Bootvis - Number Of Physical Drives In The Trace File Is 0

I have a Dell 9100 with Dual Core CPU and 1GB memory running XP Professional. This PC is very slow at boot time. Even once it is up it is slow and constantly making churning noise. The hardware test reports that all the hardware is functioning with not failures. I came to know about Bootvis which helps debug and detect issues that occur during the startup. When i ran the utilitiy it is complaining about "Number of Physical drives in the trave file is 0" when i am trying to analyze the bootvis trace file. Has anybody encountered this error or know about this error
My office has a number of mapped network drives for each user which, unfortunately, start at drive letter F.Each time a USB device is used on the computer it is also automatically assigned the drive letter F (presuming that C is hard disk and D and E are CD/DVD drives). This has to be manually changed from within Disk Management.Apparently this is as a result of physical drives taking precedent over the mapped network drives.Is there any workaround for this other than moving the mapped drive letters further along in the alphabet? - this is not really a feasible solution at this time.
when my PC boots it up it goes to a black screen giving options such as safe mode etc. All of these options end up with the computer going to a bluescreen and the following message: STOP: c0000218 (Registry File Failure) The registry cannot load the hive (file): SystemRootSystem32ConfigSOFTWARE It is corrupt, absent, or not writable. Beginning dump of physical memory Physical memory dump complete. have no disks at all with laptop. And my knowldge goes as far as being able to use the internet.
As from a few days ago, the bootup speed of my PC has suddenly slowed to a crawl. it takes about 6 minutes for the bootup now, whereas before it had taken about 2 minutes.
I tried bootvis but it is not working properly and keeps coming up with errors.
I have used Bootvis in the past with no problems. Today I tried bootvis optimize and it told me to restart like normal, only this time right before windows would have the Login Screen pop up, the computer restarts. Safe mode works great, so I am thinking that Bootvis has some sort of sequence it wants to execute during bootup which is causing a problem. How can I stop bootvis from trying to work on my boot files during boot up
I used bootvis to try to increase my computer's startup time. However it actually did the opposite. I tried to do a system restore, but it failed. I even tried to use the bootvis again, but still the same startup times. The initial startup to the login screen is fine, but after login, it takes an additional 2-3 minutes just for the startmenu bar to appear. All that shows at first is my picture that I have set as a background. Now mind you I never had this problem before using bootvis. Is there anyway to go back to the original configuration?
I have posted this problem before but none of the answers seemed to work. Windows XP Pro SP2 When I boot my computer up I have about 22 GB of space. After about 2 days it's all gone and I have to re-Boot the computer. I have looked at recent files etc but nothing is over a GB. I have also de-installed Bootvis as I thought that might be the problem.
I have a Western Digital 20 GB secondary internal hard disk as E:. It has been working fine for the last two years. Recently, while trying to access this disk, Windows displays message, "The disk in this drive is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" When I insert a CD into the D: it spins for ~5-10 secs but then shows nothing in the right pane of Windows Explorer. Does not even give me the usual prompt to, "Please insert a disk into drive D:". It doesn't hang Windows Explorer, just sits there with D: actually selected in left pane. This is particularly odd as normally one would get the "insert disk" prompt. To test for drive readability, I successfully *booted* from the Windows XP installation CD-ROM. It read the CD fine so not a defective or broken CD-ROM. This also rules out that maybe the CD I inserted was bad or had scratches.
When I insert either om my two SanDisk USB 512MB flash, Windows Explorer "assigns" it a drive letter but does not show it as formatted, ie- "The disk in this drive is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" Even if I do select to format the drive, the format process fails. This drive has beeen tested on two other WinXP installtions and works fine......
After running the MS Bootvis utility, the file C:WINDOWSSystem32LogFilesWMI race.log becomes hugely inflated. The file shrinks on reboting but may rapidly grow to a few gig's in size, to cure the problem run BootVis again and click Trace-->Stop Tracing, the file will now stop growing and may be safely deleted.The MSBootVis utility may be found here:http://www.microsoft.com/hwdev/platform/performance/fastboot/default.asp
it possible to trace the keys of the keyboard or trace the screens. I have to show the steps for some installation . The only way I know is to se Print screen button and paste that on the Word document, but that is time consuming. I am wondering if this is possible somehow with some kind of trace on ?
On my PC, I have C: and F: as my hard drives - and the F: is used for all of my music storage - there are 3 main folders on this hard drive. All of my music is stored in artist alphabetical order. The capacity of the hard drive is 80 gig (76.3) - whilst going into my music folder, all of the artists from A to G are listed, but beyond that - they have dissapeared! The hard drive has got 75.3 gig used, thus the files are still there. I have checked that the hidden files tab is on, and the files are still not showing - however say I do a search for an artist on the F: ie Pulp, no files found matching that name
I want to know how to find from logs or any other files from windows XP, whether a pendrive is inserted when i am away from my computer. I dont want to install third party software. what are the ways in windows to find it out.
I know it is stupid but i have put up all the defense i can, firewall, antivirus, but somehow these nasty buggers just slip through. I am no computer expert, just an average user, so i don't want to reinstall the entire windows XP and go through all the update process.So the question is: how can i track down whatever is causing this random, time-to-time IE pop ups? When i do my research the term active scripting comes up all the time (for pop ups). I wonder if this is the culprit and will this thing remains active even I don't have IE windows opened.
Is there a software which can detect all the useless files left after uninstallations and files that are not being used? If so, will it be possible to delete them off without any trace?
Anyone know of an IP tracker/tracer that will trace AOL addresses to the specific city the PC is in? Most I've seen recommended here trace only to Dulles, VA.

i have shared folders on the server, and on the weekend a department group were here doing some work. next working day, i came to find out that some folders were deleted.. how is it possible to trace out who deleted the folders?.ip address, computer name, user name, etc .. can be helpfull. but how to find these information ?

Hi, I don't want Outlook Express on my system. I never used it. I recently switched from Outlook 2003 to Mozilla Thunderbird and it's way better but I still have OE files on my system after removing it in my "windows components" ptions. I guess the links are removed only.
In event viewer under application I get a warning which says trace level parameter not located in registry; default trace level used is 32. Can you please help me with this.
I'm using XP Pro SP2, and am trying to run a trace log to see which processes are starting/stopping and when. However, I get the following when I try to start the log:an't start trace log from Windows Kernel Trace provider event process creations/deletions). Error "The LOG_NAME log or alert has not started. Is it possible to track/trace down who accessed an insecure wi-fi connection using their computer or laptop? Say the MAC address of the wireless adaptor is spoofed, and the "Computer name" is not identifiable, is there any other way of tracking down someone who used an insecure wi-fi connection?
I have setup a wireless network between two computers in my office and have installed some software that will automatically backup folders on each of the two computers.It work by backing up certain folders on computer 1 to the hard disk on computer 2 and vice versa.I also have a program installed on both computers that uses the data on computer 1.simplify the process of locating the data on my network I have created virtual drives using the Map Network Drives function in Windows. However; if I start up my computer and open these programs - they can not find the drives, I have to open My Computer first and double click on the drives before the programs will read from them. I am guessing that for some reason Windows is not connecting to these drives, even though I have set them to "reconnect at logon".

I recently installed the program registery fix and i believe it has caused my Cd and DVD drives or the paths to these drives to be deleted from windows as they do not show up in my computer. I have tried the options in the following list but none of them have helped me, i'm really stuck but i can't fix the problem. - I've tried deleting the upper and lower filters but they are not in the selected registery. - I've tried a system restore but i can't go back to a previous point before the registery fix install. - I've tried unplugging the leads and restaring but this didn't help. - I've tried microsoft guided help but it couldn't find the upper and lower filters. - i beleive they are still listed in my bios but don't know exactly what i'm looking for when in bios. I don't know where to go from here, i also run alcohol 120% a virtual drive software and the registery fix has had no affected on these drives but i'm wondering if this maybe why the program registery fix deleted my actual drives becasue of the virtual drives and replaced the paths to my actual drives but i'm not sure it's just a guess. I've deleted the virtual drives and tried the steps above but i've had no luck.
My operating system is Windows XP Pro. As of yesterday all was fine, I even burned a DVD. Today "My Computer" isn't even showing my DVD/CD recorder, only showing Drive A: 3.5 Floppy. It started when I downloaded (I think) WindowsBlinds, just wanted to do some color changes. Well when I installed it, Norton came up with a Trojan. Norton Quarantined or deleted it and said no more further actions required. The install finished (windowblinds) and I tried a couple different skins and decided to uninstall it. Uninstalled with Revo Uninstaller
Dell Optiplex GX240 with Windows XP. While i was asleep my computer crashed with a blue screen. I wasn't able to copy down the error message, but on the bottom it read beginning dump of physical memory I restarted the computer and after the Dell load page it turns into a black screen reading strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility. F1 will only return to same message, and F2 leads me to setup utility. The only device that seems to be working is my A: drive. It says that my cd drive is not installed.
I'm wondering if anybody out there knows what this error is? My pc 'crashed' and told me: "Begining Dump Of Physical Memory" I'm running Windows 2000.I'll be much grateful for any 'right' reply.. since I have limited knowledge of computers.
