Looking for help with some email docs that I have received in vista format. They include labels & excel spreadsheets. Is it possible to convert them somehow to enable me to print them out from Windows 2003 or 2007? I asked the sender to save them as Windows 1997-2003 format & resend them but even then when I try to print those out the label setup is altered.
View 5 RepliesI had a problem printing documents - the 'spooler subsystem app' was not functioning properly. So I found this site: You cannot add a printer, and you receive printer spooler error messages, and didn't see the fact that this troubleshooting page was for XP only. So I followed the instructions, and basically ended up deleting nearly all registry files in safe mode except the default ones. When I realized I had messed up, I performed a system restore that I had created immediately before editing the registry files. After the system restore, Vista wouldn't boot. So I restarted and booted in safe mode, got confirmation that the system had been restored, and restarted once again in Vista. Now, I have some annoying problems:
-the start menu freezes. I can click the menu, but i can't click any icons on the start menu itself. -Windows Live OneCare won't start -System restore will not boot. when I start it in the start menu (before start menu freezes), I see in task manager that rstrui.exe (the System restore file) is running as a process, but no application appears. How can i restore my computer?
I am a Windows XP user who has just purchased a laptop that has windows vista on it. I also use gmail as my main e-mail address with outlook express. What I would like to do, is take everything I have on XP's Outlook Express (I mean, Address Book, Account Settings, RULES, and message) and get them on Windows Mail so they are still functioning. I have been able to bring my messages and folders over, however now my Windows Mail is downloding all 3,500 e-mails that my Gmail account has left on it, and it is not sorting them in the least. Rather than go through and make more rules, is there a way I could import my rules to the new Windows Mail? Also, it is not greatly important that I have my contacts saved, as I have an e-mail from everyone of them and I can re-add them if possible, but I had nearly 40 rules that I really don't want to have to try to re-add. (Not to mention I haven't yet been able to add a single rule, as the Create rule from message button is greyed out.

I am running Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium. My songs,organised on my external hard drive (MusicArtistAlbumsong). Most of them have been converted, by itunes, from wma to aac or m4a etc. I would like to convert every song on my hard drive, to the same quality, but to mp3. I want to be able to select a folder and it will convert all of the contents to mp3. I would also like it to stay organised in the way that it origianlly was.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba X505-Q830 and it came with Windows 7-64 bit, I play Counter-Strike competitively and the mouse acceleration could not be removed which completely ruined my ability to play the game. So I popped in my copy of Windows Vista-64 bit and formatted and installed. Now my laptop is without the proper drivers for the internet and I have searched high and low for them but nothing is working.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just added two new 1TB My Book external USB 2.0 hard drives to my system. They come formatted and partitioned, but it is formatted FAT32, all of my other drivers are NTFS and so I went in to the Windows Vista disk management tool (sorry I don't remember what it is actually called but it allows you to see all of your drives, partitions, etc.) to do a quick format to NTFS. However, it seems to be taking hours to do this.
I am guessing and this is my question. Am I right in assuming that the reason this is not a quick format is because it is having to do a full format in order to convert the drive from FAT32 to NTFS? How long should it take to format a 1TB drive?
I have decided to leave the forums because I will no longer be using Windows Vista. My MEDION laptop is going to be re-formatted, re-partitioned and under control of Windows XP. I already have an idea of how its done but would like to know everyones reccomendations. NOTE: For no reason will I keep Windows Vista, so please do not sway my determination to use Windows XP! I will however, want to keep the Windows Vista recovery drive in case Windows XP doesn't work, because I have a recovery disk for the recovery drive partition.

View 6 Replies View RelatedRecently this unit is not recognising pre-recorded or formatted discs which it previously had recognised. I have a HP laptrop and the drive is a matshita DVD-RAM UJ-850S ATA. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the driver with no success. In one of the forums it is suggested that the 'UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" in the HKEY registry be deleted but I am not sure about doing this without someone in the know gives it their OK.
View 5 Replies View RelatedBrand new PC with an OEM copy of windows vista basic purchased with PC. MBO is an Intel? D945GCL, 1 GB ram, 40 GB SATA hard drive (new, no partitions set, unformatted) No modem at this point . . .I insert the DVD ROM into my drive and get the installing files screen (squares filling along bottom of screen) That seems to go well. then I get a Microsoft logo along the bottom of the screen with dots moving along the bottom. After a few minutes the screen goes completely dark, and I see nothing, after a few seconds the DVD ROM drive (which has slowed after loading the files) stops completely. Then the computer sits there doing nothing. The monitor is still on (not in standby) but nothing else is happening.
On the off chance the HD has a problem I put another 40GB sata drive in that was blank, but partitioned and formatted on another system.Exact same symptoms. keyboard seems normal the Num Lock LED turns on and off so the system isn't locked solid
I have an eSATA drive formatted NTFS from my XP installation. Drive works fine from either XP or Linux (multi-boot machine) I had previously tried Vista on the machine but it saw the eSATA drive as unformatted. Gave the message "Do you want to format this drive?"
Very dangerous as an unknowing person may have actually formatted the drive and lost all their data. Interestingly enough, any time I've tried to access the drive, Vista ran a chkdsk on it at the next boot up. CHKDSK from Vista saw it fine and reported no errors. but could not read the drive once booted to the desktop. I eventually gave up on Vista and just did a Win7 install yesterday.
I've noticed some files on my hard drive and the Windows folder is reported as being created in 2006.Since 2006 I have formatted my hard drive 3 times using the Vista setup.I know for a fact that the last time I formatted and reinstalled was January 2009. Can someone explain why these files and the Windows folder shows an earlier date?? When selecting the Format command during setup does Windows actually remove everything form the hard drive? I have noticed that the format doesn't take very long, at least not half as long as it used to with earlier versions of Windows. If Windows doesn't actually remove everything form one's hard drive
View 5 Replies View RelatedI looked but couldn't find this issue elsewhere. I noticed that when I opened my files, there were extra MY DOCUMENTS folders. Other people who used this computer apparently messed around and copied MY DOCUMENTS folders. I tried to remedy the mess, but did so when I was tired, and seem to have made matters worse. Now, when I go to the Start Menu> Documents the documents are not there. I am at a loss as to how to fix this.

how to resolve or further debug. I've got a Thinkpad Laptop running Vista x64 Ultimate. I reinstalled the OS ~3 weeks ago and installed my print drivers. I have 2 network printers and I also use doPDF to create PDFs. All of these were working
just fine.
Today they are not printing correctly, but not in a way I can figure out. Applications give me an error saying there is an unknown error or that there is no default printer installed. This happens in Firefox, OpenOffice, Acrobat, Thunderbird and others.
The weird thing is that if I goto control panel and try to print a test page with any of the printers it works fine. In addition, I can print txt files from both Notepad & Wordpad, but still not from Openoffice. So why is it I can print simple txt files & test pages but not from the apps I need to print from. BTW this happens for all the printers I have installed including the 2 network printers, the local PDf printer (doPDF), & the XPS printer. These all worked last time I printed (a few days ago), but not today. What can I do to ideally fix this or at least better debg this?
My KX-P1123 does not print in response to the "Print" command from Vista Home Basic. It worked well when connected to Win98. I don't think theprinter is at fault because it does print in response to inputs from itsControl Table.
I am using the correct printer cable ."USB to Centronix 36parallel printer. Vista's Control Panel/Printers shows the KX-P1123 is installed. The Panasonic website tells me that the printer's driver (*1INBOX) is installed and no other drivers are needed.
Following the instructions that came with the cable, I made the KX-P1123 the default printer, right-clicked it and selected "Properties". Then clicked "Ports" and selected "USB001:Virtual PrinterPort for USB". Clicking "Print Test Page" changes printer status from "Ready" to "Error".
If I connect my Epson inkjet to the PC, it works well, so the PC does not seem to be the problem.I evidently did something wrong, or left something undone.
I've tried everything conceivable to get a decent print-out of a 4-page tif file I have, to no avail. I have Vista Home Premium. When I try to print from Windows Photo Gallery, it turns my tif into landscape orientation and then prints only the middle part and the output is distorted.

i run a wirless net work with 2 XP computers and 1 vista computers I can see every one on my network map on my vista computer but not in the network section. My printer is slaved off of my desktop XP and my XP laptop can print to it. However I can't get my Vista lap top to access the hard drive of either computer or the printer. I have install the patch on both xp computers and the printer is vista compatable. network discovery is turned on on my vista computer.

Do you want to open this folder?, Yes or No". When clicking ?Yes? you are taken to a folder named ?Virtualized?, which contains no files. Also the PDF printer dialog box shows "Error - Printing" and the PDF printer refuses to print. PDF files can be saved from other programs with no problems. View 7 Replies View RelatedThe shared printer is connected to LPT of a Vista computer. We used to have an XP computer that could print to this printer. We changed the XP comp for a Vista notebook. This notebook has the same user/password as the Vista machine where the printer is connected to. Hence, this user can print from the notebook.
Now the strange part: another user on this notebook can't. It is sent to the printer spooler, sits there for a few minutes ('printing...') and then there's an error message (just 'cannot print' or something like that). We set this account to administrator type, during install we put in and stored the account name and password of the account that can print (so the one that is the same on both computers) but to no avail. We followed this instruction from an earlier post [1]:.......
When I click to print I get the usual "Printing to HP 4100 Series" then nothing.
