to play games like solitaire and the sims but there was no internet hooked up to it. it installed all kinds of updates and one night i was listening to music via wmp and the next day i went to listen and it said "no audio output device is installed"
i tried updating the device and it said that my driver was up to date.
i also tried uninstalling it and rebooting my computer and that didn't work.
i don't see any error messages in the device manager, i clicked the icon with the little magnifying glass and nothing showed up.
i don't know what else i can do, besides take my computer and throw it into traffic.
i have alot of music on this computer that i listen to on a daily basis and would hate to have to switch it all to a new computer, or even buy a new computer for that matter just because my speakers aren't working.
I had to use my restore disc for my windows vista. Since then I have no sound. Have red x on volume and it says no audio device installed.I have treid the uninstall and letting the computer install again, but that didnt work.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought a set of speakers for my laptop and in the process of trying to get them to work I seem to have somehow disabled my internal speaker. Now my computer keeps telling me that I have no audio output device installed. I'm not sure how to get things working again - either the newly purchased external speakers or the internal one which has worked just fine up until now.

View 4 Replies View RelatedUpgraded a client's Toshiba Vista Ultimate to SP1. Now the audio won't work. The Windows Audio Sevice is set to "Automatic" but when I try to start it, I get this error: Error 1075: The dependency service is not started or is marked for deletion.
All dependent services are running. And if I check the Event viewer, I also see: Event 7003. The Windows Audio Service depends the following service: MMCSS. This service might not be installed.
I don't know that service and don't see it listed in the MMC. I also see this problem in Google from some others. Is it a common problem? Right now client has no sound...just a red X over the volume icon down in the sys tray.
I have Vista Home Premium 64-bit and Windows 7 installed and use the standard Microsoft boot manager from Windows 7 to dual boot. Each operating system is in the first primary partition of a hard drive. No problems. However, I think I need reinstall WinXP so that I can view some old AVI files that use the Intel IV50 codec. For some reason Vista does not like the AVI files and best I can tell the codec add-in only works under WinXP Media Player. What is the best way/program that will allow me to boot either Vista, Windows 7 or Windows XP OR is there a magic bullet to view and convert the old AVI files. I have tried Format Factory and come up empty. No matter what I try the audio works but the video is not available.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was cleaning my computer and accidently uninstalled my realtek audio drive. I immediately re downloaded and installed it but now my sound doesnt work. My sound icon isnt X'd out or anything, I'm just not getting sound. I'm sorry if I'm not providing enough information, ummm... lets see if I can give more info... I think it might have something to do with the fact that I'm using an HD TV screen and my sound comes through that... but I dontknow how to fix it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEver since I tried to install Service Pack 1 (which seemed to require driver updates before it could be installed), the sound on my laptop has refused to work. The volume control doesn't work and insists that there is no audio output device, whereas the Device Manager says that the Conexant HD Audio device is there, but that the drivers are not installed... but when I try to reinstall the drivers, it tells me that the installation has 'failed', but doesn't tell me why.

View 8 Replies View RelatedPrior to formatting my computer my soundcard and its software worked perfectly however after i formatted, my creative audio console doesnt really work properly. For example. Before if i adjusted the master volume in the audio console, it would synronise and adjust the volume in the default windows sound mixer now it doesnt. Secondly before if i plugged in headphones the sound would autmatically go through the headphones and mute the speakers. Now if i open the console and go to the headphones section, I have mute speakers checked and automatically enable headphone settings checked and if i plug in my headphones, sound still comes out of speakers but if i press test in the audio console, the test lady voice comes through the headphones whilst other sounds still continues through the speakers. I have reinstalled the drivers twice now and updated the drivers.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been having update problems with my Vista Home Premium x64 the last few months. Basically what is happening is that there are multiple installs of the same updates, and then once in a while update will ask me to once again install said updates. This happens on and off, randomly it seems. Until the other day, when I downloaded some new updates. Now one continually wants me to update even though its been "successfully" installed according to the update manager. The update in question is KB937287 a prerequisite for SP1 it seems. Viewing update history indicates this update has been installed 3 times, and all are successful - but I've just checked again and once more its asking me to download and install this update.
The previous updates I had trouble with are:
windows live mail x 3
windows photo gallery x 3
windows live toolbar 3.01 x 3
windows live writer x 3
I was using remote desktop from my win2000 to my vista yesterday completely fine. however id been having some trouble with the vista machine and reinstalled vista. Today I allowed remote assistance on my vista machine and found i couldnt connect. I looked it up and realised that the remote desktop, usually under the remote assistance option, was gone. I had set vista to install the recommended updates only, but being vista, about 5 out of the 25 didnt install. Im guessing the remote desktop functionality is in one of these updates i have not installed, my question is: which one. Or is it not in the "recommended" updates, and if so, could you give me a clue which updates i should be installing to return remote desk... However if there is some kind of command that unlocks it or something, even better! This forum looks great, im sorry to start with a qustion though D;!!!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Windows and installed some updates. I hadn't updated in awhile so there were a few old updates with the new. Now I have these issues: My computer will come on but the mouse won't move. A keyboard appears on my screen (right under the box where I enter my password) I don't know if I have a bug or if the updates did this. What does it sound like to you? I'd like to do a system restore, but I'm not sure how to do that from safe mode.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS. I possibly want to upgrade to Windows 7 equivalent. Here's my dilemma: I installed Service Pack 1 via Windows website download manager, and after a fashion, it appeared to have installed and it rebooted my system. It clearly shows as having been installed according to Windows Update History. [Additionally, Service Pack 2 is not offered as a download, but the rest of my query, please.] HOWEVER, according to Microsoft, when I click START > right click COMPUTER, at the top of that resulting page and beneath my version of Vista it should show "Service Pack 1."
In my case, it does not! FURTHER, I downloaded and ran Windows 7 Update Advisor, the results show I need to download and install Service Pack 1. I'm aware that I can download. or order on CD, each of the Service Packs and install, starting with Service Pack 1 before attempting to install Service Pack 2. Why does Service Pack 1 show as installed in Windows Update History, but does NOT seem to be installed according to the two other instances/sources I've mentioned above?
