File Open & File Save Dialog Box Hangs

May 15, 2010

Whenever I request a "File|Open" or "File|Save" from any application, the mini-Windows-Explorer dialog box that opens freezes and hangs the entire application. Happens with almost all applications. Not limited to just Microsoft programs. It does not matter if I like change the download folder or if I rt click always the same.

Back when it was under warranty Hp tells me to just restore to original settings. I hate to do that. But I am about to see that this might be the only fix for it. (But I am hoping not.) I think it started a long time ago when I was changing the USB ports I used for my external Hard drive and it changed drive letter. (maybe maybe not.. just seems I remember that being something that had happened when I first recall things hanging...) anyway I have all drives in the place I want them now and this issue still happens even if I dont have that external drive plugged in.

Can't Open The Program

Mar 26, 2008

Having downloaded Ulead Video Studio 11 Plus (Vista compatible,trial/evaluation version) direct from Corel???s site, saved on a directory, installed, and then trying to open that program, I cannot do it. Does not react at all. UAC is activated ()asking me permision tu continue,AV desactivated during installation, reboot many times. Repeating downloading (from same source as well as from other source as BitTorrent), uninstalling the previous installed one - as per ???cleaning??? procedure I saw in Corel's forum - then re-installing the software, same result. Running as Administrator and adjusting firewall settings accordingly, same result, cannot open the program neither by double-clinking icon on desktop/Start Program nor exe file.Note:

1)There is another Ulead software (licensed),named ???Ulead DVD MovieFactory for Toshiba??? allready installed, working perfectly.
2)I???m using a Notebook Toshiba Satellite P200-10C, Vista Home Premium as OS, Intel Core(2) duo T7200, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600, Intel 945, Realtek High Definition Audio, dual HDD 125GB each, 2046MB memory, integrated webcam.
3)Try to install UVS 11 Plus downloaded from a BitTorrent tracker(after cleaning as above) and a message occurs : ???The security information is invalid or has been modified???. Cannot open the program, so I uninstalled it.....

32-bit Process And Open Program, Nothing Happens

Feb 21, 2009

so this is the weirdest error ever. I installed SlySoft Virtual CloneDrive, as well as an update to Comodo Internet Security. Both installers wanted me to install an unsigned driver, then for me to reboot. After I rebooted, I could not open any 32-bit programs. I have no clue why. I uninstalled Virtual CloneDrive, but I still cannot open 32-bit programs. It's so weird, I can open 64-bit programs just fine, but I try to open a 32-bit program, nothing happens. If I boot into Safe Mode, I can open 32-bit (and 64-bit) programs, but I cannot open 32-bit programs normally.

Since I can run 32-bit programs in Safe Mode, I think it is a driver issue, or something that Safe Mode does not load that Vista does normally. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know a fix?

Running Batch File

Sep 25, 2009

I am trying to run a batch file in vista as an administrator. I know I can use the RUNAS command, but this prompts me for a password. (and what password is a mystery to me as it's a non domain machine and there isn't a user called administrator, but that's besides the point). What I am looking to do is to replicate the behaviour of Right Clicking on the batch file and clicking 'Run as administrator', then the security box comes up - this is fine, that is EXACTLY what I want to happen. The user already has adminitrator privilages and I understand that I'll never get around the security box coming up - I don't mind this, but I can't seem to find a way of replicating this.

Unable To Burn, Program Don't Open Or Anything

Sep 11, 2009

I recently bought a new laptop with Vista Home Premium 32bit and everything on it works fine. Or well, not everything lol. I can't seem to get any burning software to work :s I tried installing Nero, but it gave me a message that "another program has just been updated, so you need to restart" (or something like that). I restart and it says it again. I tried installing CDBurnerXP and it installed fine, but when I start the program, nothing happens. Program don't open or anything. I then tried installing Starburn and it also installed just fine, but when I click on Data Burning Wizard, it shows up that it's trying to find CD/DVD burners, and it keeps searching forever (or well, I waited 30 minutes and then manually shutdown the program).

Now I have Windows up and running again but cannot select files that I need to reload on my computer because they are in VHD format. I can do a complete restore, again using Windows, but all that will do will put the corrupt file back on my machine. Does anybody know how I can access these files another way?

System32 DLLs: Running System File Checker

It looks like my Media PC restarted while Media Centre was still running and somehow it has corrupted a couple of DLL files.

OLEACC.DLL
WINTRUST.DLL

I have tried running System File Checker, while confirmed that some files were corrupted, but it couldn't fix them. Eventually I worked out how to change the permissions on those files so that I can manually replace them, but can't find a fresh file to replace them with, either on the Vista DVD or on the Net.

Windows Cannot Open This Program Because It Has Been Prevented By A Software Restriction Policy

May 28, 2008

Since installing service pack 1, I cannot find windows media player or the Media center. I have looked every where and when I tried to download it again I got the following message. There is a more recent version of Windows Media player (11.0.6001.7000) already installed on your computer. It is not possible to use an older installation package (11.0.5721.5146) to install files or to repair your current version of the player.

I can't even find it to uninstall it and then download it again! I have just found another post which said to right click on the desktop and type in C:|windowsehomeehshell.exe to create a shortcut. This worked but when i tried to open the application using administrstor option I got this message. Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy. For more information contact your system administrator. I am the administrator and I don't know what I'm talking about!! Any ideas please???

Best File Recovery Program

Nov 25, 2009

I need a good file recovery program that will run both under Vista and Win 7. It needs to be able to salvage files both deleted and those lost because of disc errors. It also needs to be able to work with both internal and external hard discs, and all flavors of CD and DVD. Any recommendations? Most of the ones that allow you to download a trial have crippled to trial so much that it's really hard to judge them. Incidentally, I ran the free Recuva on a DVD-RW; I started it at 12:30 PM and at 5:30 AM (17 hours later) it showed 89% complete, and at 8:00 it had stopped with the message "allocation error".

Moving To 64, Program File Directories

Sep 2, 2008

About a week or so ago, I decided to upgrade my PC to Windows Vista. I gave it awhile, mostly didn't want to deal with an upgrade and all that. System has been fine on XP for years...why mess with it. But having gotten a new video card, I just wanted to be current on my OS again. As it turns out, I like Vista alot and have had little to no trouble with it. If you look at my system config, nothing is more than a year old at most, so my computer, at least for my needs is still "current." Having tried and like Vista 32bit (Home Premium) I have decided to take the next step into 64bit and that's why I am here. My system is 64 bit compatible, so I figure it's time to take full advantage of it. I have important apps I use for school for 3D that have 64bit versions I've been wanting to try, and I have 2 Gigs of RAM coming today which will make my total 4 and 64bit is the only way I can utilize it all!

I'll probably be doing the format install sometime tonight, which finally brings me to why I posted. In my research of Vista 64, I have read some blurbs about it giving youo 2 program files, Program Files and Program Files x86 (Or something.) I've also read that in some cases it can be important to make sure you install a certain program to the right one. My system has 3 physical Hard drive, that I partitioned in several total for storage, windows, programs, games, and so on. My current Program Files is a 80GB Partition all by itself. It's a different physical drive than Windows is on. Will installing applications to this drive like I have always did cause me any trouble in this new Vista 64 bit I'm about to dive into? My system will definately have a mix of 32bit and 64bit apps, with more by far probably being 32bit. Also while I think to ask, will the Vista 64 install procedure allow me to just wipe the partition my OS is currently on? Or will going to 64 bit require me to wipe the entire physical HDD? The other partitions that share the Windows INstall Partition are just storage so I don't want to format them unless I need to.

Associations To Cd Rom Drive: File Does Not Have A Program Associated

Jul 13, 2009

I went to open a software disc that I just put in my drive and I moved to fast or something and clicked on the wrong option on the context menu and messed up the association to my cd/dvd rom drive. Now I cant get the drive to auto start and show the icon next to the cd drive letter. It also wont run if I double click on the drive.

I get an error that says: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel. Now I have tried everything from exefix_vista.reg, inffix_vista.reg, exefix_cu.reg. I'm not new to computers, but this has me all messed up. I need to use that disc for school. I even tried putting a disc in for my router software and still get the same error. I don't know where to go from here. I've uninstalled my drive and drivers, I've checked with Vista repair, nothing works. I don't want to have to reload my OS if I can help it.

File Does Not Have A Program Associated With It For Performing The Action

Sep 29, 2009

Any email that I receive that has a link in it will not go to the link. I get an error mesage that says the file does not have a program associated with it for performing the action. It says I need to "create an association in the Set Association control panel." Other times I get a pop up that says "application not found". I can't provide any more info than that. I don't know where to find the "association control panel" and when I call Windstream, my email provider, they tell me it's my computer that's screwed up and transfer me to India where I get to converse with a nice gentleman for thirty minutes and who still can't understand what I'm saying.
