Printing To Shared XP Printer
Mar 23, 2008Configuration: HP Laptop with Vista Home Premium, Compaq desktop with XP home and Epson Rx500 USB printer shared, Dell desktop with XP home. All in same WORKGROUP. Symptom: XP systems print to RX500 OK. When adding printer to Vista, sees RX500 but get error message after "Connecting to RX500" box. Error messsage says Windows cannot connect to the printer. Access is denied.

Mar 23, 2008I have a Vista computer and an XP computer. Both are on a domain. I have an HP Laserjet 1018 printer attached and installed locally on the Vista computer. The printer is shared and is added to the XP computer. When printing from XP to the laserjet printer on Vista it acts like it goes..no errors but nothing comes out. However, if you restart the print spooler then the jobs start printing. The printer works fine when printing from the Vista machine but not when you try to print from other computers on the network. Anyone know how to resolve this without having to restart the print spooler all the time? Drivers have been reinstalled and that does not help.I also tried removing the printer. Re-adding it. Sharing it again and re-adding it to other hosts on the network....same issue.

How can i use the printer from my laptop, do i need to set up some sort of home network? how do i go about printing on the printer downstairs from my laptop upstairs?

May 19, 2008I have an HP L7680 installed on my home network. I have drivers set up for it on my Vista Ultimate desktop and my XP notebook. All has been working well for a couple of months. A day or two ago the printer stopped printing from the Vista machine. I get no error messages. The print jobs just sit in the queue. I have hard coded an IP address for the printer, and it is still correct. I can connect to the printer's configuration page over the network using the IP address. I can still print to the printer from the notebook running XP--no problems. I can also print to a USB-connected printer on the Vista machine.

Mar 23, 2008My printer is printing out half of the one page. It stops prinhting in the middle of a page and goes to the next page. It stops printing after only finishing the top half of a sentence. I got it to work once. I'm also having an issue with my mouse and keyboard. The mouse will sometimes click a second time and the keyboard will get stuck on the last key for like 3 seconds.

I have a laptop (new HP) with Vista Home Premium SP1 preinstalled, 3 GB RAM,250GB HDD, AMD Turion 64 processor. Using Zone Alarm free as firewall and AVG 8 free as antivirus. Know that firewall is not issue since have full access to printers (can ping the network connected printers) and all other networked computers without problem. I understand that AVG has had a printing issue in the past but I totally turned off AVG by uninstalling itand this did not clear the issue with printing.
Out of the box I have connected the new laptop to the following printers using the latest drivers available from the manufacturers or using Vista's built in if the drivers aren't available from manufacturer's web site.
The following are connected through the home network via wireless and work flawlessly with 3 laptops running XP Pro (2) and XP Home (1).HP 2200DN - B & W Laser (network with Cat5e cable through WAP/Switch) OKIDATA 5150 - Color laser (network with Cat5e cable through WAP/Switch)Epson 1280 (connected through a Sony XP computer share) Epson R260 (also connected through the Sony XP computer)
The last printer is a Canon BJC80 which is connected via a USB to Parallel printer cable (Belkin) which works great with no delay on any of the laptops running XP.
Printer Stopped Working, "error - Printing"
Mar 23, 2008I have Canon BJC-2000 Injet printer. It always worked perfectly with Vistas. Now since I changed the ink cartridges, it won't work. I send the print job and in the print queue is says "error - printing" and that's it.

Vista is able to locate the printer on the network but when I select it for installation, for some time, Vista tries to connect and then pops up this message: "Failed Connecting to Printer - Access Denied" And then another window pops up with this message: "Spooler Subsystem Application stopped woring and has been closed." In fact the spooler service always stops, so I have to restart it on the services windows, within Administrative Tools of the Control Panel. The machine is new and has been installed yesterday. Everything else works fine. The printer I am trying to install is on a Windows XP Professional machine within the same network (naturally).

I also have a new HP Laptop with Vista premium that has also had the same printer attached to it at times so the drivers are installed on HP laptop. I recently installed a router so I can use laptop wirelessly. That works fine. However, I am unable to print to the host printer wirelessly. I get message saying printer cannot communicate with computer. I tried everything I found on Google searches. I have enabled printer sharing on both. Do I have to make the Workgroup names the same and if so do I change the Dell with XP or the HP with Vista? I changed the Dell once to no avail so I changed back. Do computer names have to be same? I am a novice at networking.

Jun 17, 2008I cannot set the default printer in Vista Business with SP1. I am connected to a domain trying to set a network printer hosted from a server as the default printer. I have seen a dozen or more questions similiar to this in this group as well as on other forums and found no answer. I see a MS-MVP come on and tell people to remove local printers such as the XPS and adobe printers. This is a ridiculous solution. Sure it may allow you to connect to a network printer but you have removed printers that you are going to need to use again. Unacceptable.
So far the only other solution that does not include deleting all the local printers off of the machine is to make sure you have write permissions to the default printer registry key. I have checked this and I do have write permissions(Full Control). SO WHAT NEXT? IS MICROSOFT EVER GOING TO COME OUT WITH ANOTHER FIX FOR THIS?

Apr 10, 2009I just upgraded my XP home edition to Vista home premium with an upgrade disk provided by Dell. Before the upgrade I uninstalled my HP 2575 printer and software because it was listed as a compatibility issue. After upgrade I reinstalled new software from HP for my printer from the HP website. I plugged in the USB cable from my printer. Vista recognized the new device but would not put it in the printer folder in the control panel. Vista did find driver software online but could not install it. The HP solution center tells me no HP devices have been detected. When I try to print I get a message that I don’t have a printer hooked up. That’s the back ground here is what I have done.
I have updated Vista; most were successful some security ones failed. I have Service pack 1 I uninstalled and reinstalled HP software many times I started my spooler and reinstalled printer and software many times. I checked Task Manager and the hpqste08 services are running. I uninstalled virus protection and turned off the firewall. I have done everything I can find at HP, Microsoft and here. I tried to reload Vista but got a Worker Thread Returned at Bad IRQL error message so I stopped reload.
The one odd thing I did find was in the Device Manager. In the Device Manager the HP 2575 is listed twice. Once under IEEE 1284.4 compatible printer and once under Other Devices. When I click on the one under IEEE 1284.4 compatible printer and update driver software it finds the driver and says it’s up to date. When I do the same on the one under Other Devices, windows finds the software for this device but encountered an error when trying to install it. It does this when looking online and when looking in C: drive.The printer still does not show up in the printer folder in the control panel.
Desktop Printer Sharing: Won't Find Printer
Jun 10, 2008I have a Vista Home Premium Laptop, an XP Home laptop and an XP Home desktop (and an XBox 360) connected to my Linksys wireless G router and an XP Home desktop connected via CAT5 to the same router. All connect to the internet fine. The XP laptop finds and uses the printer on the desktop fine. I had setup a share of the Canon I560 printer, connected to my XP desktop, on the Vista laptop and it worked fine. I don't believe I made any changes, but now it won't find the printer and I can't seem to install a new copy.
The Vista machine will not detect the printer and won't even find the XP desktop or laptop on the network. The XP machines find each other fine. All machines get their IP address from the router via DHCP. All are in the same workgroup, or it seems so. Strangely the Vista machine shows WORKGROUP and the XP machines show Workgroup, even if I type the name in caps, XP still shows Workgroup and Vista WORKGROUP.............

When i go to the printer wizard it locates the 3600 printer on the network. Then it asks me to choose the printer software from a list. or choose a disk. I don't have the disk. So, looking through this list, it doesn't even have the HP Color Laser Jet 3600 in there. it's got a 3000 and then jumps to 7000.

Not Printing Correctly
Jul 29, 2009how to resolve or further debug. I've got a Thinkpad Laptop running Vista x64 Ultimate. I reinstalled the OS ~3 weeks ago and installed my print drivers. I have 2 network printers and I also use doPDF to create PDFs. All of these were working
just fine.
Today they are not printing correctly, but not in a way I can figure out. Applications give me an error saying there is an unknown error or that there is no default printer installed. This happens in Firefox, OpenOffice, Acrobat, Thunderbird and others.
The weird thing is that if I goto control panel and try to print a test page with any of the printers it works fine. In addition, I can print txt files from both Notepad & Wordpad, but still not from Openoffice. So why is it I can print simple txt files & test pages but not from the apps I need to print from. BTW this happens for all the printers I have installed including the 2 network printers, the local PDf printer (doPDF), & the XPS printer. These all worked last time I printed (a few days ago), but not today. What can I do to ideally fix this or at least better debg this?
Panasonic Printing
Apr 4, 2008My KX-P1123 does not print in response to the "Print" command from Vista Home Basic. It worked well when connected to Win98. I don't think theprinter is at fault because it does print in response to inputs from itsControl Table.
I am using the correct printer cable ."USB to Centronix 36parallel printer. Vista's Control Panel/Printers shows the KX-P1123 is installed. The Panasonic website tells me that the printer's driver (*1INBOX) is installed and no other drivers are needed.
Following the instructions that came with the cable, I made the KX-P1123 the default printer, right-clicked it and selected "Properties". Then clicked "Ports" and selected "USB001:Virtual PrinterPort for USB". Clicking "Print Test Page" changes printer status from "Ready" to "Error".
If I connect my Epson inkjet to the PC, it works well, so the PC does not seem to be the problem.I evidently did something wrong, or left something undone.
Printing A TIF File
Mar 23, 2008I've tried everything conceivable to get a decent print-out of a 4-page tif file I have, to no avail. I have Vista Home Premium. When I try to print from Windows Photo Gallery, it turns my tif into landscape orientation and then prints only the middle part and the output is distorted.
I am so frustrated with Vista. I'm sending 3/4 of my time solving problems and getting very little work done. Can someone please tell me how to print a decent copy of a 4-page tif file in Vista?
Printing Through Network
Mar 23, 2008i run a wirless net work with 2 XP computers and 1 vista computers I can see every one on my network map on my vista computer but not in the network section. My printer is slaved off of my desktop XP and my XP laptop can print to it. However I can't get my Vista lap top to access the hard drive of either computer or the printer. I have install the patch on both xp computers and the printer is vista compatable. network discovery is turned on on my vista computer.

Also the PDF printer dialog box shows "Error - Printing" and the PDF printer refuses to print. PDF files can be saved from other programs with no problems. Jul 29, 2009The shared printer is connected to LPT of a Vista computer. We used to have an XP computer that could print to this printer. We changed the XP comp for a Vista notebook. This notebook has the same user/password as the Vista machine where the printer is connected to. Hence, this user can print from the notebook.
Now the strange part: another user on this notebook can't. It is sent to the printer spooler, sits there for a few minutes ('printing...') and then there's an error message (just 'cannot print' or something like that). We set this account to administrator type, during install we put in and stored the account name and password of the account that can print (so the one that is the same on both computers) but to no avail.
