i created 2 partitions, in one i installed winxp 64, in the other i installed wxp 32, but after installing the 32 bits version and tried to boot into xp64 i got that message, ntoskrnl.exe missing or damaged whats the problem??? i can boot into the 32 bits version, but the 64 bits is damaged or something.

I have had my Dell computer for about a month. When I boot up I get a message saying that I can't boot up because <windows root> System32NTOSKRNL.EXE is missing or corrupt. I get the same thing for system32DRIVERS NTFS.SYS.

Nothing has been uninstalled and the last thing to be installed was adobe. The only things ran recently was microsoft spyware and mcafee virus scanner and now it will not boot at all without these 2 files.

My computer will shut down.I originally thought that it might have been an overheating issue, but i ran Sandra and all temps came up under 40 cel. After some more fumbling around looking for a solution, I unplugged the HDD and plugged in the other HDD I have on the system with a separate installation of Win XP Pro and got the exact same error, even though I know for a fact it was working the last time I had it plugged in and it has not been plugged in since then.

Now, when I try to boot, I get the message that "ootmapi.dll was not found, reinstalling the application may fix the problem". I have tried safe mode, last known good config, and even a live Windows CD I made through Bart PE (an amazing program). I have alot of information I NEED on my hard drive. All I am able to get to is the BIOS or the diagnostics tool, F8 doesn't work, which means I cannot restart in safe mode or last known good configuration and if I use alt+F11, which is the option you have on Dell PC to reformat it in order to have everything the way it was at the time you bought it, it doesn't work.
A friend of mine told me to boot from the CD and then use the fixboot command, the problem is that DELL does not give OS CDs anymore and I honestly do not know what to do

I have a damaged OEM CD and the expired CDKEY that came with it from maximum activations as I was having BSOD problems which then was discovered to be bad RAM. The company I bought it from is now bankrupt and non-existant. Now I am left with a CD that makes a great coaster and a CDKEY that has expired from activation. When I first installed it 1 support request was already used? I had made one request and registered it with Microsoft so it has to be on archive even if it hasn't been used.Since I can't copy and paste.

So I enter the cd rom and press 'r' for repair, I choose C:windows, however before it can begin to repair it asks me for an 'Administration Password' which I have no idea of after many attempts.
I do not want to have to format the pc since I have some very important files on it. Any help is appreciated.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOK, I downloaded Diskkeeper premium the other night and it ran through my disk and defragged. Later, the system (running slow) so I uninstalled it. Still ran terrible. Did a system restore and upon booting, XP couldn't find ntoskrnl.exe. I never could get xp back up and going into the recovery console from the XP setup disk showed the windows folder was empty. I'm guessing the system restore wiped it and didn't complete reloading the contents which is why it was empty. I pulled the drive and hooked it up to another system as a second drive and was able to get some vital data files but most that
I needed were corrupt and wouldn't copy.i put the drive back in the machine it was in, started a fresh install of XP sp2 and it loads all files and when it starts windows to do the install, it hangs at 33 minutes remaining. Changed the drive and started with another good drive. Same thing. Got another XP sp2 disk in case some files were corrupt on the original although I had used it many times prior with no problem. Still the same thing. Gets to 33 minutes remaining on the install and just never gets any farther
