Missing Shut Off Button And Start Menu
Nov 11, 2007I'm no pro regarding computerstuff what so ever, but I know my ways aroudn at least. But the other day I got a whole bunch of abd viruses I think..from where I have no clue. I run Nod32 and it probably missed this ones. So anyway, I noticed I had some kind bad stuff called Vundo trojan. is that correct? So, I managed to remove (I think) that with Spyware doctor.BUT, the problems I had stared before i removed it. I have one account, my own, with admin. rights. BUT the "Shut off" button is missing in my startmenu and I cant start the Windows Task manager, because it has ben blocked by the..administrator? BUT, thats me? So, how can this be?It's really annoying and I have noo clue what so ever on what to do here. I tried to create a new account, and that worked fine. But that would mean alot of extra work with mailprograms and stuff.

Jul 10, 2006Sometimes when I double click my shortcuts on my desktop the program doesn't open up. Instead the properties window pops up. This is not happening with just one of my shortcuts this is happening with all of them.I usually do a restart to fix this problem and it doesn't happen any more but that is only a temporary fix because it often happens again when I startup my computer. What is the reason for this? Is anybody else having this problem?

Jun 14, 2005I've been having a problem since upgrading to XP a few months ago. About 75% of the times that I open up "my pictures" in "my documents" (where I store lots of my digital photos) I get the error message where it asks you if you want to send an error report. Whether I choose to or not, or even if I simply shut the message, "my pictures" closes and I therefore cannot access the folder. The other 25% of the time it opens fine.As I say, it's just photos and short videos stored in here, all taken by my own digital camera. Virus and other problem checkers haven't detected anything, and there's no reason to suspect these files are infected with anything.

The problem is, in doing so I must have enabled some weird seach option, because when I double-click either drive (C: or external) in My Computer it brings up a search window with that drive selected as where I want to search. Jun 18, 2005I have set aside a partition on a computer to be Virtual Memory. It is something like 1488 MB. When I went to change the Virtual Memory settings so it will use this partition, I got a blue screen and had to reboot. I kept working with it and finally got it to accept 100 MB for the lowest and 1400 for the highest setting. However, after reading more, I think the 100 MB should have been higher. It won't let me change it to anything else

May 3, 2010I am running a PC clone, Win XP SP3. It is using a wired connection to a router. Yesterday, out of no where, I lost connection to the internet. No browsers, Trillian, nothing that uses the internet works. I tried running a virus scan, malware scan and found nothing. I tried doing a system restore and it seemed to work, for a brief moment I had the internet again. Then, once more, it stopped working.
Right now, the current speculation is that the onboard network connection is dying. What I'm trying to find out, is if that is possible or not. I'm not worried about having to buy a card - they're cheap. I am worried about buying a new card and it not fixing the problem.Are there other things that can cause this to happen that I can/should look into first?
Print Icon Brings Up Print Properties Box?
Jul 20, 2005All worked as normal Printer icon would print automatically with default print settings; File -Print would bring up print properties dialogue box to select options.Unhooked printer from laptop. Since reconnecting printer, the print icon button reverts to bringing up the print properties box as happens with going File - print. There is only one printer attached - it is shown in "Printers and Faxes" with a tick. There is nowhere to check it as the default printer as it is the only printer.How can I make the print icon button just do straight default prints again?

Jul 28, 2005I am using Windows XP/SP2 a newish computer and some things changed from how it used to be.From the *Start* Button, there is the further button *Programs*. This then has the fly-out menu which used to open only the most recently accessed programs. Typically, after a boot it would show the items which opened in *Start-Up*, the rest were accessible only by hovering the mouse cursor over a button showing downward pointing arrows (more chevron like). This would then open the entire sub menu of programs to choose from. However, in the past week it now opens in that expanded view all the time. There is no sign of the little arrows anymore, and I always end up with a screen full of program lists whenever I go to Start/Programs.

I ran ADAWARE spyware removal and it removes two files that are listed as MALWARE. WindowsSystem32a EXE and Windowssystem32Bridge.dll. If I remove them then I get a notice on startup that it can't find Windowssys32ride.dll.

Nov 13, 2007I decided to use a computer at an Elementary school I work at in Japan. I switched it on and then checked my email and surfed the web. I decided to shut down the computer after I finished. The next day a teacher says do not shut down the computer because last night teachers could not use the computer. Is this just a security reason once you shut down you can't use the computer again for that day? I always thought it was simply reenter the password and reconnect to the internet again to use the computer again.

I know when the problem is occurring because the sound card icon doesn't show on the task bar.I don't know if all programs are non-functioning, but the internet connection and the sound card are not only when this occurs.
