whenever i play anything with sound the audio is distorted and scratchy. i have no clue how to fix it...i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the audio driver but that has not corrected the problem. as far as i know i am using a realtek audio driver thats built into my motherboard. i dont know if it matters but i am using a dell inspiron e1505.
View 5 RepliesIm Using Windows Media Player 10 and When i play a dvd i get no sound and distorted video like a roll of film being exposed to sunlight. It may have somthing to do with overlays. The video problem started after i installed the latest 6800 Ultra drivers. All media players have the Video distortion. Distortion does not happen when i play video of my HDDs.

They play Ok on my laptop and sound is OK just image.I am running Windows XP home, service 2, on a P41800, 512mbRAM and Nvidia 128mb GeForce FX5200. I have recently installed SP2 but not sure if has coincided with this problem or not. I have the latest version of Windows Media Player and all the XP updates from Windows Update. Also have latest Nvidia drivers
View 4 Replies View RelatedLately when I have gone to play java games, at sites like pogo and some other I have not been able to do so. As soon as the game starts to load, the browser crashes. I have both Firefox 1.5.0.6 and the most recent version of IE and the same thing happens in both cases. It has always worked before, and no changes have been made to the system recently. I have SUN Java and it says it is the most recent version when I check for updates.

Every now and then, sometimes when selecting Media player, I get a BSOD with the following error.DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Stop: 0x00000001 Cmaudio.sys Address F73DE878 Base F73CB000 the only thing I can pick up on is the cmaudio.sys part which is something to do with my soundcard, but thats as far as I can get with it.

I have used windows media player9, windows media player classic and nero. The video box opens fine and playback occurs on the laptop but I get a purple screen in the video box on the tv. resolution has been changed from 600x800 to 1024x768 with no change in video display.

View 11 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2. Computer is a Dell Dimension 4600. The computer has a Samsung CDRW/DVD SM352F drive with SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio. I believe all this is a stock setup. When I put a DVD in the drive, it plays the video but there is no sound. I checked in Windows and it said the CD/DVD device is working correctly and the SoundMax is working correctly, too. The device works OK with data CDs and plays audio CDs OK as well. In Settings in Media Center for the DVD it says 2 speaker stereo is enabled with Vocal Options set to Both. I tried the DVD on another similarly configured computer and it didn't work there, either.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis all started out that I was having a microphone audio recording problem the other day and was trying to solve that...A couple of days ago, I did a complete HP System Restore on my computer to try to fix the problem, not realizing that it would do all that it did to my computer. Im having to re-install alot of my programs, etc. Now When Im trying to watch a video online, if I click the 'full screen' view it comes up just totally white screen with no picture at
all.
1. Whenever I play a game on my machine (such as Zuma, Rocket Mania), I get "system has encountered a problem" errors or blue screen crashes. There is no consistency in the errors that I or my husband can see.
I have:
1. downloaded and reinstalled Audio and Video drivers (many times), including reverting backwards
2. run disc clean, System Mechanics clutter clean, spybot, internet clean--if I do these and then boot, the games will run (sometimes).
3. deleted and physically relocated the page file (which is set to max--4096)
4. done full virus scan, registry clean, adscan---my machine is so clean it squeeks
2. Keyboard is freezing when I'm typing (either online or off--doesn't matter which program either). The display stops and I can keep typing. After maybe 10 seconds, the screen catches up. I have deleted and reinstalled my keyboard.
3. I have lost my system sound but have sound on all games (except one).
I am getting video, but its not playing the audio

I tried the Fan in Comcast, it plays the videos, but no sound. I tried a DVD. No sound. I ran the troubleshooter. No help. No music in Windows Media Player either.There are so many devices on this laptop. I do get the sound when windows opens and closes. I have had sound on the Fan video clips and Windows Media Center in the past. I recently completed the Window authenticity.
View 22 Replies View RelatedMy computer has recently started playing the System Notification sound that is defined as Windows XP Balloon.wav in the Sounds and Audio Device Properties at seemingly random intervels, and I cannot seem to find out what application is triggering the playing of this sound. I am sure it is this sound specifically as I changed it up and the change was reflected in the sound that was playing. I have also been checking the event viewer under Administrative tools and haven't noticed any events that correspond with the issue at hand. It's slowly driving me crazy! I have heard a ton of good stuff about your forums and thought I would give it a try.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have successfully cloned my primary c partition of a dual boot system with XP Pro on the 1st primary partition c: and XP Pro on the 2nd primary partition as d: I can boot into my XP on the c: drive with no problem, but when I attempt to boot into my XP on the D drive it hangs on the blue screen right before booting into the user profiles. And believe it or not it continuously loops making the windows startup sound and the shutdown sound. It does the same in safe mode. I will try to explain the process on what I did so it can help you experts figure out this dilemma

my computer freezes when I play some video games and also when I play AVI files (if I play mpeg files they work just fine, no freezing at all) But the thing is when I play games or AVI files my computer will freeze randomly (5 minutes, 30 minutes, just randomly sometimes it won't freeze at all) I don't know if it's the memory or not.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI turn on my computer and everything looks fine at first.I see my desktop properly.Then when I try to play any movie files the image that it projects is sort of chopped up. I also happend to notice that when I browse some webpages JPG images appear distorted as well.Then when I try to play video files such as WMV, AVI, MPG and more... some of them appear distorted AND the audio sounds horrible.It's all scratchy like.But MP3s work fine as do WMAs... I'm so totally lost. I've tried a system restore, restarting my computer, changing my video properties (i.e. 32bit to 16bit and even lowering resolution) none of those worked.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI had a 25 min VHS tape that I needed copied to a DVD pronto for my boss. I brought it down to a video duplication place and they burned me a DVD for me. When I brought it back to the office there were some peculiar things happening with the audio:
1) I could not open the DVD video with Windows Media Player (heavily distorted audio) or Real Player (wouldn't open at all).
2) I could open it with "Nero Showtime" (I guess this is like a file player) with good audio and no distortion.
we cant change the display depth below 16bit. we can only see windows in safe mode it just shows a garbled screen in normal mode

After a while my sound will cut out and when I try to play things in Winamp or anything it will stay stuck @ 0:00The sounds will sputter for a second and then freeze. Everything else is working fine, good audio for all playbacks.I don't have a system speaker attached to the motherboard. I tried to reinstall them, but it says There was a problem installing this hardware: Intel 82801AA AC'97 Audio Controller. An error occured during the installation of the device. The data is invalid.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a refurbished computer from Fry's Electronics. It seemed like a very good deal, so I went ahead and took it along with others who were taking them.
I finally got my internet up and I began to play Counter-strike. The sound sometimes messes up. I can hear other peoples shots just fine, but when I shot, it is almost silent.
This started last night, the only thing that I did that was out of the ordinary was ran Avast's thourough scan fully, but even after that my sound worked, so it didnt delete the driver to my knowlege, but when I do a dxdiag and look at my audio, it doesn't exist, there is no sound card installed, and allI use is my DFI Lan Party UT RDX200 CF-DR mother boards on board sound. I tried installing the driver again fom DFI and to no success, now when I went to install the drive again, I got an error saying that this device isnt approved by Windows. Could windows be preventing my audio card from working?
