View 20 RepliesDid something really stupid the other day. Was doing a Windows install and I mistook a drive for a different drive. In short, I deleted the partition, recreated the partition, but I haven't reformatted yet. The partition was the same size before and after so that shouldn't be a problem. the files should still be there but I don't know how to get at them. I've already tried Recuva, UndeletePlus, Restoration, and a Knoppix boot disk but none of these were able to do anything because of the lack of a file system/boot sector.

I have dvds, not copy right protected, I can already rip them just fine, thing is I need to convert them to divx format, so as I load the VOB files in to the software, it goes about its way and does its stuff, thing is, I need to take the entire movie that plays on the disk and convert the hole thing, I dont want segmented videos, and sense there are multible VOB files, im assuming these are scene selections? and i really really dont want to have to load each scene in to the software, not only that but i need the whole video fromt he disk to be around 124Megs, so when I specify the software to convert to that size its like going to convert each scene?? im so confused with this crap.. so what I am hoping for is.. is there software, accessible software i mean, that can just look at the dvd, and as a whole, convert it to divx?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHi.I purchase an external ide enclosure that converts to usb 2.0. I place my hard drive in it with Winxp, connected it to usb 2.0 port. It boots into the windows screen but shortly after it reboots again. It is not the ide enclosure unit because this is the second one I tried. Do I need to configure something to get it to boot from my usb port with Windows xp? Possibly my boot chain loader. If so how?I tried it with Linux on my other enclosure and linux OS handles it okay.

I do not want to install it, as somebody told me this is a tool by MS to takeout personal information on my OS (XP) and MS Office and other MS Software.I know I use genuine legal copy. But why should I allow MS to take more information ? Is not WPA through internet is not sufficient ? Can this tool take information on other products/3rd party software like NERO,MS OFFICE and ArcSOft ?

My pc is running Windows XP Home SP1, and in an attempt to clean out the tenga virus I used AVG Free Edition. I clicked 'heal' when it ran across instances of the virus in my exe files, but it seems to have deleted a few things. In the middle of the session Windows logged off and required me to enter my password for my user account (it doesn't have a pw) and would log off every time I tried to log on

I have an WD 80G HD which showed used and free space accurately. I just deleted 2 files about 15 gigs each, but it still reports the same free space as before I deleted the files. This happend also on a partition and I had to reformat that to restore proper free space.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I look with the Explore facility the size of all my directories in C: I found roughly 8.3 GB, When I look at the used space with Property on C: I found 26.2 GB or 3 times more ! The remaining free space si 1.5 GB.I cannot understand why.I have deleted all the temp files, try to delete the maximum unnecessary
files but I now cannot go much further so I cannot defragment for instance and I suppose I am going into a wall soon if I do not act quickly.
I have been looking at image recovery programs to see what can be extracted from the free space after all the cleaning operations have been implemented. Having seen the amount of information that can be recovered I will no longer empty the Recycle Bin without shredding the contents, but it seems that an enormous amount of information is still being collected which the normal individual is unaware of.

My computer is about 2 years old. In those two years, I had to re-install Windows XP and everything else on my computer...for reasons unknown...I recently performed a New Installation of Windows XP on my computer. I don't have alot of things installed on my computer. The total space all the programs in my Add and Remove programs file takes up is only 1GB. Since I had to start over and re-install everything and my programs only add up to 1GB, Shouldn't I have more free space ?
On an XP Pro SP2 box, until a couple weeks ago, when I brought up the cmd
prompt by typing cmd in the run box, I always got XP''s cmd prompt aka dos
emulator with a name bar and right clicking on it gave me tools to configure
it's appearance and functions. I am not using cmd in full screen mode. I can see it by right clicking the minimized cmd on my task bar, using properties or I can use edit from that right click context, but I want the name bar back. When I go to the right click context>properties and click normal window it should restore this but it doesn't.
