All of a sudden recently, my mouse pointer hangs then freezes my PC. I have to reboot and everything is fine until the next time. I have run all my spyware/ anti-virus and it shows nothing. Is it time for a new mouse or is there a setting I am not familiar with?

All of a sudden, since yesterday, my comp hangs ramdomly. It freezes completely except for the mouse pointer I have noticed that sqmdata and sqmnoopt files appear on my root dir. These are apparently related to the MSN messenger, only I don't use that thingAnyone knows what they are? And if they may be connected to my computer hanging so frequently now?

When in this phase, it does this about once every 5 seconds. So, to be clear, it stays in its normal arrow shape, but fills w/ moving color bands rather than the standard white.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm on a new installation of Windows (on a new hard drive), and I was messing around with the nVidia control program a bit ago... I'm not sure if this is what has caused this somewhat amusing "glitch," but at some point in time while using my PC (long after I'd finished playing with nVidia), I noticed that there is a stationary mouse pointer on the right side of my screen, midway between the top & bottom. I tried refreshing my desktop and doing some other stuff, but it's still there. Now, restarting the PC will probably get rid of it, but what is weird is, it's on top of everything! I move my mouse next to it, and the pointer goes under the stationary pointer. I even tried to take a screen capture to show that I have two mouse pointers, but it only showed my working pointer (I used irfanview so it would show it).

I have also looked into changing the smooth mouse curve x and y in the regedit; however, it looks like this only has to do with how fast the pointer accelerates not with how much territory it covers. I would like to change mine so that a smaller movement of the mouse covers more of the display. would changing these values do that?
View 5 Replies View RelatedOn my wife's user account there is this Blubster thing that keeps cropping up and I can't seem to get rid of it. Sometimes I think its using the whole cpu as nothing else opens.The second thing is and it may be connected to the above is that I have just downloaded the updates from windows and it upgraded explorer to, I think its version 7 which looks quite a bit different. Now on my user account it opened with a couple of question boxes etc and appears to work fine. But, when I opened my wife's user account it does very strange things. It open a screen that looks like the new version of windows explorer but nothing further happens. The mouse pointer becomes an I icon and I cant click on anything except the Start button to get out of it.What does it all mean?

Starts/loads fine. Will run fine for days w/ I.E. open, O.E. open=no activity. Upon visiting different internet sites, using, after about 15+ minutes the pointer freezes/no error message/Cont-Alt-Delete provides nothing-can not shut down computer w/ button on CPU , must unplug/restart Several times I have been searching MS for downloads for I.E. -6 (Updates/patches/info) (as in my little mind this is problem) but C. freezes at that point as I click on a link.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy computer (Dell Dimension 2350 running Windows XP SP2, no new hardware or software added in years) turns on, asks me if I want to 'Start Windows Normally', 'Last Known Good Config' and 3 different Safe Modes. It doesn't matter which one I pick, it always starts the Windows splash screen, then goes to a black screen with my mouse pointer (which I can move, but cannot right or left click). Also, the keyboard controls don't seem to work, no ctrl+alt+del, nothing (though if I press shift 5 times it gives me the beep atleast letting me know the keyboard is working). Safe Modes do something a little different, but end up in the same place as the other modes. Safe mode will hang on Mup.sys for a long while before it goes to the black screen with the mouse pointer.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've just taken my brand new desktop system out of the box and there's no Start menu or icons appearing on the desktop. The monitor automatically initiated a startup wizard to select the correct resolution but once that was complete, the desktop was blank (except for the Windows default rolling green hills wallpaper). Not even the mouse pointer is visible. I restarted but after startup it went to the blank picture again. I tried pressing the Windows key on the keyboard,and also tried Ctrl+Alt+delete to get the Task manager but both times nothing happened. All components are plugged in correctly, and I haven't installed any software other than what came installed from the manufacturer (please see specs in my profile); I literally plugged it all in and switched it on.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI consider myself at least a bit competent when it comes to XP and computers... but this problem has me puzzled. I've done tons of searches on google, various forums, microsoft database, etc... and have found some similar problems except that I can't get my taskmanager to become visible. It's there, I know it because I get the resize pointers around the taskmanager's box.
Also, when I start-up WinXP. It gets to the login screen but I can't see my login picture or buttons. I can click on them and enter my password, but when it logs in (the windows start sound plays) the whole screen is black except for the mouse cursor (I don't have a wallpaper, just a black background, so I can't really tell you if my "wallpaper" is still there).
My system hangs also mouse and key board dont work until restart the computer.
View 2 Replies View RelatedNo one, even Compaq, can figure this problem out. Most times this happens when I am opening IEXPLORER or sometimes it just seems to happen after it's open. I will attempt to open IEXPLORER and my mouse will hang (stop responding) for about a second, then jump back into action. Say like opening up the web browser, and moving your mouse around in a circle, it stops even though you are still moving it. It also does this just when NOTHING is open on the desktop. Just stops for about a second, then springs back.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using WIN XP PS2 fully updated, and a Logitech Cordless Optical mouse connected via USB port. Whenever I try to Hibernate or Standby, the computer hangs, and I just see the "Preparing to Hibernate..." message.
I searched in a lot of forums, and most suggestions involved updating the Logitech mouse driver. I have the latest driver now (Setpoint 4.00, April '07), and the problem persists.
Note that when I disconnect the mouse from the USB port, I can enter and exit Hibernation or Standby modes without any problems.
I have two computers connected through a home network. One of the computers is very new and the other, two years old.Both run XP-SP2. I use one mouse for both computers - connected through a 2 port KVM switch. On the older machine, the mouse hangs after I close Internet Explorer. After a delay of a minute or so, it does come back most often. This does not ahppen on the new machine. Mouse does not seem to hang after I close other programs..(tested a few, but cant swear by it). This gets very annoying when I am in a rush.

View 6 Replies View Relatedi am trying to install windows xp service pack 3. but the windows on that kept freezing at the same point, every time it loaded to a state where i couldnt even move the mouse, was working perfectly fine before. i inserted the windows xp sp3 disk, and formatted the hard drive to ntfs (quick) and then the files started to copy, once that was done, it restarted and the actual installation part started. it went from 39 minutes down to 35 minutes and froze on the installing devices part. i thought it was a common error so i restarted the setup. this time it went to 34 minutes and froze. most of the times it would get stuck on 34/35 minutes and either froze or restarted the laptop for no reason. Only once, it went down to 23 minutes and froze. only 2 out of 30 tries went past the install devices section.

I have a biostar u8668 pro motherboard, intel p4 1.7ghz, 512 ddr ram, cd and dvd writers and two hard drives. I am running windows xp pro with all the service packs and upgrades. I even flashed the bios with no apparent improvement. On immediate rebooting all is well for about the same time before it freezes again. What am I overlooking?

I suggested to do a disk-clean up, defrag, etc. first and she tried, but she said that the disk-clean up will just hang and if she tries anything else even to cancel it, the system will freeze up.Any ideas? Is it spyware? Or should she just do a whole reformat?

View 9 Replies View Relatedi am running hp pavillion t550 with penthium 4, 512 ram, 80gigs hd. i have scanned it with pestparol and microsoft antispyware, scanned it with norton av many times and came out clean. done the error nuker too. i got about 70 percent space on my hard disc and at most times just using 260 on my ram.my pc just freezes up , randomly. it could happen after 15 mins. after loading or within 3 hrs. the cursor stays in one spot. no reaction from the mouse and keyboard.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy laptop freezes 9/10 when i choose shutdown and i have to force it by holding down the power button sometimes (4/10) it freezes when you leave it on its own for a while, usually when the screensaver kicked in it would ask for user to log on again..it was when bringing it out of screensaver it would do this - so i disabled the screensaver and now its not as often when it happens - its just if its been left for a while sometimes the screen will go black and freeze, it happened once or twice when logging off and other user goes to log on.. so t appears to be problem with the log on part of the setup

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy mouse keeps hanging up and clock loses time when not running in safe mode. Not just the mouse really, but nothing at all works. When I boot normally (not into safe mode), windows can take forever to load due to this. On last boot my clock lost 10 out of 15 minutes uptime and I had to manually power off even then. I am running Windows XP Service pack 2 on a AMD Athlon 64 3800+ system with 1214 mb mem 150 gig hdd.
View 8 Replies View RelatedIn response to this I attempted to use System Restore. This failed, for some reason after selecting the restore date, clicking next did nothing. I then decided to go on a deleting spree, removing all unnecessary folders, programs etc. Somewhere along the line I must not have been paying attention and deleted the i386 folder. Of course, all hell broke loose and I couldnt even log into any users be it safe mode or not (I got automatically logged out).
Now to the real problem: The setup gets to 34 minutes remaining and encounters some problems while installing devices. A number of pop up messages appear, After that last pop-up, the keyboard and mouse promptly freeze, and a final pop-up appears replacing the italics line with "Conexant D850 56K V.9x DFVc Modem". Unfortunately I now cant click yes or no, and therefore cant continue with the setup.
