View 1 RepliesI went to use PerfectDisc yesterday, it suggested I do a bootup scan, I did, allowed it to do pagefile scan too. Ran fine. Then rebooted, went to do regular scan. it locked up on the Blue Screen of Death.
"Bad_Pool_Header" and gave some error info... 0x00000019, and so on.
Computer runs fine though otherwise, which is funny.
Then when I try to go to Registry Mechanic and scan, it goes all the way through, and on I believe the deepscan, it always goes to BSOD there. I think while it's in the HKEY section of current user.
There may be other programs that will cause the BSOD, but these 2 are the only ones so far. Please guide me through this....Anyone.
Under Windows 9x and ME, backing up the entire Windows Registry was a relatively simple task for which many free tools were available. PCMag had one called SaveReg2, a simple batch file that would back up the Win9x/ME registry (User.dat and System.dat) and save any quantity I liked and delete the oldest ones as it progressed. The Windows 2000/XP Registries aren't that simple and I see no automated schedulers for backing up just the Registry--the whole registry.I want a tool that will save the entire Registry on a schedule each day or once a week or month, depending on user preferences, save a user-specifiable quantity and, delete the oldest ones when that quantity is reached. With spyware and adware becoming difficult-to-impossible to remove and as destructive to the OS as it has become, this seems an indespensible tool--if it is available anywhere.
View 14 Replies View RelatedWin 98 / SE has a ScanReg.exe application, which on start-up picks up the 2 Registery files (System.Dat, User.Dat) plus 2 ini files (System.ini and Win.in) and compresses trhem as *.cab file - RBxxx.cab. The files are stored at WindowsSysBckUp folder. In case of improper shut-down or some just installed program cause problem, one can boot with F8 to command propmt and RESTORE the registery. Is there a similar functionality in Win XP - Professional or if not, any 3rd party software developer has created a software for that. Restore from Windows mode generally does not work and in case the registery is totally messed up, one does not have the running system, so the question of restoring the system, using SYSTEM RESTORE application does not arise.

i downloaded "Demo Version" Jv16 Power tools 2005 from a link to find duplicate files and clean my registry, I thought that programs I had uninstalled and reinstalled for varius reasons were all duplicated with missing files. The download didn't have the handbook which i found out later i needed so now after running dup. file finder, reg cleaner. I have a very unstable system nothing stays stable and there is a mass of backups I don,t know where to start. The forum there won,t help. supposedly I got a old Beta version. My backups don,t look anything like there's. I would like to go back to before i installed with system restore point but i dont know if it can retrieve files from Jv16 backup or what.

I want to backup my Autocomplete User Names and Passwords, Web Addresses, and Forms entries in the registry. What are the registry addresses for these items?
I tried to delete the registry entries which were bad, I had 30 of them, but the these two will just not go away, even by doing them manually, such as saving as a backup then deleting it manually and remerging. They just show up no matter what I do, or so use programs like Registry Mechanic, which I found only mediocre, very far from the ratings. to delete these two entries somehow from someone who is actully knows how to without using several so called registry cleaners, which only work partially.

On an XP Pro SP2 box, until a couple weeks ago, when I brought up the cmd
prompt by typing cmd in the run box, I always got XP''s cmd prompt aka dos
emulator with a name bar and right clicking on it gave me tools to configure
it's appearance and functions. I am not using cmd in full screen mode. I can see it by right clicking the minimized cmd on my task bar, using properties or I can use edit from that right click context, but I want the name bar back. When I go to the right click context>properties and click normal window it should restore this but it doesn't.

I have few extra processes running.I attempted a system restore back to the day before the problem occurred. Upon startup, I would get an error message stating Windows Explorer Must Close.
