Bizarre Result On Deleting Unused Programs

Jul 31, 2007

I am currently using a Dell Inspiron 8600 running Windows XP(if you need more details, just say so)a few days ago, I needed some more room on my hard drive, so i started uninstalling some old programs and games I hadn't used in a while, and while I was in the "add or remove programs" anyway, I uninstalled a few things that haven't been used since I got the computer almost three years ago.

Update Capabilities / Hope Forum Is Correct?

Aug 3, 2007

I recently had a desktop tower system stolen. My XP Pro, ver 2002, svc pack 2 was duly registered through MS. My question is if the thief ever tries to update the software through MS update, can he be tracked? I have not been successful in getting quick answers from MS, but I only tried contacting them yesterday afternoon. I had the system configured for update to contact the site automatically. Unfortunately, I had the administrator functions and password access turned off, so whoever stole it can use it.To track the thief through the software id and the net? The cops obviously have better things to do than chase this down. I did turn in the serial numbers and whatnot to the cops, and they say they case the pawn shops and whatnot weekly.

Can't Uninstall Programs Through Add / Remove Programs

May 23, 2010

I am experiencing a strange problem when attempting to uninstall programs from Control Panel --> Add / Remove programs. When I attempt to uninstall a program, the corresponding programs "uninstaller", asks for a network resource. Here is an example screen shot of what I am seeing when I attempt to uninstall Ad Aware: It doesn't seem to matter what I am attempting to uninstall. In all of the uninstall scenarios that I have seen Add / Remove programs asks for an MSI file with a similar name to the program that I am attempting to uninstall.

Deleting Files

Nov 23, 2005

I have been trying to delete an old Windows file on one of my hard disks, but i never could because of the "access denied" error message. No matter what i did, they couldn't be deleted. So finally, i stumpled across a site that explained that the files need to have the right "ownership" to delete. So, i follow the instructions and set me as the owner, but it will only do that to one folder. I then have to go one by one and set the properties for each sub-folder seperatley, and there's hundreds of them. Is there any way to delete all of the files without regard to what user owns them? Or how can i make ALL files AND subfolders be set at once

Deleting Partitions?

Nov 10, 2007

Hey there, i'm currently running on Windows XP with a 120 gig Maxtor Harddrive. During my last reformat I'm guessing I did it wrong and mistakenly made a second partition while leaving the old one intact. I've checked through all my biggest storage heaps for what could be causing my HD to be so full. But my multimedia section is only 28 gigs, whereas the harddrive is showing 85 gigs worth of used space.
Multiple partitions is the only thing I can think of. So is there a way I could find out if I have an extra partition, which one is the right one to delete, and the process of deleting it, possibly without having to transfer all my files. Any help would be appreciated.

Deleting User Administrator

Following the installation of a new motherboard a new copy of Windows XP Pro was installed on my computer. I am the only user of this computer. Two user accounts were created: "Administrator" and "Peter". All my programs were reinstalled on "Peter". The computer would only reboot into "Administrator". I called back the engineer and he managed to disable "Administrator". Now when I reboot I get a dialog box telling me that "Administrator" has been disabled and asking me if I want to continue. After clicking "OK" I then get the user accounts screen, I click on "Peter" and the computer boots into "Peter". How can I get the computer to start immediately in "Peter" without all this extra malarky?
