View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently reformatted my machine and for some reason the first time i put in the recovery cd to reformat it installed windows instead of reformat. Then I put the cd in a second time and my computer was reformatted and installed windows a second time. So when i start up my computer it gives me a choice to start one of two operating systems of windows xp. Any ideas on how i can get rid one version without reformatting again. It is annoying having to choose one version every time. If you need more info or a better explanation just say so and i'll try my best.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with 2 operating systems on my computer. I had to replace the hard drive and I could not find my xp disk so I installed 2000. I then found xp and installed it as a complete install not an upgrade. It is xp pro. Now when I start the computer it goes to a black screen asking which operating system I want to use XP or 2000. I want to get 2000 off and just run XP right from the start. Can I do it without reformatting and reinstalling XP?

It won't let me reformat either drive (so I could just re-install.) XP is not listed in the progams, so I can't just uninstall it. It won't even boot from the CD drive (Although I've set it that way in set up.) I want just XP and would like it all redone. How do I do it?

Windows 2000 is currently causing problems in that mouse movement is delayed, and also the shutdown process is lengthy, followed by a blank blue screen, sometimes not shutting down at all.As I would prefer to make a clean install of XP Pro it would be great to get rid of the former operating systems. Can anyone advise on how to go about this?

Well she spent 6 hours on the phone with dell and all they did was a half assed restore which allowed her to keep her files but everything else barely worked. She brought it to me and I formatted the drive in xp setup and reinstalled xp pro. The computer runs great but when it boots up it asks me which operating sytem I want to run; the old xp home or the new xp pro. Then when you select the xp pro it boots up but that white line goes by real slow and it takes a minute or so to boot. Once it is booted it runs like a champ but how do I get rid of the old xp pro. I don't get it since I formatted the drive and removed the old partitions.

1. Seen as I'm installing two operating systems is there anything I need to do extra to if I was just installing one. For instance which directory I install them both in etc.
2. Could someone either link me to a very simple and detailed guide on installing Windows XP Professional or else write out there own guide for me. Remember it needs to be easy to understand, I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to computers.
Is it possible to have 2 operating systems on 1 computer? I installed XPPro over Win98 and I think that I have both OS on the computer. I am very short on real-estate.

I installed two installations of windows xp on accident on my laptop hard drive.I tried to do a repair install but the cd I used was a silent install cd for windows and I forgot it was.So I ended up with two windows XP installs on my hard drive, both on partition C.The folders on the C drive are C:WINDOWS and C:WINDOWS.0. Both load with its own set of programs for it, one has games and other software on it, the other has basic software on the install CD. Both had firefox on it which caused problems with firefox losing my settings/links and not keeping them.I have thunder bird email on my 2nd installation but I can't access it with my first windows install. What I want to do is delete the 2nd version of windows which I don't use. I am not sure if its C:WINDOWS or C:WINDOWS.0.The newer one shows up first in the OS menu when I first boot my computer.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have aquired a second (also very legal) copy of XP Home thru my company/MS HUP. What I'd like to do is install it on my daughter's computer's data drive D:. She's soon to be living several hundred miles from me so any problem with the computer's OS will necessitate a long trip to work on. I don't want to build a backup computer becasue it's cost is greater than I can afford right now.A full install of XP on both drives and then boot from C: or D: based on setup's boot sequence at startup. I know it'll work; I saw it done on a buddy's computer but I never learned how it worked out over time.

All on one hard drive, different partitions, of course.I installed Windows ME ( not sure what gave me that brilliant idea)and now my boot menu is messed up. It initially eliminated 98 and put Windows ME there, so I added 98 back, but if I choose 98 it still goes to ME, which is on an external hard drive. I installed ME by booting with a 98 bootdisk with cdrom support, and installed ME to the external drive. Is there any way of getting my 98 boot option back? 98 is still on my main drive, I can see it, I just can't boot to it
