I have just recently uninstalled windows 7 on my gateway MD series laptop I was dual booting with vista usually when i started up it would get a screen that asked me which OS i wanted to startup...then i deleted windows 7 via disk manager i formatted the drive now when i start up i still get the thing asking me which OS to startup even after it is already deleted it is a very annoying problem
View 6 RepliesI have an eSATA drive formatted NTFS from my XP installation. Drive works fine from either XP or Linux (multi-boot machine) I had previously tried Vista on the machine but it saw the eSATA drive as unformatted. Gave the message "Do you want to format this drive?"
Very dangerous as an unknowing person may have actually formatted the drive and lost all their data. Interestingly enough, any time I've tried to access the drive, Vista ran a chkdsk on it at the next boot up. CHKDSK from Vista saw it fine and reported no errors. but could not read the drive once booted to the desktop. I eventually gave up on Vista and just did a Win7 install yesterday.
I've noticed some files on my hard drive and the Windows folder is reported as being created in 2006.Since 2006 I have formatted my hard drive 3 times using the Vista setup.I know for a fact that the last time I formatted and reinstalled was January 2009. Can someone explain why these files and the Windows folder shows an earlier date?? When selecting the Format command during setup does Windows actually remove everything form the hard drive? I have noticed that the format doesn't take very long, at least not half as long as it used to with earlier versions of Windows. If Windows doesn't actually remove everything form one's hard drive

My MEDION laptop is going to be re-formatted, re-partitioned and under control of Windows XP. I already have an idea of how its done but would like to know everyones reccomendations. NOTE: For no reason will I keep Windows Vista, so please do not sway my determination to use Windows XP! I will however, want to keep the Windows Vista recovery drive in case Windows XP doesn't work, because I have a recovery disk for the recovery drive partition.

So I popped in my copy of Windows Vista-64 bit and formatted and installed. Now my laptop is without the proper drivers for the internet and I have searched high and low for them but nothing is working.

They come formatted and partitioned, but it is formatted FAT32, all of my other drivers are NTFS and so I went in to the Windows Vista disk management tool (sorry I don't remember what it is actually called but it allows you to see all of your drives, partitions, etc.) to do a quick format to NTFS. However, it seems to be taking hours to do this.
I am guessing and this is my question. Am I right in assuming that the reason this is not a quick format is because it is having to do a full format in order to convert the drive from FAT32 to NTFS? How long should it take to format a 1TB drive?
Looking for help with some email docs that I have received in vista format. They include labels & excel spreadsheets. Is it possible to convert them somehow to enable me to print them out from Windows 2003 or 2007? I asked the sender to save them as Windows 1997-2003 format & resend them but even then when I try to print those out the label setup is altered.

I have a HP laptrop and the drive is a matshita DVD-RAM UJ-850S ATA. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the driver with no success. In one of the forums it is suggested that the 'UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" in the HKEY registry be deleted but I am not sure about doing this without someone in the know gives it their OK.
View 5 Replies View RelatedBrand new PC with an OEM copy of windows vista basic purchased with PC. MBO is an Intel? D945GCL, 1 GB ram, 40 GB SATA hard drive (new, no partitions set, unformatted) No modem at this point . . .I insert the DVD ROM into my drive and get the installing files screen (squares filling along bottom of screen) That seems to go well. then I get a Microsoft logo along the bottom of the screen with dots moving along the bottom. After a few minutes the screen goes completely dark, and I see nothing, after a few seconds the DVD ROM drive (which has slowed after loading the files) stops completely. Then the computer sits there doing nothing. The monitor is still on (not in standby) but nothing else is happening.
On the off chance the HD has a problem I put another 40GB sata drive in that was blank, but partitioned and formatted on another system.Exact same symptoms. keyboard seems normal the Num Lock LED turns on and off so the system isn't locked solid
can you tell me a way to uninstall Call of Duty other than through putting in the disk and pressing UNINSTALL or in the 'All Programs'? Because it just won't uninstall there: I press install and the window simply closes and nothing else. I am asking this because I have found some patches on the Activision website (now I can get on it again) and I wan't to reinstall it...

I was having problems installing a program (Berlitz German Premier) where the install would just disappear halfway thru the process. A program would not appear under my programs list but when I went to Uninstall an icon for uninstall of the Berlitz software appears for each time I tried to install it. However I get the following error messages (see attached document with screen captures) when I tried to delete it the traditional way.
When I use Windows Install Clean Up utility, the program is nowhere to be found on the list; thus I can't use that program.
Somehow the 'uninstall' button disappeared for most programs on my Vista Home Premium box when I used Control Pannel -> Programs -> Uninstall a Program. A few programs still have 'uninstall' button available - those have 'installed on' showing. The rest (80+% of all)don't have 'installed on' values showing and don't have 'uninstall' button.

On the SATA 2 HD opensuse linux 11.1 is installed. When I booted for the first time the Asus M3N-HT Deluxe Series the Windows Vista Home Premium ran well, and I did not have any problems reactivating the operating system. I did had problems with opensuse linux 11.1, but after reinstalling it again on the second HD drive it also works well. I bought a Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit Installation DVD, but I cannot install it. How can I uninstall Windows Vista Premium 32-bit so that the new 64-bit version will install properly on the SATA 1 HD?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been working on a users computer for a about a week now and have read about 100 posts on google. I am having trouble uninstalling Service Pack 2 from her Vista X64 machine. I want uninstall the service pack because it has created havoc for her computer. It constantly keeps rebooting at random times and shows a blue screen beginning to dump physical memory. Then when Windows boots back up it says it has recovered from a serious error. On average the computer reboots at least 4 or 5 times a day. I have tried to remove it from the control panel and it says "uninstall was not completed successfully." Her system restore date does not go back far enough, so I can not restore her PC before the SP2 was installed. Have tried all the steps from the following post: How to uninstall Windows Vista service packs as a troubleshooting step. The command line option just sits there for about 5 minutes and then returns to the C: prompt, it never asks me to reboot the system. Another technician installed the SP and he did not save the restore files. I have tried to download the SP 2 and place the file in C: emp and uninstall through the command line but this also does not work. I am stuck and need help uninstalling service pack 2. The user also just purchased an HP printer office jet 6500 and have read online that HP printers have not had much success with Vista x64 systems. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If possible, I do not want to reload the PC and I only have remote access to the computer.

View 9 Replies View RelatedOut of sheer stupidity and over-excitement upon installing my new Vista Ultimate back in June last year, when I starting installing the widows Updates, I chose several non-essential updates ... most of which were language packs. I now have Dutch, Finnish, Hebrew, Hungarian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian,Slovenian, Swedish, and Thai....all of which I now need to get rid of. I'm experiencing some system errors that suggest they're related to one or more of these language packs. Regardless, I don't need them and want to eliminate them. HOWEVER, when I attempt to remove them through the lpksetup.exe process (or same with Control Panel>>Regional and Language Options>>keyboards__ and Languages >>Install/Uninstall languages ), it goes through the process (creating restore point, removing language
packs, etc.) and after several minutes, gives me a window which states, "All selected language files failed to be removed". Then, it shows a list with all of the languages I selected which is titled "Failed removals:".
I have windows vista and it is not compaitble with most of the games I like to play. I went to compatabilty wizard and went through the process but I am still unable to open the game. I get a response that says "ths application can be launched with a relase version of Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/NT 4.0/2000/XP/Server 2003" I have Windows 98 that I would like to install so I can play this game. When trying to install Windows 98 it states that it is not compatible with Vista. Can I uninstall Vista to install Windows 98?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have searched high and low for an easy way to revert back to XP from a Vista Premium OEM install. Of course the error message comes up after reboot "Unable To Load OS". I have tried even to dual boot with no success. I have used the following programs to revert back to XP:
-Vista Boot Pro
-EasyBCD
-Paragon Partition Manager Professional
-Acronis Disk Director Suite
Paragon worked but I was unable to dual boot and it left Vista intact on the partition. I deleted the Vista partition after a good XP install and when I rebooted I was faced with the "Unable To Load OS" error message. Does anyone have an EASY solution for this problem? As in a complete hard drive erase to clear the boot files?
I have tried going into Programs and Features and It show it but gives on option to uninstall.

View 9 Replies View Relatedi just bought My Book Essential 1 TB today... and when i got home i plug it and it works just fine but its bothering me that the HDD type is FAT32 .. so i format it and try to change it to NTFS.. but somethings happen and boom the electric in my apartment was down... and so when the electric back i want to format it again but i can't... there drive is detected but with no space detail... it says "Windows can't format Drive H: - Check to see that the disk and drive are connected properly, make sure that the disk is not read-only, and then try again.
For more information, search Help for read-only files and how to change them" when i open the Disk Management from (My COmputer > Manage) it seems it's already a volume.. but the weird thing there is no space detail.. and i cant erase the volume ... i've tried using diskpart but i can't do nothing because there is no volume and i can't erase the disk... no luck with fsutil cause its not ntfs... I havent tried 3rd party software and i havent tried it on other computer (don't have other computer right now) and WDC didnt give live cd for formatting because all of them was in the drive... though i already redownload it but the program is useless..
I have tried Uninstalling it via add/remove programs. It says it was completely removed. I then tried to install Trend Micro, however when that runs we get an error message that says "a fatal windows error has occured please restart your computer and try again"
Then from searching thru this forum I found out about the Norton Removal tool. We downloaded and ran that and it found other things to remove. Once it was completed we tried to install Trend Micro again but still get the same error message. At this time we are running a full system restore to bring the Laptop back to out of the box condition. Has anyone had this happen before, and are there any steps I am missing?
I understand that Vista SP2 RC update has to be uninstalled before installing SP2 RTM update(when bcomes available). Does 5the Windows Update automatically uninstall SP2 RC update or does it has to be done manually?

I would like to tranfer my entire drive incuding all files and the Operating system From my current IDE HDD to a new SATA Drive of the sames size (500 Gig) I need the IDE Drive for an older computer ( The 40 Gig IBM Deathstar still functions great, but all programs seem more bloated these Days)
Anyway I went to Administrative Tools and Formated the New Drive NFTS with no Drive Letter. But I cannot get it recognized as a transfer device when I go to system backup. Can I use 'C' on the second and soon to be only drive? If I have to use E or F for now can I change it back later. would that affect the file system? I intend to Low level Format the IDE and try cloning the old machine's XP Drive (32 bit) to it in the second place.

It's my new Sony ebook reader. It works fine on my old XP pc but not my Vista Home Premium laptop. I don't know how reformatting an actual reader would affect the device since every one at the Sony forum has only reformat their memory from the actual reader that has a reformat memory, you lose your books but all the Sony applications that runs the reader are still intact. Since I got this error, I've reformatted via the actual reader and still every time I plug my reader in my USB port, I get this error. I'm scared if I say yes that all the applications that makes the reader works will be wiped out. Here is the thread in the Sony Reader Forum of them trying to help me.
