Trouble Accessing / C System Volume Information Folder

I'm using Windows XP SP2 Home Edition and am trying to access the C:System Volume Information folder, but I keep getting an "Access is denied" message, even after following the below directions.
1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
2. Make sure that you are in the root folder of the partition for which you want to gain access to the System Volume Information folder. For example, to gain access the C:System Volume Information folder, make sure that you are in the root folder of drive C (at a "C:" prompt).
3. Type the following line, and then press ENTER:cacls "driveletter:System Volume Information" /E /G username:F. Make sure to type the quotation marks as indicated. This command adds the specified user to the folder with Full Control permissions.
4. Double-click the System Volume Information folder in the root folder to open it.
5. If you need to remove the permissions after troubleshooting, type the following line at a command prompt:
cacls "driveletter:System Volume Information" /E /R username..This command removes all permissions for the specified user. My problem may be with step #2, as I'm not sure what to do what it says in the last sentence. How do I get to a C: prompt?

Cannot see any sign of the System Volume Information folder in Explorer or any other file browser program I try. It is not grayed out, it is not there. When I enter Tools, Folder Options, View, the Show hidden files and folders is selected. As a matter of fact, if I then select Do not show hidden files and folders, the next time I open View, it has gone back to Show hidden files and folders! Even though hidden folders should therefore show, the SVI folder remains hidden. I have examined my system by booting with BartPE XPE and there is the SVI folder with all the restore points, etc. I am using XPPRO, NTFS.

When I attempt to open the C:System Volume Information folder so I can view the contents of the _restore folder, I receive the message seen in this screenshot.If I do a "search" for the _restore folder, nothing appears.I don't recall having this problem before the hard drive was replaced and Windows XP SP2 was reinstalled from scratch.I know that System Restore is working because I've created several restore points before installing new or updated hardware drivers.

The System Volume Information Folders contain your System Restore points. You can delete all or just the oldest ones manually if you like (but they must be sequential). These folders are hidden system folders on each drive. I think I have System Volume Information virus on my laptop.Im using Norton Internet Security 2008.I using window XP home edition.Im trying to remove the files for both drive c and my partition drive thru system restore disable but when I restart still there.Can someone help me?

A folder named "System Volume Information" has been created in each drive (C:,D:,E:,F:)and consuming significant disk space day by day. Whether deleting these folders will create any problem. Any other technique to stop increasing the size of these folders ? Please suggest.Presently consuming more than 3 GB in total.
Sometimes I need system restore to speed up the PC (besides other registry tools )therefore this function is enabled in the system.

When i go to Documents and settings, i can see the inside of my own folder, the other administrator folder, my 12 years old limited-user folder - but not my 8-year old sister's limited-user folder!It pops up an "error" saying: Cocuments and settings/"Lisa" is not accessible. "No access"and it shows that the folder contains 0 byte.When I logg in to her account, then I can check what is inside.

From my XP SP2 (Media Center Edition) computer, I can access shared folders on my other computers (a Vista, a W7, and another XP computer). However, those computers cannot access shared folders on this computer (the XP SP2 machine).The shared folders are visible from the other computers, but when they attempt to access them, they get a dialog box to log in with userid and password. I have tried various combinations of userid and password, including "thiscomputernameprimaryaccountname" with the associated password. Authentication fails.I am using simple file sharing.

I am having trouble with my system. I had recently upgraded my sytem to 2 GB RAM. I click on the folder for viz. when I Click on my computer>>d: folder>file it sould go step by step. But instead of going step by step after I click on back button it directly goes to my computer instead of going like file<<folder<<d:<<my computer And also like Whenever I click on any folder or application it opens up along with the other folder and applications.

I deleted the I386 folder by mistake and had to repair the operating system...and it seems to be running fine. I had to reload a SP1 but I updated to service pack 2. But now I'm getting a "Windows cannot accessthe specified, device path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them" error. This happens when I get on IE, but it could be related to another program that runs automatically. Either way I can't do anything cause the error won't go away.

I have a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine. I can connect to remote shares by IP address, but not by name. If I do a Start, Run, \computer it says "The network path was not found."There is no server on this particaular network it's all peer-to-peer, and I've enabled NetBIOS for good luck. Nothing. I cannot ping the other machines by name, either. All other machines in the network run fine.I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling components of Network Connections, and TCP/IP is the only protocol installed. I have confirmed that all of the computers are in the same subnet and same work group.There is no firewall software installed on the machine, apart from XP SP2, and I've disabled that.

what the prime uses for a logical drive (just assigning it as the letter F: for example ) might be vs. Mounting the logical drive as an empty folder that supports drive paths?
And why someone would want to use one option vs. the latter? (common uses)

We have 7 computers at our business where I want to place some files on one of the newer ones and let the others simply access them. However, the newest computer is running Win7 64-bit pro. Some of the other computers are just Win XP pro 32-bit. If I setup a "Work Network" on the Win 7 computer where the files are located, will I be able to find them on one of the Win XP computers? Hope I am being descriptive enough. Sorry if I'm not.

When i'm on the welcome screen and click "administrator", it logs me on and immediately logs me off. it even does this in safe mode! usually in safe mode i don't even need to click on "administrator" but now i do.

I have a Win2000 network and now have around 20 new XP Pro machines on it.Every user has at least one drive mapped to one of our servers to store files Every so often, for no reason that I have figured out, when trying to access a mapped drive it hangs up and you are asked for a username and password.This happens to me with my perminatly mapped drives and new ones I make on the fly. No username or password seems to work, and the easiest way to get it to work correctly is to reboot. This only happens with the XP machines.

It did not come with Windows installed, but came with the Windows SP1 disc and drivers and such. I installed all those, and was off to a great start. But a few hours later, I discovered I couldn't open System Restore, System Information, or Windows Media Player. Since these are all applications that come with Windows, I figured I must have messed up the installation. Being on moderately knowledgeable about computers, many times, my solution is to simply reinstall a program. So, I figured, I have this installation disc still sitting here from just a few hours ago, why not just give it another go?

My Desktop screen seems to be booting twice. I want to check and see if that is true and if any other system programs are booting twice during initial bootup. How do I access the Master Boot List, or System Startup Menu, whatever you may call the list the OS uses to Start the system up when it boots.

My system was working fine until I installed XP SP2. I am having trouble with a Blue Screen Error "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" I believe NVGTS.SYS is the culprit ? I have had to boot in safe made with network to come here to try and get help. Can someone please give me a suggestion as to what might be the issue? I am trying to install this on a new system build, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz, EVGA NForce 780i SLI, 2 gigs of OCz DDR 2 800, Nvidia 8800GTS (G92) 512mb 256-bit GDDR3 PCI-E 2.0 x-16, WD 74 gig Raptor, Liteon 20X DVDR. I had a problem with my external hard drive…which I informed you guys about. I was advised to solve the problem (potentially) using chkdsk on the drive. It worked to an extent Some, in fact the majority of files were recovered. However the problem remains in that not all files were recovered and NOW one file…when clicked on to gain access I am told that the drive is not formatted and would I like to format it now. Of course, I would not as the information is important. I enclose a copy of my previous letter to give you a full spectra of the saga.I am having problems with an external hard drive I purchased about a year ago. Files seem to be disappearing. I have a file which contained about 12gb of information (music files etc). The file now only has 88mb of information. It is the top part of the files but as you can see is only a raction of what it used to be. What has happened to the files? I have done a search in the drive…and no sign of them. Also, the system information does not register any
increase on the ‘free space’ of the drive. I am at a loss. What is happening? Can I retrieve the files? It is really punishing to think that they may be lost to me for good.
