Install Log Missing
Oct 1, 2006I tried to remove programs from the control panel and it said that the "installation log file cannot be found".So, a lot of space is being taken up because I can't seem to figure this out.

New OS Install, Some Drivers Missing / Unable To Install?
Jul 7, 2008I just purchased a used Dell Dimension 4700, it came without the OS installed or the resource cd with all the drivers. I installed the OS this afternoon, but in the device manager serveral yellow ? came up. The flags are listed for the ethernet controller, multimedia audio controller, PCI modem, SM Bus controller, unknown device, and the video controller (vga compatible).

Sep 26, 2007I have been advised to reformat my laptop. I don't have too many files on my laptop so losing them won't really matter, however when i put the Windows XP cd in to my drive and start up the laptop it only goes so far and keeps saying to insert the cd as files in D:i386 are missing. When i tried to run it with my pc already started up it said "i386winntupg etupgrd.dll" was missing.

Mar 11, 2010I have an older laptop in which the hard drive and broken on, I was hoping to fix it so that my in-laws could use it to keep in touch with family via Skype. So...I purchsed a new 20gb hard drive and fitted it yesterday. The laptop booted up ok but after the Bios screen displayed an error message of "ntldr is missing press ctrl, alt, delete to restart" When I rebooted with my Windows XP cd in it's gets just past the Bios screen and then displays some errors in French! The jist of these errors I think is that the boot.ini file could not be found. I tried to reboot but I still get another error message in french! From what I can see it does not say anything about boot.ini this time though. I have also tried a XP Recovery Console Repair to no avail either and have exhausted everything I know. what I need to do to install XP onto this HDD (it has been formatted too)? Any explanation on why the messages are in French? Also one thing to mention is that when I manage to boot with XP Live CD and use Command Prompt the letters I type on the keyboard come out all wrong ie. : comes out as * and m comes out as 0

Dec 2, 2007I just installed Win XP on a freshly formatted C: drive of an IBM HDD using a slipstreamed XP disk.It appeared to install normally, loaded all the required drivers and configured without problems. But when booted and rebooted several times it shows a desktop with the standard background, BUT NO TASKBAR nor START BUTTON. The computer is ok because it loads XP normally from the slave drive.When I run the Task Manager it shows the startup files, explorer.exe and normal processes, but will not respond to the shutdown option.Since I can't access "Run", I can't run "Regedit" or any of the suggestions made to others.

but i get an error "NTLDR file is missing" (never pressed a key when it said "Press any key to boot from cd"
I tried using the setup disks from microsoft at How to obtain Windows XP Setup boot disks

Clean Install / Missing NTLDR Viruses On Computer
Jan 16, 2008"missing NTLDR" viruses an my PC with XP Home. I am trying to do a clean install of XP Pro. I boot to the CD and it starts checking the configurations. I then get a screen asking for me to insert the CD in Drive "A". It won't read the CD no matter what I do. The PC only has the DVD/CD-rom and the hard drive.

While everything seems to have installed okay, the computer seems to think that I have no modem (drivers are okay). A browse through the event log shows that the Tapisrv is n/a. Are all services not installed for the first time? If not, then how to add a service? I've just moved to XP, so I'm unfamiliar with it.

Jul 31, 2007"Install" option is missing from the context menu for *.inf files.
Google gives many results, but all considering the same problem for Win95/98/2000, and not for XP which is my OS.
It is probably a registry problem, since it is the same case on my both computers with same software, and different hardware.
I've tried everything I knew, but can't move a bit.
I have one more problem with context menu; WinRAR "extract" options are present, but not working for *.rar files. They do work for other archives though. This is not such a big problem, but I am mentioning it beacause there is a possibility that both are connected.
I desperatly need to install an *.inf driver. No way around. I NEED to get back "INstall" option in the context menu for *.inf file drivers.

Dec 5, 2009while trying to fix another problem, by repairing WP on an Averatec 3200, the Install went into the actual install mode, rather than the repair mode. As I don't have the security key (someone who will go un-named, but I have my suspicions, threw away the plastic CD holder with the key taped to the back) I can't continue the install and I can't get the install off the computer. The reason that I was trying to repair is that I have the Log-on Virus which makes it impossible to log on and do anything about the virus. Can't even get to SAFE mode to try to remove the virus with Spyware Doctor.

Apr 18, 2005HI, I just installed windows 2000 professional onto my computer. Everything works fine except that the resolution is really grainy. On some web sites I cannot even make out what the words are. I found out that when I go into my monitor settings in display properties I am unable to install the drivers for my monitor. Does anybody know a way in which I can get around this.
