when i send a print job from a Windows XP computer, i do not see the printer icon that used to appear on the bottom right hand conner of the screen (where the time is displayed). What setting could have gone wrong?
I have a printer installed but when i try to print it keeps saying if i want to install the printer. And when i click yes it says: Operation could not be completed And when i try to delete my printer it says: Printer cannot be removed. The Print Spooler service is not running. And then i click RUN i type in services.msc and enter. Down the services list i go to Print Spooler and double click it. It says "Service status: Stopped". Well then i click start and after bout 10 seconds it goes back to stopped again
printer was not printing every other page as it used to do so I called Epson. The Tech had me uninstall my Epson printer with add remove and also from device manager. Then he had me download the latest printer drivers from Epson and them the subject title error message came up. The balance of the error message is: C:WindowsSystem32Autoexec.NT System file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows Applications. Chose Close or Ignore
Does anyone know what the problem could be with my printers not printing out envelopes? They will print out a letter but not envelopes though they act like they are printing but nothing prints when they come out in the tray? And, yes I have ink! LOL! Just curious as to what could be the problem.
My printer (Dell A940 All in One) is possessed. It is printing huge blue bars over all colour images and text. Here's a picture. Is there something broken with the printer or does the cartridge need to be replaced?
I have a dell 2400 series PC running XP home edition. My Dell A920 printer stopped working. When I uninstalled and tried to reinstall it, I couldn't get it to reinstall properly. I used the original CD and I also downloaded a driver from dell.com. Neither worked. I tried to install a new Samsung ML-2010 printer. I used the included CD. It finished the install and when I tried to print the test page, it wouldn't print. It appears in the print queue as "printing" but never prints. When I reboot, I see a message on the system tray saying new hardware detected, there was trouble on the install and new device may not work correctly. I tried to do a repair from the enclosed Samsung CD but it didn't fix the problem. When it tried to print the test page, it said "not responding" in the blue bar across the top of the page
How do i get rid of the stupid little printer icon in my taskbar? it is a network printer (set up on another ocmputer and im networked with that computeR)
After looking at the display settings and closing them, my icon disappeared. A file search on all *.cpl files show that the display.cpl file still exists and I can create a shortcut to the desktop and run the program. But, I'd like my icon back.I believe the problem was created by having all my icons underlined so I only have to do a single Left click to bring up the program.
I've winxp Home with SP2 system, yesterday my daughter had installed the program 'MS Plus' from the XP Installation CD which was not installed earlier in the machine. My OS is original, but to-day on opening the system I'm seeing that the icon of Hard Drive(E : Drive)to which the program was installed went missing and in its place another icon (which generally represents for any unidentified file) has taken its place.
System: XP Professional recently authenticated with MS GWA (cdrom enroute) was a ?pirated? copy
I have gone as far as I am comfortable with to locate and install the required .dll files. I authenticated the Windows XP. I downloaded 21 updates. I installed XPmedic, emailed them for support, and no response after 4 days. Below is the contents of the screen that stops the HP printer installation.

I lost the printer icon on my taskbar for an Epson ,anyone know how to get it back? Using Windows XP,haven't seen an error message Dell tech(??) suggested reinstalling software, which didn't help. The icon is still missing in action,it was there a few days ago.
Every time I start my computer, I have to go to the control panel and go to sound settings to put the volume control icon in the taskbar next to the clock. It use to load automatically but quit. How can I get the volume control icon to stay in the taskbar without having to go to the control panel to add it each time I start my computer?
I ahve been trying to get the volume icon back on my taskbar so I can raise and lower the volume. I went to the notification area where you can choose to place the icon on the taskbar, but it's greyed out and I can't change the gray so that I can highlight. The compaq people have me uninstall a driver and that didn't help. We selected default setting s and that didn't help. I found instructions on Microsoft.help but they work only if you've got the cd. My Windows XPHome ed. was preinstalled.
My cd rom has disappeared from my computer. Icon is gone as well as Device manager. I tried deleting the upper and lower filters as told in other discussions- but the right hand window pane under registry is blank. I tried to create a date to try a system restore- but its like the calender is frozen.
A Dell Dimension 2400 PC with XP-Home on it. I just notice the My Computer icon is missing from my desktop. How do I restore this icon? Also, how do I eliminate all those pesky little "balloons' that pop up along my taskbar. I am the only 1 using this PC and this little balloon notification are annoying.
I was using my computer, when suddenly my Internet connection dropped. I tried reconnecting it, but it didn't work. The network icon on the taskbar disappeared. I went to Network Connections, and my connection wasn't there. I couldn't get the connection back. I've scanned my computer for viruses, but nothing came up.
The "safe to remove hardware" icon is missing from the task tray. When a USB device (flash drive) is plugged in there is no way to safely unplug it. I have tried run>RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll> and sometime this will allow me to safely unplug a device, but not always. HP suggest reformatting the hd, but I prefer not to do this. Any suggestions?
I am running Windows XP Professional with SP2. Windows Firewall is installed, as is, the excellent, Nod32 Antivirus.
I lost the Safely Remove Hardware icon and also the Volume Control icon from the Notification area of the System Tray. I do not recollect why or how this came about.
I realized that the SRH icon can be made to show up in the System Tray by:
Click on Start/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices and placing a check mark in the 'Place volume icon on the task bar' check box.
This immeditely places the two icons referred to above in the System Tray.....
I don't know what I did I think it was yesterday and I was rearranging the start menu.but now a whole bunch of icon images are missing and even if I right click into properties the box to change the icon is greyed out. I don't know what to do.now 3/4 of all my shortcut icon images are gone, and all my office documents, etc. are just the standard window icon. What do I do?
I have a DELL 8100 with WIN XP Pro installed.Recently the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the sys-tray has disappeared. How can I retrieve it and, in the meantime, can I safely disconnect USB equipt. without first shutting down?
I have a windowsxp operating system.Last week I noticed the volume icon missing in the system Tray as well as all other icons. The only one left is Norton icon. When I open the task bar and go into customize notifications all the icons are either folders or icons.Example volume has the picture of a folder.Norton has a lexmark icon.Lexmark has a folder icon.Real message center has a volume icon.I have been trying all week to remedy this problem.Ran Norton and Adware.Nothing.Has anyone in the forum run into this problem before and if so how did you fix it.
I can't get my volume icon to appear on the task bar, although I have created a short cut to sndvol32.exe, and that will control my volume. In addition, going to the control panel, Sound and Audio Devices will not cause it to appear on the task bar. This is a difficult problem that I have worked on for months One source suggested conducting a repair reinstall of the Windows XP Media Center Edition software. I have made some registry edits previously, and this may be part of the problem.
Whenever I start my computer the volume icon is missing from the notification area. When I go to the volume options there is a tick in the box that says 'Place volume icon in taskbar.' But if I take the tick out and click apply and the put the tick back in and click apply, it reappears. However the next time I start my computer, it has disappeared again.
My internet options icon has gone missing in control panel when I click on it in tools in internet explorer nothing happens. I have tried a few spyware scans nothing significant found, also one system restore to the previouse day internet options did not appear. I am on windows xp pro anyone know where my internet options has gone and how do I get it back?
Unil this morning i could click on a little "up" arrow on the right side (not extreme right) of my taskbar to display a pop up list of my desktop icons. I could then click on the 1 i wanted. it was very convenient because i didn't have to close all my windows to see the icons. The arrow suddenly disappeared & everything became different & i don't know why.
In the last few months my volume icon does not load in the system tray most of the time on boot up.I have it selected to show in the task bar properties and the control panel. For the life of me I can't figure out how to get this icon back. I have to bring up the Master Volume Panel to change volume settings. This is a real pain most of the time, as all I want to do is stop a web site from playing some anoying music or turn the volume back on when I need it.
