Recipients Cannot Open Attachments Because Of .eml Extension

Apr 10, 2008

When forwarding emails with attachments, my recipients tell me that they cannot open the attachments because of the .eml extension. They apparently are not using Vista. Is there a way to change the extension for those items I want to forward. I have tried replacing the extension, but can't make it work so far. I don't want to have to revert to my laptop (XP)

Open Files With The SKP Extension It Started Using Adobe Reader

Sep 22, 2009

For some reason Vista stopped using Google Sketchup to open files with the SKP extension. (It started using Adobe Reader). If I attempt to navigate to and open the correct program (Open With | Chose Default Program | Browse) Sketchup is not added to the list of candidate programs (no error indicated -- just doesn't happen). I can open a file from within the Sketchup program or drag a file onto the Sketchup desktop icon but can't open with the correct program by double clicking the SKP file. What am I missing?

Downloaded File (exe) Has Link Extension

Feb 19, 2009

I just downloaded an .exe file fromt the internet and saved it to my harddrive. But I must've done something wrong in the process because when I check the location I saved it to, it shows a shortcut (.lnk) that won't do a thing if I double click on it. Is there a way to change the extension back to .exe so I can run it (it's an install program)? I've already scouted the forums and noticed you can do something with your regs, but I'm afraid that will affect other files on my computer and I'm only having problems with this particular file.

Mswmm Files: Change The File Extension To Like .WMV.

May 26, 2008

I have seen the replies about MSWMM files and understand that I have to change the file extension to something like .WMV. But how do I do this? I have tried various things but none seem to work. The tinyurl references published in other answers don't help, and the Microsoft reference is utterly useless. Why do I get an .MSWMM ext. anyway? SHouldn't Vista automatically supply a useable file extension, or is it something to do with a pre-installed program in my Sony Vaio laptop??? Grateful for advice.

Can Change .flv File Extension, And Copy A Video To CD/DVD

Sep 11, 2009

so this is probably hugely naïve, but I would like to make legitimate, playable versions of music and other videos that I have downloaded as Flash Video Files [.flv] to Real Player, and copy these to a CD/DVD. I do have NTI CD&DVD-Maker 7x. Platinum Edition, and have tried to do this, but it does not recognise the .flv format. Is there a simple way of copying the video clip and changing the file extension of the copy so that it will be recognised by NTI CD&DVD-Maker? I stress, that I want a legitimate way to do this. If it can't be done, then so be it, and I'll forget all about trying to do it.

File Open & File Save Dialog Box Hangs

May 15, 2010

Whenever I request a "File|Open" or "File|Save" from any application, the mini-Windows-Explorer dialog box that opens freezes and hangs the entire application. Happens with almost all applications. Not limited to just Microsoft programs. It does not matter if I like change the download folder or if I rt click always the same.

Back when it was under warranty Hp tells me to just restore to original settings. I hate to do that. But I am about to see that this might be the only fix for it. (But I am hoping not.) I think it started a long time ago when I was changing the USB ports I used for my external Hard drive and it changed drive letter. (maybe maybe not.. just seems I remember that being something that had happened when I first recall things hanging...) anyway I have all drives in the place I want them now and this issue still happens even if I dont have that external drive plugged in.

MMC Can't Open The File C:WindowsSystem32eventvwr.msc

Oct 17, 2008

This pops up when i try to open Control Panel>>Administrative tools>>event viewer:
"MMC can't open the file C:WindowsSystem32eventvwr.msc. This may be because the file does not exist, it is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights to the file." I have tried everything that I know about to solve this problem. I have googled the problem, and came up to the solution of running "regsvr32 msxml3.dll". When i run regsvr32 msxml3.dll(on some forums i have read it should be the solution) I get another new error code:...........

ITunes Cannot Open This File

May 27, 2010

A friend left a garbled message on my telephone answering machine asking me for help but I don't use Vista or iTunes, so I'm hoping some kind soul on here can help. Basically any file he downloads (it may be a photo of his grandson sent as an email attachment in jpg format, or a program such as skype.exe, or a pdf document) cannot be opened. When double-clicked, any downloaded file opens up iTunes and presents the message "iTunes cannot open this file". I know it's not much to go on but his message recorded badly.

Open .exe File IE Ittunes

Mar 7, 2010

So apparently I had a massive amount of viruses on my computer, of which I recently purchased Vista anti-virus to remove them all. This worked great for a bit but now whenever I try opening any program/file it asks me which program I want to use to open it. This includes .exe files, along with things like IE, iTunes. Windows Media Player, and many others. I have downloaded a patch that is supposed to fix this, but when I go to open the file (which is a .exe one) it once again asks me which program I want to open it with.
