I ran a recovery on my computer and now I get a message, "NTLDR is Compressed press atl. ctrl. del to restart." When I restart it gives the same message each time.
View 7 RepliesI just reformatted my 20G HD. I have an Intel D845GLLY motherboard with a Pentium 4 processor. When I try to load Windows XP Pro from the installation disk it says "NTLDR is missing", so either it is not on my installation cd, or most likely the files are corrupt. I got my XP Pro from the MSDAA; I am in school to be a Computer Forensic Specialist. So, I got a floppy disk and copied NTLDR, NTDETECT, and boot.ini to it. When I put the floppy in my computer though, it says that it is not bootable. How do I get those (3) files on my computer that has been formatted? Are there other files that I need on my floppy.
I was getting the message "ntldr is missing-press any key to restart". I was able to fix that through trail and error. After I restarted my computer I got the message "disc error". Would someone be able to help out. I am running Windows XP.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo i'm getting this error msg when I boot up Windows XP.Disc Read Error Press CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart. I do it but then it just comes up with that screen again.I have tried countless of times but it doesn't want to seem to work.This started happening after a game crash. Of artifacting and overheating and all that. So right now i'm using Ubuntu but it sucks. I hate it. I'm getting artifacts all over the screen. It's driving me insane. I can't seem to go into Windows Safe Mode either like trying to press F8 and all that. Otherwise, I would have tried to do a System Restore.
View 14 Replies View RelatedWhen resuming from hibernate or standby it made a clunking noise like it was trying to find something and then displays: Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to Restart. Sometimes it worked, others not. I then found that it was displaying the NTLDR error so I backed up everything did a destructive recovery and started doing all the new updates for Windows, etc. Seemed to be working fine and then I added two additional hard drives (one for backup and the other for recording TV). I sent it to hibernate and the next day I tried to startup and couldn't get the OS to load at all. I finally did a recovery to one of the other hard drives. I did all the updates, added some new programs and set Media Center to record. I put the machine in hibernate and left. When I returned the machine was on and the TV recording was executed as programmed. I put the machine in hibernate again last night and when I awoke the machine was running. I had not set a recording so I'm wondering why it would spontaneously restart for no apparent reason.

Suddenly tonight I have what appears to be a DOS screen that says "A Disk Read Error Occurred. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart". After doing a ctrl alt delete, I keep getting the same screen again. After re booting, I received the error message NTLDR is compressed Press C tl+Alt+Del.. The fix is to go to a command line and enter attrib -c ntldr . When I do this I get the message that -c is an invalid switch. In looking through other material I do not see where c is a switch for the attrib command, but I can see where it could be used to "turn off compression" in ntldr. What am I missing here.Last year I did something similar, not this specifically, and it worked for a compressed disk problem.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi brought a new advent 7109b in february this year ,,all was fine till yesterday it just went slow then real wierd ive been trying to sort it but it wasnt getting any better so i did system recover today which is built into the system ,but im horrified it now wont boot im just getting the error saying NTLDR IS COMPRESSED ,,,press ctlr alt and delete ,,but it just keeps restarting.
i have no xp cd it didnt come with one as its all built in.
My friend was getting the error message: ntldr compressed.
So, I booted from the Windows CD and entered the Repair utility and run the following:
cd attrib -c ntldr exit
Computer is an HP pavilion notebook zd7000. XP Pro. HP recovery does not seem to be an option on this notebook. I did have this pc in for repair once before as user loves to download music, etc.. and I do remember having to load format and load from the xp cd.

It might work in Home Edition or other versions.If you do this, then you will get the "Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to begin" box when you turn on your computer, before it asks for your username and password. It also asks for you to press Ctrl-Alt-Del before you can unlock your computer if you lock it. This is done by default in Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003.

View 7 Replies View Relatedi Bought a new Motherboard, processor and power supply and then used the rest of what i already had and built the computer. i booted up and it starts goin through the P.O.S.T and gets to the bit where it say about DMI Pool Varifing (or something like that) and then says NTLDR is Missing Pres Cnrl, Alt, Del to Restart. iv tried booting from cd with windows in to reformat, but still says the same.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy computer will not shut down. When I hit the "start" button and then select "shutdown" it goes through all of the motions, but then it reboots. It is almost as though it thinks that I am hitting the "restart" button instead of the "shutdown" button. When I followed the checklist in Windows, it suggested a restore point. I tried that but it said that I had made no changes to the computer since that restore point and therefore I could not use the restore point technique.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just now installed the KDE Cygwin (kde-cygwin)for Windows on my Win XP SP2 machine. However, upon restart I am now receiving the message "NTLDR Missing". I have tried following the instruction found on numerous forums and at computerhope.com but I continue to receive the same message every restart. This is what I have done so far: Restarted with the Win XP CD-ROM and went to the Recovery Console. Logged into my C: drive using the admin password. Copied "F:i386NTLDR" and "F:i386NTDETECT.com" to the root of my C drive. Ran "bootcfg /rebuild" and then "fixboot". After doing all of the above I restarted and am still met with the "NTLDR Missing" message. Again I booted back into the Recovery Console and checked to see what had been written into the boot.ini file using "bootcfg /list" and this is what I got:

Does this look right?? I tried typing the "fixmbr" command in and was met with the message, "This computer appears to have a non-standard or invalid master boot record." which was followed the threat that if I continued then I might lose all of the data on my drive, which is not an option for me. I am trying to avoid the need run a "repair installation" from the Win XP boot CD. That would require a lot of PITA work to update Windows back to SP2 and reinstall a bunch of other apps.
I have stupidly moved some files on my C drive that my pc requires to boot up. Now i can't get it to boot at all and can't get into safe m I am getting the NTLDR missing, press ctrl + alt + delete to restart.I have looked on google and can't seem to get it fixed.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy computer has recently started giving me an error message that says "A disk read error occurred. Press CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart." during startup. The first time this came up I took it into the repair shop the morning after. They turned the computer on, it started normally, and after keeping it overnight they returned it to me saying that they could find nothing wrong with it.It worked normally for about 2 days after that and then when I was using it the system suddenly became unresponsive. I was forced to turn it off via the button on the front of my tower, and when I turned it back on the disk read error message came back up.
The next morning when I turned it on it was fine.
When I start up, I get a black screen with this: Disk read error occurred Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart So I do. Same thing happens. I don't have any CDs or anything in the drive. The computer had also been shutting down randomly on me prior to this.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI probably have a familiar problem that I don't have the answer to I was running PC Tools registry cleaner ("Register Mechanic")when we had a power outage When I restarted the computer it wouldn't boot(black screen) message press Ctrl,Alt Del.master boot record is missing I don't have an installation Disk (OEM install) I tried to reinstall the Operating system (Vista Home Premium)from the D Partition and find that the recovery partition was blank I do not know if I deleted or transposed it but the system cannot find it I have since tried to repair the C disk by way of Active Partition Recovery with no success
View 2 Replies View RelatedWell I seem to have encountered a problem numerous other people have encountered and well im rather desperate to fix it though i must list 2 important details
1. I have a HP- Pavilion Windows XP mediacenter edition.
2. My recovery mode does not work and my computer never came with a recovery disc of any sort (grrrr stupid idea to put the recovery on the computer IMO)
3. I have little money to spend as of right now. Buying a new computer not an option and buying a new windows operating system is MAYBE a option but one ide like to avoid.
4. Im more curious as to how i should tackle this. Ive read up on a few sites found a site that gives a bootable disc containing the NTLDR file ( I dont know a whole lot about this stuff)
This is all just very aggrivating for me. My computer works and runs better than most new computers despite bieng 4 years old. This is the first issue ive had with it in awhile other than my recovery not working due to a error about a hive file not working ( i figured ide make a seperate thread if i choose to worry about this issue but if some one finds this to be a important detail please do tell me) Also ive looked into purchasing the spotmau disc for it 'adervtises' it is able to fix this problem. How reliable they are i am not sure of how ever.
Trying to start my computer and it gets to the screen where it gives me 2 seconds to press F11 to start recovery. But after 2 seconds or pressing F11 or any key, another line appears saying the same thing "Press F11 to start recovery". Can't get past this point and start Windows. HD is recognized in another computer as well as in BIOS.

I have since moved... just set up the system and am getting the same error except this time shutdown/restart isn't working ( The OTHER problem I realize is this... this is a tempory move! Most everything I own is in a storage unit, boxes to the back, furniture to the front and guess where my disks are? Right! I put printer, shredder, disks, everything I didn't just HAVE to have in the storage unit.
been trying to put xp pro over home edition but disk may be faulty.it keeps coming up fatal error and restarts but i dont want to do a recovery and need to know if there is a way to get pc started without it going into xp pro setup.i have files on pc that i dont want to lose.
