I am trying to open a downloaded file and just can not seem to... I think it is in ZIP format. I have Vista PH and the file is a font - it will not open in Paint.Net or any other program and I am not able to un-zip it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am downloading a file from a website (Janome - sewing machine related) and it shows on the list of the downloads pop up window -- but I can't find it on my hard drive. How can I locate the file? It's not in the download folder. If I search for the file name nothing comes up (I sure miss the old search process). I need to copy this file and move it to a flash drive -- in order to move it to an older laptop that no longer has Internet access - but runs my embroidery sewing machine. But I can't find the file. If I double click on the downloads pop-up -- it attempts to open the file -- So I am convinced it is there somewhere...
View 6 Replies View RelatedJust bought my son a new PC with Vista HP 32 bit - he installed Warhammer online but it would not run the game - the error message was asking for a DX9 DLL file - downloaded and installed that, the game now runs, BUT will not boot next time he turns it on..... he has to boot at a restore point before the DLL was installed - is there a way round this as its a pain to do this every time he wants to play?

But I must've done something wrong in the process because when I check the location I saved it to, it shows a shortcut (.lnk) that won't do a thing if I double click on it. Is there a way to change the extension back to .exe so I can run it (it's an install program)? I've already scouted the forums and noticed you can do something with your regs, but I'm afraid that will affect other files on my computer and I'm only having problems with this particular file.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have had the common problem on not being able to install KB938371 update which is one of the 3 prerequisites to downloading through Microsoft Update the SP1. I have tried all the tricks and suggestion published throughout the web except an in place reinstall of Vista Business. This is highly undesireable since my sony laptop will only reinstall Vista Business as per original with all the software originally shipped which is a pain to remove.
If I download the entire sp1 750mb file, will it install without the prerequsite files? I have read that the prerequisites were actually a compilation of sp1 files and not an actual update to Vista. This being the case, it seems that if the sp1 file were downloaded it would work.
I have recieved a security alert saying "security setting wii not allow this file to be downloaded. I have tried many times to correct this problem and must admit defeat.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhenever I request a "File|Open" or "File|Save" from any application, the mini-Windows-Explorer dialog box that opens freezes and hangs the entire application. Happens with almost all applications. Not limited to just Microsoft programs. It does not matter if I like change the download folder or if I rt click always the same.
Back when it was under warranty Hp tells me to just restore to original settings. I hate to do that. But I am about to see that this might be the only fix for it. (But I am hoping not.) I think it started a long time ago when I was changing the USB ports I used for my external Hard drive and it changed drive letter. (maybe maybe not.. just seems I remember that being something that had happened when I first recall things hanging...) anyway I have all drives in the place I want them now and this issue still happens even if I dont have that external drive plugged in.
I had to reinstall Vista on my computer. Previously I used Outlook. I can't find the activation code so I want to try Windows Mail. I saved my Outlook email pst file. Is there a way to get Windows Mail to open that file.

View 8 Replies View RelatedWhenever I open a .pdf file, whether in Acrobat or within a web browser, my computer suddenly goes into low-color (8-bit) mode, and I have to go to personalization/display settings to correct it. I have the most recent version of Acrobat, and have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but this still happens every time I open a .pdf! I downloaded some software from a company named X10. It's for monitoring security cameras from a remote location. The software is name Vangaurd. I'm trying to uninstall it but I keep getting "cannot open log install. log file". I notice there is not a folder for this in my program files, therefore I do not see an "unistall". Basically any file he downloads (it may be a photo of his grandson sent as an email attachment in jpg format, or a program such as skype.exe, or a pdf document) cannot be opened. When double-clicked, any downloaded file opens up iTunes and presents the message "iTunes cannot open this file". I know it's not much to go on but his message recorded badly.
