Aug 30, 2005Downloaded SP2 for Windows XP Home and immediately lost all video (not audio) in both Real Player and Windows Media Player. Removed each of these and reloaded "fresh" version - same problem. Then removed SP2 and presto - video returns.

Sep 18, 2007Having recently had someone else using my computer for a while, installing various software (like winamp and SubEdit player) it seems windows media player (that's what I use) no longer recognises the usual files as media files like .mp3 .wmv .m3u .avi etc etc so when I click open file and select "media files (all types)" in the file type box it shows nothing, so I have to change it to all files which is irritating. Media player still plays everything fine but this is pretty annoying.

Nov 15, 2006On my Dell Inspiron 700 laptop, (with intel integrated graphics) wmp crashes when playing wmv files. The laptop is running windows xp home with sp2. I have no problems using winamp playing .wmv files. I have tried upgrading to IE7 and installing Windows Media Player 11 and it does not resolve it. I even tried uninstalling wmp 11, and then uninstalling/re-installing windows media player 10 and it still doesn't fix the problem.

May 24, 2007My hard drive recently got corrupted and I had to install WP XP Home, instead of XP Professional that I had previously. After installation and downloading WMP, I was unable to play any MPEG files that previously worked. WMP gives me the following error - C00D11B1. Even the files thumbnails dont look the same (currently look like generic files). However, the MPEGs work fine when I play them in Quicktime and even iTunes. I downloaded/bought a plug-in from the WMP website which I think gives me MPEG-2 decoder/DVD software etc. However, I think that relates to DVD play etc, while I am more concerned about the videos from my Sony Digital Camera which still dont work. Am I missing any drivers etc that I need to download? Btw music files work fine, and this only relates to videos.

Left-clicking on a message should open a WMP 10 window and play the message. The problem is that it works sporadically. One minute I can play a message fine, then I'll try playing another one and it might play fine, but it might not. If not, the bottom of the window says ''connecting...'' and nothing happens.
If I right-click on a message to get a menu that includes, ''save target as'' and choose this option, I get a ''file download'' window that says ''getting file information''. Then either a ''save as'' (?) window is displayed or the ''file download'' window gets stuck saying ''getting file information.''

Oct 20, 2008I am running windows XPSP3 with windows media player 11. For some reason I cannot play wmv or avi files. I get the audio but no video. This is true for any media player that I have tried. I have re installed both the media player and windows to no avail. I have checked the codecs and seem to have the most common ones (see below) I ran GSpot on one of the files and it said that I had the proper codec, yet it still won't play. Transparent Image Over A Video In Media Player - OS
Jul 9, 2008i have an image (bmp, jpg) size 800X600 its RGB color is 16,0,16. If I play a video in windows media player and then open the image with windows picture viewer, the image becomes transparent and the video can be seen. this always happens for the first video. If I have many videos lined up to run in a sequence, on some computers the transparency remains through out the duration of all the video, while on some machines every alternate video can be seen. An idea why the same happens. I need the video to be seen always with the image over it as a small part of the image contains a logo in white color.
