I've upgraded to WMP10, I've downloaded the decoder checkup thingy, I also have ULEAD DVD player and get no sound. I've run and completed suggestions from XP's troubleshooter. Video plays fine-looks great...no sound.
View 11 RepliesRunning Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2. Computer is a Dell Dimension 4600. The computer has a Samsung CDRW/DVD SM352F drive with SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio. I believe all this is a stock setup. When I put a DVD in the drive, it plays the video but there is no sound. I checked in Windows and it said the CD/DVD device is working correctly and the SoundMax is working correctly, too. The device works OK with data CDs and plays audio CDs OK as well. In Settings in Media Center for the DVD it says 2 speaker stereo is enabled with Vocal Options set to Both. I tried the DVD on another similarly configured computer and it didn't work there, either.
View 9 Replies View Related1. Whenever I play a game on my machine (such as Zuma, Rocket Mania), I get "system has encountered a problem" errors or blue screen crashes. There is no consistency in the errors that I or my husband can see.
I have:
1. downloaded and reinstalled Audio and Video drivers (many times), including reverting backwards
2. run disc clean, System Mechanics clutter clean, spybot, internet clean--if I do these and then boot, the games will run (sometimes).
3. deleted and physically relocated the page file (which is set to max--4096)
4. done full virus scan, registry clean, adscan---my machine is so clean it squeeks
2. Keyboard is freezing when I'm typing (either online or off--doesn't matter which program either). The display stops and I can keep typing. After maybe 10 seconds, the screen catches up. I have deleted and reinstalled my keyboard.
3. I have lost my system sound but have sound on all games (except one).
I am getting video, but its not playing the audio

It appears the solution was found on a different forum however I have a problem with their answer and was hoping someone here could clear it up for me as I have had lots of luck here before Here is the thread from the other forum
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba laptop M115-S3094 Satellite with Windows Media It's less than a year old.In the beginning it ran great. Now I can't get any audio. I tried the Fan in Comcast, it plays the videos, but no sound. I tried a DVD. No sound. I ran the troubleshooter. No help. No music in Windows Media Player either.There are so many devices on this laptop. I do get the sound when windows opens and closes. I have had sound on the Fan video clips and Windows Media Center in the past. I recently completed the Window authenticity.
View 22 Replies View Relatedwhenever i play anything with sound the audio is distorted and scratchy. i have no clue how to fix it...i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the audio driver but that has not corrected the problem. as far as i know i am using a realtek audio driver thats built into my motherboard. i dont know if it matters but i am using a dell inspiron e1505.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy computer has recently started playing the System Notification sound that is defined as Windows XP Balloon.wav in the Sounds and Audio Device Properties at seemingly random intervels, and I cannot seem to find out what application is triggering the playing of this sound. I am sure it is this sound specifically as I changed it up and the change was reflected in the sound that was playing. I have also been checking the event viewer under Administrative tools and haven't noticed any events that correspond with the issue at hand. It's slowly driving me crazy! I have heard a ton of good stuff about your forums and thought I would give it a try.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have successfully cloned my primary c partition of a dual boot system with XP Pro on the 1st primary partition c: and XP Pro on the 2nd primary partition as d: I can boot into my XP on the c: drive with no problem, but when I attempt to boot into my XP on the D drive it hangs on the blue screen right before booting into the user profiles. And believe it or not it continuously loops making the windows startup sound and the shutdown sound. It does the same in safe mode. I will try to explain the process on what I did so it can help you experts figure out this dilemma
View 3 Replies View Relatedmy computer freezes when I play some video games and also when I play AVI files (if I play mpeg files they work just fine, no freezing at all) But the thing is when I play games or AVI files my computer will freeze randomly (5 minutes, 30 minutes, just randomly sometimes it won't freeze at all) I don't know if it's the memory or not.

After a while my sound will cut out and when I try to play things in Winamp or anything it will stay stuck @ 0:00The sounds will sputter for a second and then freeze. Also when the sound dies, sometimes programs will start to freeze up to the point I can't even kill them in tskmgr. System sounds don't play either.I've tried updating to the latest drivers. I tried an older version of the drivers too.

Everything else is working fine, good audio for all playbacks.I don't have a system speaker attached to the motherboard. I finally got my internet up and I began to play Counter-strike. The sound sometimes messes up. I can hear other peoples shots just fine, but when I shot, it is almost silent.
This started last night, the only thing that I did that was out of the ordinary was ran Avast's thourough scan fully, but even after that my sound worked, so it didnt delete the driver to my knowlege, but when I do a dxdiag and look at my audio, it doesn't exist, there is no sound card installed, and allI use is my DFI Lan Party UT RDX200 CF-DR mother boards on board sound. I tried installing the driver again fom DFI and to no success, now when I went to install the drive again, I got an error saying that this device isnt approved by Windows. Could windows be preventing my audio card from working?
When i start my pc skype says that he hasn't found recording hardware. Itunes doesn't work, like Windows Media Player, Winamp etc. The sound is gone. I tried to fix it myself, cause i disabled a driver that seemed to have a problem, but i don't remember what the name was. Now not only the programs have no sound anymore, but windows is silent too. It sure wasn't the driver of my sound card. I installed Everest and he doesn't find any Windows Audio, and says the realtek has "noDB". When i am in the music tab of the "Diagnostic help program for DirectX" "windows synthesizer" test sound doesn't play, but the realtek does.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is about sound issues from the computer as in cant get sound from the computer.Went to computer properties then multi media controller has yellow question mark next to it so tried to update driver it goes to the wizard but it will not find any drivers for it without a cd which dont have. Tried roll back drivers says no drivers are backed up on file. Went to sound audio video game controllers audio codecs says all the codecs are working for this computer. Control panel sound audio says no sound device is connected. The sound card is realtek ALC655 AC 97 enhanced audio controller. Again got these drivers from foxxconn and exactly same issues. Extracted the files easily enough from wizard but when go to exe run folder the run it says cannot find setupfilex.dll. Then go to gxdver it dont do anything. Go to exe icon run and logger then it goes cannot run please find the setup exe file from the directory. In the folders cannot seem to find anything that will install the actual drivers without a conflicting issue somewhere. So everytime download this compressed driver folders for the drivers it has problems when the files are extracted.The sound card is enabled and mutli media controller says code 28 drivers not installed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is running windows xp home edition. it's packardbell, i bought it recently and updated service pack 2. since then it plays music for couple of minutes and sound goes off along with the volume icon on the taskbar. i tried control panel - sounds - show icon taskbar, but it doesn't work until i restart the comupter. i don't understand what could be wrong.. hardware or software. if it's hardware then the sound icon doesnt' disappear all of a sudden with out an error message.

Audio Driver enabled but inactive due to an unknown problem.
I am trying to change the Start Windows sound in the sound scheme. I downloaded a fanfare i wanted to use and changed it to a WAV file, but when Windows starts, i only get the first note, about half a second. When I click on the sound in the change sounds in sounds and audio device properties, it plays fine.

My computer is upgraded and so it is a hybrid system. I downloaded the driver for Sound Blaster Live! from the website and it still has the same problem. To be sure there was no on board sound, I took out the card and the computer said I had no audio devices which means there isn't a on-board sound card.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI succesfully update my BIOS "flash it" but lately , my sound its making some funny stuff ( like... poping sounds) and the "cliki sounds" of Windows when you open a folder, change page, etc. sometimes it sounds like a interference of a radio (bruugggtttt ) short my sound example ok , well , then it fix by itself , but then later comes again . my windows media player sounds ok, for now , havent notice slow in music yet , but musicmatch somtimes sounds funny , just the start opening music (intro) but songs OK.by the way I update my nero , so I uninstall and install the new version , I didn,t configure Nero to open wav files or sound files .should I need to update my sound driver for the chipset of SoundMax ?

Only mine freezes and I have to turn it off and back on manually.
I uninstalled WMP9, which caused it to revert to WMP 6.4.
I got that "Media Player Classic" that looks like WMP, and it worked for a little while, but now it just freezes any time I try to play a WMV.
When I was cleaning up my program list I accidentally removed my audio driver. I have been unable to find the same driver, or even a working one. HERE is my computer. I tried downloading the drivers from that site, and also from Intel.com ,but none of them have worked
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can play an DVD movie and the video works fine but I have no audio. I can play an music cd and the sound works fine. I tries it in media player and nero. Media player is a pain half the time it won't play an movie because of some rights problem. The movies are legal out of the store. I use to run a audio cable from the cd and dvd's to the motherboard in the old days, but haven't in a while because the audio would work either way. This is new MSI board with on board audio and works fine with music cd's but no audio on video's. I did get sound to work with movies but only after installing WinDVD7. I noticed that it installed a DVD Audio driver. Why don't the other programs have that like Media player, nero, realplayer. I thought that a fresh install and update of XP would have all the drivers for DVD as long as we have been using them
