Will Not Start After Bootvis Optimize
Nov 2, 2006
I have used Bootvis in the past with no problems. Today I tried bootvis optimize and it told me to restart like normal, only this time right before windows would have the Login Screen pop up, the computer restarts. Safe mode works great, so I am thinking that Bootvis has some sort of sequence it wants to execute during bootup which is causing a problem. How can I stop bootvis from trying to work on my boot files during boot up

As from a few days ago, the bootup speed of my PC has suddenly slowed to a crawl. it takes about 6 minutes for the bootup now, whereas before it had taken about 2 minutes.
I tried bootvis but it is not working properly and keeps coming up with errors.

I used bootvis to try to increase my computer's startup time. However it actually did the opposite. I tried to do a system restore, but it failed. I even tried to use the bootvis again, but still the same startup times. The initial startup to the login screen is fine, but after login, it takes an additional 2-3 minutes just for the startmenu bar to appear. All that shows at first is my picture that I have set as a background. Now mind you I never had this problem before using bootvis.
Is there anyway to go back to the original configuration?

I have a Dell 9100 with Dual Core CPU and 1GB memory running XP Professional. This PC is very slow at boot time. Even once it is up it is slow and constantly making churning noise. The hardware test reports that all the hardware is functioning with not failures. I came to know about Bootvis which helps debug and detect issues that occur during the startup. When i ran the utilitiy it is complaining about "Number of Physical drives in the trave file is 0" when i am trying to analyze the bootvis trace file. Has anybody encountered this error or know about this error

I have posted this problem before but none of the answers seemed to work. Windows XP Pro SP2 When I boot my computer up I have about 22 GB of space. After about 2 days it's all gone and I have to re-Boot the computer. I have looked at recent files etc but nothing is over a GB. I have also de-installed Bootvis as I thought that might be the problem.

When you buy a new computer it is often loaded with extra software that you just don’t need. OEMs are paid by software companies to bundle trial versions in hopes that you will buy the full product. The preloaded junk is a waste of disk space, memory and can even hurt the performance of your new computer so it is a good idea to remove it all.

I've been trying to optimize my XP system to run as good as it possibly can, free from fragmentation, junk files, spyware etc. I've come up with a few programs that I want to ask people about. Spybot S&D 1.5 (the new one), Advanced Windows Care, CCleaner, and Glary Utilities. I have on my computer, only AWC because it can do almost all of what CCleaner does and it also has something similar to the "Immunize" function in Spybot and I heard it's bad to have more than one of those kinds of things happening at once. Could someone let me know how many of these programs I can or should be running? Are they all able to run fully (meaning that I'm able to immunize in Spybot and immunize in AWC and Glary for example) together, or are there some that I can't run if I am running others.

I found this link on this website ... Optimize XP: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/OptimizeXP.html
I did everything, but the one part where it says to turn up the inital and maximum page file size to 1.5x and 3x respectively of the amount of ram in your computer, i had a problem with. I have 1536MB Ram in my computer, and it will only go up to 4096 in the maximum thing. Does that mean i'm losting like 200-300 mbs of ram? What else is there to do?

I am using Windows XP and have Adware by the name of Optimize.exe on my computer. I am usually good at cleaning my computer but must have clicked the wrong thing for this to load. This issue is in Safe Mode. When I enter Safe Mode, I can not click anything. All icon pop up on the desktop but they are unclickable. From the task manager it shows no applications running but a few processes (all System processes). I am sure that the spyware is preventing Safe Mode from working somehow. I use Safe Mode with Ad-Aware and Autoruns all the time to clean my

The Microsoft Windows registry is a hierarchical database of system configuration data. Many of the programs written for Windows 32-bit and 64-bit platforms require data from the registry. This means it is used often, and some programs really like to hammer the registry. Running a program such as SysInternal's RegMon, which logs access to the registry, can show you just how much some programs make use of the registry. Even Explorer, the file browser built into Windows, makes heavy use and this can have wide impact on performance

I have a Dell PC 8250 and over the past two yrs I have managed somehow to increase my start-up time by inadvertently adding to my start-up file. I understand that there is a way to eliminate items in the start-up file but having been to the site, I cannot determine which items to delete without messing up my system. Please advise, and maybe tell me what the basic start up should look like.

In a not updated Version of Windows XP you can run (Start-run) "start"command at the Run dialog just typing it, when you update windows andwrite the same "start" into Run dialog Windows shows a error message >Windows cannot find `start`. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for the file, click the Start button, andthen click Search. If you are in CMD the `start` command works fine but the problem is thein Run dialog windows doesn’t recognize it ?

I have experienced a sudden problem starting programs. The computer boots correctly, and all desktop icons appear correctly. But when I double click a desktop icon, or start a program from the start menu, I get a popup window displaying a list of programs and asking me which program I want to use to start the application. I select the correct program (or browse to the appropriate .exe file), but still the application doesn't start. This includes IE and Windows Messenger. My virus scanner was about the only thing that I could start up, and I did a system scan with Panda Anti-Virus, but it didn't show anything substantial (just some cookies).Using my WinXP set up disk,I've tried to do a repair (I guess reinstallation without reformatting the hard disk), but after I entered the License Key, the computer did a reboot and then stopped. It is stuck on the XP splash screen and won't go any further (I once let it run over night, but it was still frozen on the splash screen). I even tried to repeat the repair process, but that didn't work.Automatic updates did download an update just before this problem started (I think it was the day before the problems began). I don't know what this update was and I'm not sure it was SP3 (system does have SP2 installed).Considering that the computer freezes now when booting up, is there anything that I can do short of reformatting the Hard Drive? I also have another hard drive that I can use to install XP onto. Is there any way that I can rescue the data from the old Hard Drive and transfer to new drive?

We are trying to start a laptop but windows is not starting up properly. As the boot begins, it takes you to a screen that says, :"if a previous start up attempt was inturrupted due to a power failure, then choose Start Windows Normally". We follow the directions, takes us the Window XP screen trying to boot it up and then takes us to the Gateway screen and then back to the screen where it asks the same question again. The cycles continues without any other options.

I have a Compaq Presario desk top. one gig memory. XP which is up to date. Run AVG free, windows defender, threatfire, spybot.I am on a cable hookup with a linksys BEFSR41 router. Turn off the computer each night.Right now I am using a laptop connected to the router to access the internet. the desktop would take a long time to start up applications but when they did start up things ran ok. This morning, I power up and the computer will go thru the speed start up list but will not start up anything from the start menu, just get the hour glass. On start alt delete, it says 99 percent system idle. On start up I hit the f10 key to start up a compaq system restore and it will not go.get the message system registry file failure, hive file, system root system32 configsecurity corrupt, absent, or not write able.

How do i get to the little menu where I can choose which applications automatically start up when Windows starts up and which do not? I forgot how to get to that menu but I remember that I could check and uncheck which things would start up, etc. The reason for this is because everytime I start windows, it tries to load my scanning software which I don't need started anymore due to the scanner not being connected at all anymore, and the un installation not going as properly as it should of.. but it just bugs me that it tries to connect to the scanner (with about 3-4 attempts) when Windows starts so this is my best option.
