My friend has a dell computer with the latest version of windows xp.his system moves very,very,very slow.thats why I'm trying to get help for him on my computer.i do not know much about xp.we have ran registry cleaner and virus scan and i am not getting any error messages.it is a 2 gig system.
View 3 Repliesso i recently got sum serious ad pop ups on my comp, think it was about 10 a min at sum points! anyways wen i pulled the internet plug out my comp, i started to get 'cant work offline, connect, tryagain' These were popin were poppin up in extreme amounts aswell. I was doin sum work at the time on the comp, so i figured a quick and easy (TEMPORARY*) solution for the promblem would be to try and find the process and delete it. I deleted one process to many, by deleting a system process. I didnt think much of it at the time, but when i restarted my computer all that would load is the desktop backround and the mouse (no start menu, or desktop shortcuts). I can bring up the windows task manager, but it aint much good to me as aint got a clue how to fix my probelm

My questions amongst many is that some of the related help files said add my current administrator account to the "power users" group. That way it will be a member of both group how would that work exactly and would it make a difference in terms of security?

For the past 2 days, whenever I launch Internet Explorer (version 6) or the Control Panel, the Windows Installer launches first with a "preparing to install" message. This message will display for 2 minutes or so and then the Internet Explorer or Control panel window will be displayed. This is extremely annoying. Occasionally, when I attempt to print from Internet Explorer, the Windows Installer will also launch first and behave the same way. I have spent a day searching for a solution and the only thing I have found so far is a reference to a Windows Installer Cleanup utility
View 7 Replies View RelatedUsually if I'm having trouble with Windows XP, I can boot into Safe Mode and run some tests and usually a rollback of the system settings work.But I can't even enter into safe mode. My computer completely restarts after flashing a BSOD for 5 milliseconds and then restarts. Then, when it actually starts installing whatever game I try, Winamp plays at half speed, pops and hiccups, and becomes unlistenable. Firefox takes between 10 and 30 seconds to load an instance, and typing is slow, and shows up on screen in bursts. Furthermore, even my System sounds (right clicking, for example) become slow and broken.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI ALT+CTRL+DEL to bring up my processes and i noticed at the bottom of that window that SYSTEM IDLE PROCESS is taking up 80-99% so i watch it for awhile and it doesnt go down at all, the lowest i seen it was 77%.Now i have about 30-40 things running in the Background not a problem for my computer. I have 2 Gigs of RAM should be more then enough. but this process is really slowing me down.

I have replaced the mother board, doubled the RAM, wiped clean the Hard Disk and reloaded all software the problem still exists. Is it possible that the CPU fails such that it cannot cope with the load, but continues to operate inefficiently, or is the failure mode of a CPU such that it will not operate totally?

View 5 Replies View RelatedHaving a major problem with svchost.exe. Everytime I restart the computer an instance of svchost.exe uses a new PID and takes up 95-100% of cpu. I have to find the instance and then "end the process" to use the computer. I have scanned with PCtools antivirus, PCtools spyware, AVG antivirus, Pctools maestro, registry booster 2. All spyware and malware have been removed according to those programs. Registry has been cleaned, defragged and compressed. Still have the same problem.
My computer is very slow, so I run a Hijackthis on it. Figured you guys could tell me what to have fixed.
