Installing Office 2000: Windows File Protection Popup?
Feb 24, 2007
I have just installed a fresh copy of XP Pro and am now attempting to install Office 2000 Midway through the installation a window entitled "windows file protection" pops up which reads: "Windows files must be installed for your installation to proceed. Insert your Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD now." The buttons available to press are retry, more information and cancel. When i insert the cd i used to install XP Pro it tells me i've inserted the wrong CD- the same message comes up when i press "retry"After clicking cancel to exit setup, i get the message entitled "installer information"- "Error 1933- The windows installer service cannot update one or more protected Windows files"
I had to put windows 2000 on my moms PC, which is part of a network, and now EVERY computer on the Network sees an "Internet Gateway". WHY???? The only computer that can see shared files is my moms with the windows 2000. theres 3 more computers all running windows xp. how do i fix this? File sharing is now available, but I myself believe the internet is being slowed down. THe Internet gateway that windows XP is picking up is reading 8.0 mbps. My connection has gotten as high as like almost 2, but it should not read that.
Running Disk Cleanup, when this Windows File Protection comes up saying a system file has been replaced with a unrecognized one. It wants me to put in my Operating System CD, but I don't have one. I bought this computer and the required files are already on the computer. So what should I do?
Im running XP Pro. Ive upgraded to SP1 and have tried over and over again to get office 2000 premium to install. Half way through the installation i get the error "installer terminated prematurely". no matter what i do I get this message. It partially installs, but not enough to be fully operational. I havent ever had this problem and am unsure of how to fix it. is there a fix available?
I am at work on one of the computers on their network. This machine is used my three or four people so how the problem started is just a guess. Word, Excel, Power point all open with "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Professional." If I try to open any file I created in the past, the same thing happens. I thought I would run scanner but apparently that command does not work.
I have a failed installation of MS Office 2000 that I need to remove from my XP Home system. The failure appears to be related to the CD because the uninstall also fails. Is there any way to remove the application without the CD? Unfortunately there dont appear to be any restore points set in the system restore.
I have Windows 2000 Pro and will be upgrading to Windows XP Pro. I will be installing Office 2000 - wil there be any issues with installing Office 200?
This one has stumped me but I believe the cause is related to the million versions of security dlls MS has created pre-and post sp2.
The symptoms:
Linked popups in IE generate a blank window.
Event viewer property pages do not open Services property pages do not work Javascript "A disk error has occurred during a read operation" Firefox opens the window but also adds a second blank one for a popup Links in outlook emails open fine in new window AOL webmail works correctly new window with email in it
Since this behavior arrived out of the blue and is specific I believe some proximate events were:
Install and de-install Pluck (RSS browser tool) Install and de-install Java V1.5 SE AOL homepage saying it was upgrading (AOL mail does work)
To resolve this I have:
Used Iefix to deinstall reinstall IE Updated to all fixes sans sp2 run sfc /scannow downloaded current scripting engine from MS re-registered all suggested dlls for ie6 run current Macafee on everything gone through MS knowledgebase
I did find two other users having the same problem with an extensive list of possible resolutions, none of which have worked.
I'm trying to setup a batch file that executes the Office 2003 Standard installation when a user logs in for the first time. how I can automate the insertion of the product key without any user interaction?
what i wish to do is reformat c: . But everything i click on a popup comes up saying something like this file program has no file assocation go to control panel etc....eg fdisk, c: prompt...seems like everything to do with windows. Is there anyway of getting the file assocation back. oh yeah when it starts there is a popup that comes up, with nothing in it just a few square boxes in the top left corner and of course i cant get into msconfig to see what is starting.
This message keeps popping up every so often.. is it legitimate? or is it just a part of a pop-up ad/adware/etc.? "Windows Security Center WARNING: Windows Firewall detected suspicious network activity on your computer. Malicious software codes try to steal your privacy information, such as credit card numbers, electronic mail accounts, financial data or passwords.
Is there a way I can update from Windows 2000 Pro to Windows XP Pro without having to reinstall my programs and backup/reinstall all of my files? Is it safe to just update like this?

I have a computer that is a few years old. I installed XP Professional on it, and now it runs really slow. I have an old copy of Windows 2000 that I would like to install on my computer instead. Does anyone know how to do that? When I put in my Win 2000 CD, it tells me that I already have a higher version of windows on my system and doesn't let me do anything else.
I'm an intermediate user just beginning to study for MS sys admin. Both my laptops run XP home, but I have 2000 Pro from when I had a desktop...which I unfortunately gave to a family member. I'd like to install this on one of my laptops because the Pro capabilities will allow me to "study" a little better than just home XP. At any rate, I'd like the experience of configuring everything. will I lose everything in XP if I set up a partition to install 2000 Pro? Is it even possible to install both of them without installing 2000 first? The XP came pre-loaded on my computer but I do have a disk.
I have a pentium III Dell spare computer siting on a shelf downstairs with win pro 2000 installed on it. Is it a hard thing to uninstall that operating system and reinstall the windows xp home from my main home Dell computer?
I install Server 2003 Standard SP1 downloaded and installed on a PII 400, 256Mb RAM with IIS, ASP.Net 2.0, SQL server 2000 SP4, Mysql 5, and PHP5, and all without a single hitch...too good to be true. I went ahead and tried on what will be my server PIII600, 512 MB RAM, First try, Server 2003 couldn't find a file when installing, retried and it worked. Downloaded SP1 and when I was extracting it said "file is corrupt", downloaded 4 more times with same result. reformatted and reinstalled 5 more times and cannot get past "file is corrupt" on SP1 and sometimes extracting the .Net 2.0 installer got the same error. I swap all hardware with PC from first try (except RAM, Mobo, CPU, CDROM) with no change. Win98 and XP installed fine on the second PC just can't get server 2003
I do all my document scanning in M$ Office. It scans documents as a .tif file which open with M$ Office Document imaging. However, every few weeks, the .tif file extension disappears from folder options/ file types, my scans have a generic icon and open with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, which I don't like. I have to enter a new file type with a .tif extension to get my scans to open again in Document Imaging.
I am somewhat of a newbie to PC. I have a computer with Windows 2000 on it and want to upgrade to Windows XP, so I go and buy the XP upgrade pack with SP2 on it. On the box it says its for users of 98, 98 Second Edition, and ME. It doesnt mention 2000 anywere ! So can I not use this to upgrade to XP? Thus, Users can run certified applications, but not most legacy applications".Is there a way i can add to the certified applications? My computer keeps on freezing about 15 minutes after logging onto windows, I re-installed windows 2000, updated the drivers, applied all patches and security updates, and updated the motherboard and bios, purchased a new hard drive, and purchased new ram memory, but my computer still freezes. cannot access my PC. Running windows 2000 pro PC as it is not taking what I thought the logon password is. I am locked out. I am not super technical and would like a shortcut. I did receive a tip, but it was for XP and is only good if you are already in. I need to retrieve a critical word doc.
