My daughter hasa new Toshiba Satelite laptop runing win xp service pack2. When scrolling around on the screen she sudenly get a blue window that pops up on screen. This is a menu showing all of her desktop icons. It sometimes even starts a program automatically .

View 5 Replies View RelatedThe main problem: I try to open "My Computer" "Control Panel" "Search" that type of stuff from the start menu and it seems like my OS just completely freezes up, the start menu window just freezes and locks onto the background, desktop becomes inactive where I can not click any icons or anything, usualy this happens for a period of time then it just self terminates, screen goes blank to background desktop image for a couple secs then comes back (as if I had not tried to open whatever I had tried to)

My intellimouse works correctly for awhile then double click fails. When this occurs the mouse control panel fails to open. Shutting down and restart corrects the problem-but only for awhile and then the same thing happens over again. I reloaded software to no avail. any help?

When i checked in device manager everything looked ok but i could not access the mouse properties in the control panel also when i tried a spyware scan it kept crashing as soon as it found a infection.

My computer is restarting after 3 seconds when i am trying to start the computer. I am coming to the desktop and i can wait for 3 seconds and then suddenly, blue screen with white text and some red is showed to me for just one second. And the the computer restarts.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI run XP SP2 on Athlon 2600 and 512 MB RAM and last night I shut it down as usal. When I turn my computer on this morning, it started to boot, but after few seconds, the long message appears, something like: "We are sorry for inconvenience but Windows can not start... " and it tells me to either boot into Safe mode, use last configuration, or start Windows normally. The last option is highlighted. But after that, blue screen flashes for just a moment (long enough to see there is some text but not long enough to read it), and then it goes back to start... detecting hard drive and stuff. It keeps looping like that forever. I tried to go to safe mode, but the same things happen. It goes back to start and then a "Start Windows normally" is Highlighted again.

boot to Last Known Good Configuration - resulting in the same blue screen
boot to Safe Mode / Safe Mode with networking / Safe Mode with comman prompt - resulting in blank (black) screen with "Safe Mode" in the corners and moveable mouse test the hardware (hard drive / memory etc.) via build in PC Doctor - all seems to be working
i am able to use bootable XP CD from other machine to get into Recovery Console
i am able to boot to simple live XP using BartPE-XPE usb key and access the hard drive

This then has the fly-out menu which used to open only the most recently accessed programs. Typically, after a boot it would show the items which opened in *Start-Up*, the rest were accessible only by hovering the mouse cursor over a button showing downward pointing arrows (more chevron like). This would then open the entire sub menu of programs to choose from. However, in the past week it now opens in that expanded view all the time. There is no sign of the little arrows anymore, and I always end up with a screen full of program lists whenever I go to Start/Programs.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Inspiron 2650 laptop on boot-up consistently gives a blue screen with ERROR (0X000000ED (0X81ACA988, 0XC0000006,0X00000000,0X00000000). I have read most of your fixes BUT in my case no matter what I do it ALWAYS boots to this screen. Trying to boot to Safe Mode results in a list of drivers prefixed by ?multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)c:windowsdriver.sys etc The machine will not boot from Floppy or CD and I?ve tried every combination of boot sequence under the F12 menu. In the BIOS it will not allow me to change any relevant settings, only the ?system date?, ?system time? and ?quiet boot?.and I cannot select the dropdown menu items either. Booting under Normal Startup, I see the Windows Logo and all that, but then the blue screen appears. I?ve tried removing the hard disk to get it to boot to floppy, removing the battery (which is totally dead), memory module, etc. Only thing left I think is to sling it in the Caribbean Ocean and go drink a bottle of rum.

So rather then argue about it I got a question for the group How do I mouse with a keyboard. I used to know how , it is a distance memory. Can you point to me a document or list of keystroke to work my way through this process? I only need to configure one app and turn it on as a service. Then the server can sit with no mouse my job would be done.

so i went to msn and did the verify ( windows genuine advantage ) verification just to see if she has done it so we passed the test ,Its valid so no problem there .this is a dell machine >Dimension 5000< only a few months old, 3 at tops . she doesnt even use the net much . its a machine for picture editing .
any ideas why we cannot get the updates ..
also 1 time when i was on this machine surfing . this dell window poped up and showed something about updates , like it has over ridden Windows automatic updates . but i cannot find it anywhere on this machine

On Internet Explorer every time I right click anywhere, on any webpage, other than the top menu bar or a flash object, a new IE8 window will pop up and load my home page. Which is becoming a real annoyance. All other browsers work fine. I have ran virus scans, removed at reinstalled IE8 even formatted my HDD. Which sorted the problem at first, but now after windows updates the problems is back.
