View 2 Replies View RelatedThis fault occurs on my brothers Win Xp machine, with the machine going round in the usual startup loop and never getting to windows. When booting from the XP cd, he can't use the recovery utility, because he can't remember the Administrators password. On one occassion in the recovery utility, we somehow managed to start windows (really don't know how, because it hasn't worked since).

My computer will shut down.I originally thought that it might have been an overheating issue, but i ran Sandra and all temps came up under 40 cel. I can not seem to keep my computer booted long enough to fix anything. It will stay booted as long as it is on the choice option of the Windows XP cd to install, repair or exit.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI learned here that it might be a keyboard issue, replaced it with one known to be good and it didn't work. After some more fumbling around looking for a solution, I unplugged the HDD and plugged in the other HDD I have on the system with a separate installation of Win XP Pro and got the exact same error, even though I know for a fact it was working the last time I had it plugged in and it has not been plugged in since then.

View 3 Replies View RelatedPC apparently crashed while I was gone. Black screen, says need to reload missing or corrupt hal.dll Cannot reboot into safe mode, no last known good point to return to. This is the only screen I can get, other than setup for bios - which can still see the hard drive and installed peripherals. Don't have a floppy drive,
although I'll be getting one soon, in order to try a boot to that.
when I went to log onto my pc, after turning on the screen, it remained blank in a stand-by sort of screen. I had left it on the previous evening while running basic Windows Disk-cleaner. So, I couldn't get the PC to respond, and rebooted it. Upon rebooting, I recieved an error message saying that the file "system32c_1252" was missing or corrupt. I tried booting off of the original system setup cd, and repairing the installation, but it didn't work and I recieved another error message stating that "system322052" was missing or corrupt. After that, I managed to get access Dos console and ran "CHKDSK" and "FIXBOOT." Fixboot completed successfully, while chkdsk first hung at 50% and then, when I tried again, completed with unfixable errors. I exited and got back to the original bootup screen, where upon I got the same message as before, only this time it informed me that my windowssystem32configsystem file was missing or corrupt. Now it seems as if there are new small changes each time I try to start up. I'm at a total loss regarding this. I have virus protection, firewall, and I hadn't been downloading or surfing any unfamiliar sites.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have reinstalled Windows XP Pro SP2 on my a computer that I built and started to install other programs as usual so that I could use this computer. The Windows Update balloon saying there are updates for your computer(it also claimed that I could work on other things while the updates occurred. So I installed other programs--Photoshop CS2, Quicktime Pro 7, Wacom Pen Tablet software drivers. The Windows Update happened three times. 1st had about 20 different updates, I rebooted with no problems. 2ns had 35 updates including IE 7, rebooted with no problems, 3rd time had 47 updates, rebooted and now my desktop is blank. My Pen Tablet (mouse) works but I don't see any icons or the START bar. My programs still work because when I open the Windows Task Manager and choose New task, I can browse for programs. Surfing thru other threads in this forum, I thought maybe I had a virus or malware.Just have never had any error messages. so I downloaded and ran these program scans: WPFind3u, VundoFix, AntiSuperspyware. Scans came up with no find of malicious stuff, but my desktop was visible afterwards. I've even tried starting up in safe mode. I get a black screen there--no icons on desktop.
View 5 Replies View RelatedGrr, this is why i hate reformatting and reinstalling an OS. My last one never had any problems with it - it had four years of active reliable service under its belt. This new one however has constant bugs.
Anyway, almost always when i boot the computer to windows, and then try to connect to the internet, i'm faced with a connect-to screen with the username and password fields completely blank. Then when i fill in said fields and click Connect i get the following error "cannot delete saved password. Error 711 : a configuration error on this computer is preventing
this connection". I get that twice followed by a third stating "cannot connect the phonebook entry"
It's very strange as it only started happening recently. And not consistently either, sometimes i can reboot and i'll not get the problem, such as now. It took me 20 minutes of rebooting thismorning before i got lucky. And the chance of my booting and not getting the problem seems to be getting less likely.
This appears to be a very uncommon problem, i've googled it quite a bit and found next to nothing, or solutions that didn't apply to my circumstances.
I also tried to create another connection to see if i could get around the problem that way but upon completion of the wizard i received the following error "Unable to create the specified connection. This can be caused by insufficient memory or disk space".
Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
My computer is windows XP and Pentium 4. I had problems with booting the computer for a few months now and has gotten worst. When I press the reboot button, I hear the PC running, but the monitor is just blank. I had to click the reboot button MANY times before it starts, and whenever it does, I hear a beep sound and this green light flashes from the CD drive. After a few months later, I did it again but this time I don't hear the beep or see the green light flashing. So I figured out a way to make it work, and it was by clicking the reboot button like 10 times, then switching the back switch on the PC off, then turn it back on and reboot again once. So I was wondering if there's a problem with the monitor(about 9 years old),the graphic card(renewed it recently) or something else.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had the familiar hal.dll missing or corrupt on starting XP SP1 on a mainboard NameMSI KM2M Combo (MS-6738).All I did was to take out the 1 Gig of SDRAM I've used OK for months and fit a new 1 Gig DDR module. A year or two back I had STOP errors through merely changing a RAM module, the simplest upgrade usually, so I kept switching RAM until it went with no STOPs. I resent having to reinstall an OS for a five-minute RAM refit! Obviously the hal error is caused by the new DDR module, since I'm now using the old SDRAM. Is there a way around this apart from the dreaded reinstall of OS? In the rare event the DDR could be faulty does anyone know a non-windows DDR test utility please?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI restarted my computer today and right after it started booting from my C: drive, an error came up that said something like "Windows cannot find the file C:windowssystem32tfs.sys because it is missing or corrupted." It suggests that I use the recovery disk to fix it, but I don't have the recovery disk, so I'm kind of in trouble. Luckily, I had some Linux LiveCDs laying around, so I used one to boot up my system.I think that this might have something to do with me trying to change my boot screen, but I didn't mess with that particular file, so I'm not sure. Also, I haven't done anything to the RAM lately.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis is not your typical Hal.dll file is missing or corrupt. I've tried all the fixes, and am getting nowhere. This is a Windows XP Pro install.I tried chkdsk /R in the Windows XP Recovery Console first, and while it did complete, it reported that "the disk contains one or more unrecoverable problems." I also should note that Recovery Console did not ask me to identify the windows install, nor did it ask me to enter the Administrator password.Next, I tried bootcfg /rebuild and got "Error: failed to successfully scan disks for windows installations. This error may be caused by a corrut file system, which could prevent bootcfg from scanning.Use chkdsk to detact any errors."
