Drive Letter & User Temporary Suggestions Only

Dec 16, 2008

Like with most other settings in Vista 64 Bit, ...Windows starts loosing it mind/(memory). Windows takes the meaning of "settings" to mean, "user temporary suggestions only". I'm sure somewhere in the fine print of "The Window's Handbook" it somewhat clearly states: Window's settings are subject to change at "any" given moment, time or place . (Period) Settings will change clearly at whim of... well,...just about "most any" given reason or causation, usually when you least expect it, and surly to extract the most pain & suffering.

I just went though a series of reboots working "other" problems,...when my external hard drives or "Mass Storage Units" along with all my flash "thumb" drives... got scrambled. I mean I'm down to L, M, and/or N clearly on how Vista shuffles them. Based on weather or not my printer is turned on or not. When you have certain programs writing to fixed drive letters ...

Changed From 32bit To The 64bit OS, Advisable To Delette The 32bit Folder

Mar 24, 2009

Ive just changed from 32bit to the 64bit OS, and I have noticed that I have 2 Program Folders one has x86 next to it. I take it that this is for 32bit programs and the other for 64bit applications. The question I have is most of the programs are in both folders which means taken up valuable harddrive space, is it advisable to delette the 32bit folder.

Converting Or Importing

Mar 23, 2008

I am a Windows XP user who has just purchased a laptop that has windows vista on it. I also use gmail as my main e-mail address with outlook express. What I would like to do, is take everything I have on XP's Outlook Express (I mean, Address Book, Account Settings, RULES, and message) and get them on Windows Mail so they are still functioning. I have been able to bring my messages and folders over, however now my Windows Mail is downloding all 3,500 e-mails that my Gmail account has left on it, and it is not sorting them in the least. Rather than go through and make more rules, is there a way I could import my rules to the new Windows Mail? Also, it is not greatly important that I have my contacts saved, as I have an e-mail from everyone of them and I can re-add them if possible, but I had nearly 40 rules that I really don't want to have to try to re-add. (Not to mention I haven't yet been able to add a single rule, as the Create rule from message button is greyed out.

How To Enjoy Converting DVD Into Any Format You Like With 50% Off

Apr 7, 2009

I often said that there is no such an application that can be defined as all-in-one, or one-step to satisfy all your needs. Take DVD ripper for example, there are DVD ripping software that prevent you from importing DVD videos with CSS or CPPM protection for to fight against copy piracy. This is right, but causes some trouble for users who want to convert DVD videos to AVI, MPEG, and WMV etc. There are always alternatives to help ourselves out.

Actually, Many American legal experts believe that under United States' Federal law, making a backup copy of a DVD-Video is legal under fair use protection meaning backup copies made with software such as DVD Decrypter are in fact legal but that distribution of the software used to make them is illegal. So today, I would like to tell you how to deal with DVD with protection legally.............

Converting/printing Formatted Documents

Looking for help with some email docs that I have received in vista format. They include labels & excel spreadsheets. Is it possible to convert them somehow to enable me to print them out from Windows 2003 or 2007? I asked the sender to save them as Windows 1997-2003 format & resend them but even then when I try to print those out the label setup is altered.

Windows Suggestions: CTRL+C Could Be Mapped, By The User, To A Universal Command Called "Copy."

Jul 29, 2009

I have a suggestion for Windows. It would be nice if there was a concept of "universal" keyboard commands. For example, CTRL+C could be mapped, by the user, to a universal command called "Copy." As it is now, most applications use CTRL+C as copy, but there is no real uniformity to this. Some users prefer to use CTRL+INSERT for copy, and this is less commonly supported.

Applications would have the choice of directly handling either the CTRL+C messages (as they do now) or handling the "universal" message that the "Copy" key was pressed. This would allow the most flexibility, so that existing apps would continue to work normally, but new apps would have the option of switching to the more generic approach. Only the most common commands need representation as "universal" commands. Things like cut, copy, paste, undo, redo, select-all, select- none, etc... And media commands like play, pause, stop, record would be nice, too. Interestingly, "record" could apply to recording audio or video, as well as something like recording a macro in a text editor or spreadsheet.......

Should Get 64bit Or 32bit?

Jul 19, 2008

I'm not sure which will run better on my system. I hear 64bit supposedly runs programs faster then 32bit does. i'm planning on getting vista ultimate. Also I play a lot of video games, i'm not sure if that would conflict with anything, and I also use a lot of programs (not specifically at once), though i heard 64bit can emulate 32bit only programs.

Max Amount Of RAM For 32bit, Recognize?

Jul 7, 2009

what is the max amount of RAM that Vista 32 bit will recognize? I ask this because I have 3 gigs of RAM currently on my 32 bit computer and I want to go buy some more. I found a good stick for under 20 dollars that I don't mind spending on. If I make my RAM go from 3 gigs to 4 gigs, will it recognize the extra gig? I heard that it will not recognize 4 gigs but I also heard that it won't recognize anything more than 4 gigs.

Acer 5920 Comes With 32bit...

Sep 28, 2007

Got myself the Acer 5920 with the intel dual core processors. Every site says its 64 bit but still they installed the 32 version. For example, 3D Studio Max has 2 versions; 32 and 64 bit. The installer recognizes the 32 bit vista so it WONT install the 64 bit, but it does install the 32 bit version. Loading up the 32 bit version: it doesnt, error. Wrong processor.

So now I want to install the 64 bit vista. I got a dvd with it but whenever I run setup.exe or the autorun, it gives an error saying wrong os or summit (can look the exact error up when I'm home again) The question I already thin I know the awnser on: My pc can run vista 64 bit, right? Anyone else has issue's with 32/64 bit versions of software not running?

Or a solution how to install that 64 bit version? Booting didnt work, it doesnt see it as a bootable disc (I pressed F12, and when the pc boots it first checks the cd for a bootable disc) Im getting a new vista 64 dvd btw since the version I got was from a friend if ye kno wha I mean :P (wanted to test it before buying it, honnestly).....

Using 32bit And Want To Add 64bit Version

Jan 19, 2008

I am currently using a vista ultimate 32bit machine for Photoshop drawings. As these images can become very large (up to 4gb in size) I am using my second drive as a scratch disk which slows thing down. My system has 4 gb ram but 32 bit only sees 3gb and I would like to utilize the extra gig and maybe add a further 2 or 4 gigs in the future - hence the upgrade to vista 64bit. Before I do, I have a few issues/queries.

1. I will buy a new hard drive to install the 64bit OS as a clean install and leave my 32bit OS on it's original disk incase it all goes horribly wrong. As I will now have three hard drives installed will this affect the installation of vista 64 bit? Will it interfere with the 32 bit versions boot sector?.... as I may need to swap back

2. I've read that vista 64bit has problems installing with 4gb ram installed. Is this true? Seems really odd if this is the case...............

Bought 64bit Instead Of 32bit

May 20, 2008

I recently purchased an OEM version of Vista Home Premium 64bit. Stupid mistake, as my machine (AMD Athlon64 5600+X2 Dual Core, 4gb ram) can only run 32bit. Since I was already running a "lite version" of the 32bit software in my pc, I decided to enter the license key and activate the program. I have downloaded all updates available through WU, but so far no SP1. I checked the forum and followed some instructions about updating drivers etc in order to finally get SP1 through WU, but have had no success so far. Since my "lite version" is missing some components, I was wondering if there is anyway I can get the correct 32bit version from Microsoft, after all my license key should be go for both 64bit and 32bit.

Licensing 32bit And 64bit?

I have a 64bit ultimate DVD that I've used on my current desktop system - but was wondering if the key from the 32bit install is 64bit compliant? Or if I just got charged from Dell the extra cash for an OS I will never use if I buy my own 64bit vista OS? Anyone know if the 32bit CALs from Dell are 64bit compliant? I'd like to order whatever I need to have it in time for the laptops arrival.

32bit: Explorer Crashes

Jun 8, 2008

I have been running the 64 bits version of Vista for some days now, but I am facing a lot of problems. A few weeks back, when i was still running the 32bit version of vista, everything ran smooth. I could game, chat on msn, browse with mozilla, and use my favorite code editor programs with no lockups, not freezes and no insane lagspikes / framedrops. A few days ago, I decided to reinstall my computer, because it was cluttered with useless stuff, and it gave me explorer crashes every now and then. I went for the 64bit version of Vista Business. That's where it all started. Running this OS, limits me a lot. I can either update my computer, browse, chat, play WoW, or listen to music, but I cannot do that at the same time, something I could when i was running the 32bit version. I have tried a lot of things. I made WoW run on my 2nd core and my iTunes on the first, I have tried the optimization tool from AMD, I have increased my vid card's memory, all without any success. When I run World of Warcraft, It consumes the whole second core, and around 95% of my RAM. On my 32bit OS, it used only 20% of both cores together, and 55% RAM. My hardware should be able to do this, and it has been done. But for some reason, the x64 OS doesn't seem to do any good.

32bit Runs Faster Than 64
