Had a couple of transferred programs that needed to have *.exe shortcut icons in my 'Start > Programs' list. Guess what? I can't find it...I can't even find 'Documents & Settings'. Where is this folder officially located in Vista (as I'm very used to XP Pro, only recently having converted over)...so I can drag&drop the executable?

get rid of a program, have looked in programs and features its not there looked in program files its not there looked in start-programs its not there i can click on control panel and its in the control panel but will not let me do any thing from there, i dont rember installing the program and i dont use it any how, i have windows vista 32-bit than you.

View 4 Replies View RelatedUnder *Inbox* in Windows Mail I have a dozen or so sub-folders titled by the sender such as "From NatWest 09", or "From Family & Friends 09". I _*HAD,*_ until last week, a similar numbers of sub-folders under Windows Mail *Sent*, such as "To NatWest 09" or "To Family & Friends 09". All the *Sent* file folders have now disappeared. I have accessed Tools, Options,Advanced, Maintenance, Store Folder, Store Location and Change, but cannot find any of the Sent folders anywhere. Can anyone please suggest a way to find and restore them?

View 6 Replies View Relatedthis happened around one year ago before i discovered this site.. one day i clicked on start and on the music tab.. then an error occurred.. it says that the file location cannot be found. then i browsed 'my computer' there i saw that there are two files separated, a file location with the icon of the music folder, and one with simply a folder icon.. after five days, same thing happened with the my documents folder.. the separate file with the folder icon contains every single file of the "REAL" icon. while the other one has nothing in it.. same with the music icon..

I set up a seperate partition where I want this folder to go, where I'll store all my movies, pictures etc. Oh btw I've just done a full format so the user files are empty, I'm just going to move it to a new location and then move my backed up files over.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am moving my Documents , Pictures, and Music folders associated with the start menu on the right side of start menu (under the user pix) to a seperate partition on the hard drive so that it will be easier to back up these files monthly, and also allow me to create an image disk of the os without all the data files being included. Going very smoothly except that I stupidly deleted the music folder after I had moved the files, and now when I click the music tab on the start menu, it no longer directs to where the music files have been moved. The Pictures and Documents tabs work correctly...that is, when I click those tabs on the start menu, I am taken to their new location just fine.
My question is, is there some way to re-create that original Music folder which , when I right-click properties, has the tab for LOCATION which will then allow me to change its location settings so that the Music tab on the start menu can find it ? Seems to be a special type of folder, and if I just create a new one, it does not include the Location tab under properties. I should add that I can create a shortcut and pin it to the start menu, but if possible, I'd like to use the original Music tab on the right side of start menu.

View 7 Replies View Relatedwhen i go to start, all programs, all my folders/programs show up, but then i noticed that theres a "programs" folder within the list, and when i click that, it shows all the same folders/programs that are in the "all programs" list. but then some of the folders within the ones in the 'all programs" list, they are empty, but they show up in the programs folder in the list. i dont know how this happened and i just wanted to know how to fix this issue.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI can't get access to certain folders, everything was fine until my HD went KaPuT, so I installed a new dual 160GB raid system so I won't lose it all again, the only problem is now that I reloaded Vista Ultimate I can't access anything, I have turned UAC off, and gave permissions, and turned over ownership of everything to me, there is nobody else listed as a user in my system, yet when I use my AutoCad LT 2008 and try to access files, when I click on the directory I need to get into, it does nothing, I can get into other ones, but not any of the ones with little tiny curved arrows in boxes on the lower left. I have access of them in explorer, but not through LT 2008

Under earlier versions you had the option of keeping messages in the delete folder when existing. I can't find that option in the current version of Windows Mail.

For EXAMPLE--- I have a special personalized "BITMAP image" folder I especially made just for all my screen saver "custom reflections".......just to use for the windows screensaver classic "3-D TEXT" --- (that many people usually use for the digital CLOCK feature) --- which originally showed up for as one of the screen savers for Windows XP.
Anyway....many of you are probably very familiar with this screen saver since its very useful as a clock. Yet I happen to like using my own customized bitmap reflections. I am trying to find the font folder, so that I can copy a font onto a disk to put onto my laptop. In other versions of Windows its C:windowsfonts, which it appears to be in Vista, but once in C:Windows I cannot find the fonts folder. If I go through the control panel to the fonts folder it will not let me copy the front from there. It will let me right click the font to copy, but not let me paste onto a memory stick. I have already got into Folder options and made sure that Hidden files are visible.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIve been having a few problems with uninstalling some programs via the add/remove programs tool. For example I have been trying to uninstall Itunes and everytime I do Windows installer says it is preparing to remove and then it stops and a window come up that says "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and then another one says I do not have sufficient access to uninstall Itunes and to please contact system administrator.
So I spoke to a friend how recommended this forum subject and I followed the Take Ownership steps a few times but to no avail it still does the same thing. I can't update Itunes untill this one is uninstalled!!!!!
I use Vista 32 Ultimate and I have this problem during the startup of Windows: The UAC control stops 2 programs and I'm not able to let these programs load with UAC control active. Tried everything also in Windows defender but no success. I must always confirm and let run these programs clicking on the UAC block tray icon that appear during the load of these 2 programs. Someone tell me that these programs blocked by UAC must be updated from the developers to pass the UAC.

I was playing around with the permissions for one of my secondary drives that holds data e.g videos, mp3s so that my pal couldnt get into them and mess around with it and know it gives me this message everytime i try and access the drive.
Location is not available (this appears in the title bar of the error message)
I: is not accessible (this appears in the main part of the error message)
Access is denied (this appears under the above message in the error message)
And there is only an OK button i can press.
So here is how this all came about.
I right clicked on the drive,
selected properties,
Clicked on the security tab,
clicked on the "users" option under the "Group or user names" section,
Clicked on "edit",
clicked on the "users" option under the "Group or user names" section,
selected "deny" for every box under the "permissions for users" section,
clicked apply,
an clicked "ok" until the windows were all closed.
The drive name was then changed to "Access Denied" after i had done this with no letter assigned to the drive.
I went into computer management and assigned a drive letter but still no good.
I now right click the drive and select properties and the security tab is no longer there, so i cannot reverse the permissions.
I am logged in as an administrator.
I have tried to turn off UAC with no luck.
I have attempted to create another administrator account and change the permissions from there but no good.
So does anyone out there know of how i can get this drive accessible so i can access my files?
I am having Windows Vista Home premium. when i access the My Computer i am getting this Message The location is not available c:windowssystem32configsystemprofiledesktop refers to a location that is unavailable. it could be on a hard drive on this computer.or on a network. check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the internet or your network and then try again.
if it still cannot be located the information might have been moved to a different location. in afternoon session working fine i dont know suddenly this is the message is showing .. i dont know wat happend to this.
My Internet Explorer does not 'find' the Favorites. My Favorites fie folder has not moved and contains files but the I.E. does not 'look' in the correct location. How do I tell IE where the folder is. (The error message says it is trying to open a non-existent folder)
