When I try to open "My Computer" it searches for about 30-40 seconds before it finds all my drives and so on... If I open directly to another folder or anywhere else it opens right away...?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI reformatted my computer thinking it would solve the problem,it was ok for a while but while i was doing my homework my computer hang so i need to soft restart my computer,then a message appeared before the admininstration log in, it says "One of the files containing system's registry data had to be recovered by using of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful." the symptoms came back on my computer it takes a while to load all the application on the computer, i thought my previous symptom was because my computer has many corrupt files so it slows down but this time my computer was freshly reformated .It was the same message that appeared that i ignored because i thought it was ok because windows says that it was successful.now i do not know what to do.

But all the programs just say task manager.I delete them all but they come back a few hours later. I have run a virus scan with my Norton program but nothing. What is causing all this?
View 7 Replies View RelatedThis is a fairly recent problem. I have a Dell computer about 4 months old. Here's a description of the problem. I would appreciate any assistance I can get. I was going to call Dell but I've found I get better help here than Dell! My CPU will start to get louder than normal (it sounds like it is working overtime in there). At the same time, IE freezes up and pages won't load anymore. I can still use email and MSN IM normally, as well as other programs. When I check the "windows task manager," it says the CPU usage is 100%, when normally it's around 2-5% It will do this for up to an hour. Even if I reboot, after it has started up, it continues do this same thing. After it finishes whatever it is doing, CPU usage goes back down and IE works normally again. I'm afraid it might be some spybot program or something that is taking over. I can't figure out what is wrong. But I know this is a good place to come for
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy PC has slowed down considerably, so I opened the Windows Task Manager and under "Processes" there are 101 processes listed. 53 of those processes are "iexplore.exe" The "Mem Usage" listed for these varies between approximately 14,000 K to 40,000 K. I have looked at the Windows Task Manager sometimes in the past and iexplore.exe certainly wasn't listed this many times. Should I end these processes, and if so, how can I keep this from happening again?

That was a normal game and I never got a msg like this before. After a few days it was getting bigger and bigger. Now a days if i click on refresh it takes around 3-5 sec. to refresh. I have aquired a second (also very legal) copy of XP Home thru my company/MS HUP. What I'd like to do is install it on my daughter's computer's data drive D:. She's soon to be living several hundred miles from me so any problem with the computer's OS will necessitate a long trip to work on. I don't want to build a backup computer becasue it's cost is greater than I can afford right now.A full install of XP on both drives and then boot from C: or D: based on setup's boot sequence at startup. I know it'll work; I saw it done on a buddy's computer but I never learned how it worked out over time.

It tells me that two operating systems are installed and that I need to select which one I want to run. Both are windows xp home. If I choose the first one it runs fine if I choose the second one I get a message that says: Windows could not start because of a computer dis hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information.

The box opens quickly but the drives take 20 seconds to show up. I have disabled windows image aquisition service and turned off Automatically search for network drives and folders. This computer is used to connect to three different hospitals websites with citrix and other web based portals. Is it possible that some of the active x controls that make it possible for the desktop to log in securely to the hospitals have caused this issue? If so how can I fix it without a reformat.

The numlock and scroll lock keys beep and light up on and off continuosly; if I try to open any Windows programs, ALL of the Windows programs start to pop open all over the desktop; it won't even dial the internet connection, so I can't get online. It won't go on standby by itself, and if I choose standby on the shutdown menu, it goes into standby for about 5 minutes and then goes back to the desktop, even after I've logged off!
I am able to open any games or programs that aren't Microsoft without other programs popping open, but the numlock and scroll lock keys still flash and beep all the time.
I have Earthlink ISP and use their anti-virus, pop-up blocker, spyblocker, spam filter, and firewall, along with Ad-aware and Xoftspy. No viruses or spyware are found when I run them.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having some problems with my computer and cant really pinpoint the problem.the computer is a Q6600 - but when opening a program, opening a file from a program, there is always a lag, it would freeze for 5 to 10 seconds before anything happens. I suspected adware/virus, but it's not. I tried installing a fresh copy of windows XP onto a new hard drive, but the lag/slow problem is still there, usually it takes no more than 30 minutes to install windows, but it took over 1hr 30 mins to install.I am thinking hard ware issue, I've tried replacing the RAMs, but still the same, now im thinking maybe the powersupply.

I checked the graph in the performance window (Ctrl+Alt+Del) but there was no suddeny increase of CPU usage. Others folder is normal, I double click and it show nicely. Just for certain folder. Is it because of the number of files in the folder? It dont happen when I open my C: drive but if i open that particular folder. The windows explorer just stop responding.. and i had to wait for it to come out. If i access a folder under it and hit back or up, again it will stuck there again n wait for it to load.

I have recently purchased and installed a Seagate external Hard Drive. When I turn my computer on the screen remains blank. I have to turn everything off, unplug the External hard Drive and then everything operates normally. Once the computer is booted up I can reconnect the external hard Drive and all works fine. The othe rnoticeable difference ids that the computer has become very very slow to respond to commands.

Why won't they be in List?
