View 1 RepliesWhen I attempt to open the C:System Volume Information folder so I can view the contents of the _restore folder, I receive the message seen in this screenshot. If I do a "search" for the _restore folder, nothing appears.I don't recall having this problem before the hard drive was replaced and Windows XP SP2 was reinstalled from scratch.I know that System Restore is working because I've created several restore points before installing new or updated hardware drivers.
View 7 Replies View RelatedCannot see any sign of the System Volume Information folder in Explorer or any other file browser program I try. It is not grayed out, it is not there. When I enter Tools, Folder Options, View, the Show hidden files and folders is selected. As a matter of fact, if I then select Do not show hidden files and folders, the next time I open View, it has gone back to Show hidden files and folders! Even though hidden folders should therefore show, the SVI folder remains hidden. I have examined my system by booting with BartPE XPE and there is the SVI folder with all the restore points, etc. I am using XPPRO, NTFS.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to go to the system information page it goes to the Help and Support page instead. I've tried the Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools way and also tried Start/Run/msinfo32.exe and again through the HelpandSupport page and the same thing happens. Have searched the net and found other people who have the same problem and tried some suggestions but nothing has worked so far. I know I can do a re-install but don't want that route if there's no other way.

View 9 Replies View Relatedi would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of msn m. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by Internet, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently reformatted my machine and for some reason the first time i put in the recovery cd to reformat it installed windows instead of reformat. Then I put the cd in a second time and my computer was reformatted and installed windows a second time. So when i start up my computer it gives me a choice to start one of two operating systems of windows xp. Any ideas on how i can get rid one version without reformatting again. It is annoying having to choose one version every time. If you need more info or a better explanation just say so and i'll try my best.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with 2 operating systems on my computer. I had to replace the hard drive and I could not find my xp disk so I installed 2000. I then found xp and installed it as a complete install not an upgrade. It is xp pro. Now when I start the computer it goes to a black screen asking which operating system I want to use XP or 2000. I want to get 2000 off and just run XP right from the start. Can I do it without reformatting and reinstalling XP?

5 comps in total.
All running XP Pro.
They all connect to the network and internet through a net gear router. My net gear router has only 4 ports so i connected a netgear switch to one of the ports to extend it and allow another 2 connections.
One of the computers would run a server application software, and the other computers would run the client application which would connect to the server thru the LAN.
All was working fine, with no issues at all.
The problem:

Hard Drive : 160GB (7200Rpm) Serial ATAII 3Gb/s

View 7 Replies View RelatedI bought a new dell dimension 4700 for my sister and two months later it crashed. Well she spent 6 hours on the phone with dell and all they did was a half assed restore which allowed her to keep her files but everything else barely worked. She brought it to me and I formatted the drive in xp setup and reinstalled xp pro. The computer runs great but when it boots up it asks me which operating sytem I want to run; the old xp home or the new xp pro. Then when you select the xp pro it boots up but that white line goes by real slow and it takes a minute or so to boot. Once it is booted it runs like a champ but how do I get rid of the old xp pro. I don't get it since I formatted the drive and removed the old partitions.
