HD Blank Paritioned And Formatted Another System

Brand new PC with an OEM copy of windows vista basic purchased with PC. MBO is an Intel? D945GCL, 1 GB ram, 40 GB SATA hard drive (new, no partitions set, unformatted) No modem at this point . . .I insert the DVD ROM into my drive and get the installing files screen (squares filling along bottom of screen) That seems to go well. then I get a Microsoft logo along the bottom of the screen with dots moving along the bottom. After a few minutes the screen goes completely dark, and I see nothing, after a few seconds the DVD ROM drive (which has slowed after loading the files) stops completely. Then the computer sits there doing nothing. The monitor is still on (not in standby) but nothing else is happening.
On the off chance the HD has a problem I put another 40GB sata drive in that was blank, but partitioned and formatted on another system.Exact same symptoms. keyboard seems normal the Num Lock LED turns on and off so the system isn't locked solid

if this has been asked and previously solved before (didn't find it in this thread though). I installed System Shock 2 on my computer (vista home premium 32bit), and it will load fine. My problem is that once you get out of the menu and go to start a new game or click on intro the screen just goes blank and stays blank (a black screen basically). Does anyone have any idea as to what could be wrong and perhaps how to fix this?

i have a Windows Vista Basic laptop, i've had it for a year now and no problems but a few days ago it was working all good until i shut it down. properly. and then when i turned it on it only comes in a blank black screen only saying Operating system not found.

When I boot up my PC it goes all the way to the loading screen (the progress bar) and then monitor goes blank and system reboots. I choose to start in safe mode (from the selection), it starts all good. Then I restart the PC and it boots well without any problems. However, next time I shut down, I have to go through the whole process again. Sometimes I see "dumping physical memory" with a blue screen, sometimes I don't. I THINK it has something to do with my video drivers, but I updated to the latest catalyst drivers and still same thing.

Vista installed fine and everything works fine until, a piece of software asked to restart. Now I have to hope that is boots. Because when it the boot process reaches the microsoft corporation and finishes, the system gives a blank screen and hangs. If I wait long enough, 15+ minutes, it finally boots with the vista logo on the second screen and logon password on the first screen. This is a new pc, just built, I should not have this problem. The pc has an integrated nvidia 9400 with 9800gt. Can it be a grahics card problem? I used the cd to install the drivers that came with the 9800gt.

i bought an acer notebook then i formatted it but i didnt have recovery cd so i downloaded all drivers. then i used it 1 month the cd i used for format was copy but i had product key on my notebook. now when i open my notebook it wants product key and when i write mine it doesnt accept. what can i do?

I have a Toshiba X505-Q830 and it came with Windows 7-64 bit, I play Counter-Strike competitively and the mouse acceleration could not be removed which completely ruined my ability to play the game. So I popped in my copy of Windows Vista-64 bit and formatted and installed. Now my laptop is without the proper drivers for the internet and I have searched high and low for them but nothing is working.

I just added two new 1TB My Book external USB 2.0 hard drives to my system. They come formatted and partitioned, but it is formatted FAT32, all of my other drivers are NTFS and so I went in to the Windows Vista disk management tool (sorry I don't remember what it is actually called but it allows you to see all of your drives, partitions, etc.) to do a quick format to NTFS. However, it seems to be taking hours to do this.
I am guessing and this is my question. Am I right in assuming that the reason this is not a quick format is because it is having to do a full format in order to convert the drive from FAT32 to NTFS? How long should it take to format a 1TB drive?

I have decided to leave the forums because I will no longer be using Windows Vista. My MEDION laptop is going to be re-formatted, re-partitioned and under control of Windows XP. I already have an idea of how its done but would like to know everyones reccomendations. NOTE: For no reason will I keep Windows Vista, so please do not sway my determination to use Windows XP! I will however, want to keep the Windows Vista recovery drive in case Windows XP doesn't work, because I have a recovery disk for the recovery drive partition.

Looking for help with some email docs that I have received in vista format. They include labels & excel spreadsheets. Is it possible to convert them somehow to enable me to print them out from Windows 2003 or 2007? I asked the sender to save them as Windows 1997-2003 format & resend them but even then when I try to print those out the label setup is altered.

I have just recently uninstalled windows 7 on my gateway MD series laptop I was dual booting with vista usually when i started up it would get a screen that asked me which OS i wanted to startup...then i deleted windows 7 via disk manager i formatted the drive now when i start up i still get the thing asking me which OS to startup even after it is already deleted it is a very annoying problem

Recently this unit is not recognising pre-recorded or formatted discs which it previously had recognised. I have a HP laptrop and the drive is a matshita DVD-RAM UJ-850S ATA. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the driver with no success. In one of the forums it is suggested that the 'UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" in the HKEY registry be deleted but I am not sure about doing this without someone in the know gives it their OK.

I have an eSATA drive formatted NTFS from my XP installation. Drive works fine from either XP or Linux (multi-boot machine) I had previously tried Vista on the machine but it saw the eSATA drive as unformatted. Gave the message "Do you want to format this drive?"
Very dangerous as an unknowing person may have actually formatted the drive and lost all their data. Interestingly enough, any time I've tried to access the drive, Vista ran a chkdsk on it at the next boot up. CHKDSK from Vista saw it fine and reported no errors. but could not read the drive once booted to the desktop. I eventually gave up on Vista and just did a Win7 install yesterday.

I've noticed some files on my hard drive and the Windows folder is reported as being created in 2006.Since 2006 I have formatted my hard drive 3 times using the Vista setup.I know for a fact that the last time I formatted and reinstalled was January 2009. Can someone explain why these files and the Windows folder shows an earlier date?? When selecting the Format command during setup does Windows actually remove everything form the hard drive? I have noticed that the format doesn't take very long, at least not half as long as it used to with earlier versions of Windows. If Windows doesn't actually remove everything form one's hard drive

im unable to burn music from my laptop, i have vista basic and until now ive had no problems. I insert a blank cd and it auto loads, then it asks to format before continueing, i click yes, it formats then right at the end it says unable to finish formatting and opens the cd. I then try to burn onto it and the cd stays blank.

I've been trying to burn an audio CD on my computer (i've only had this computer for a few months and this is the first time I've tried burning any kind of disc), and when I put the CD in and hit burn it says that my cd is not blank, I tried a handful of blank cds and it spit them all back out at me saying it's not blank. Just to make sure, I opened my computer and looked at the disc there and it WAS blank, so I don't know what to do.

This is my second monitor,that has done this,i have just had it replaced under warranty,its better but the problem is still there,when i use a HDMI to DVI cable the screen keeps going blank,and when i use VGA cable the screen stays on but is fuzzy.
I have a quad boot system with xp,vista32 and vista 64,all with different drivers for my 2 gtx260's,one of them has no display driver and it is still fuzzy.
I've tried two monitors,3 cables,many graphix drivers,and swapping my gtx260's around but no go.
The only thing i can think of is maybe interferance,but i've owned this system for two years and this is a fairly new problem.

I need help. When I insert any non blank homemade cd Vista can't read it and wants to format it. Happens with Autoplay or when I use Windows explorer. Does not matter what is on the cd: music, pictures, data files, etc. The cds work fine in any other pc. If I insert a store bought or commercial made cd, no problems. Only have a problem with homemade ones. The drive is a Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-850s.
I've done the following:
1. Uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it.
2. Added "NoCDBurning" to the registry (possible fix found on other forums)

I would like to start doing video, on my computer, and I know nothing about it.Right now, what I am trying is to copy an old (8mm film - no sound) home movie that is on a DVD -- to my hard drive -- then burn it onto a blank DVD so that I can have a 2nd copy. I am asking for step by step help as to how to do this. What I've tried on my own hasn't worked. I have a vista laptop about 6 months old, 2GB ram, Duo core.

Prior to SP1, the RAM usage was always at about 90-95% and the CPU usage seemed to be quite a lot. After SP1, RAM usage seems to be down to about 70% and the CPU usage is a lot less. Before SP1, IE used to take a while to load a new blank tab, and to exit with a number of tabs open. After SP1, new blank tabs load almost instantaneously, and exiting seems to be very much more snappy. Office applications also seem to load much more quickly. The C: drive prior to SP1 had 19.1 GB free out of 37 - after SP1 it now has 22.1 GB free.

i have always got mail fine and just a couple days ago I started getting email with the body of the letter being blank. So i sent myself emails from another email account i setup and sure enough the title of the email shows up, but the body of the letter is always blank.

I can connect my laptop to my computer and get sound and video with absolutely no problem. Where I run into my issue: When it's connected, the TV turn into the monitor and my laptop goes blank. (I believe I selected this option not knowing what the outcome would be when my windows vista laptop was connected to the TV for the very first time). I absolutely dislike that I have to work all my functions through my TV and would like my laptop monitor to display a screen at the same time. Is that possible to undo what I caused?

I had 2.5GB of RAM in HP laptop. OS - vista home premium service pack2.
The system works fine.
I upgraded to 4GB RAM(2*2GB). when upgraded to 4GB in bios able to see as ~3.33GB of RAM. I am able to see microsoft progress bar also, but after that the screen is blank and able to hear windows logon sound but no display. The screen is black.
When installed only the new 2GB of RAM the system work fine. So no problem with the new 2GB also. But with 4GB the screen is blank. I have nvidia GeForce 7400 graphics card. Is there any configuration need to be done in vista before installing 4GB of RAM?

Vista Home Premium. I have no third-party CD/DVD recording software on the machine. Every time I go to burn files to a CDR, CDRW, DVD R or DVDRW using the Windows burning function it wants to format the disk. If I cancel the format, then the burn is not proceeded with. XP does not do this. How do I stop this infuriating behaviour?
