I have Windows XP SP2. Doesn't this new latest and greatest version have a Windows backup? I can't find one.
I think it should be under AllPrograms/Accessories/System tools - but it isn't there. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I tried to use MS backup tool to make a full backup of my whole system in order to restore it in another new machine. It fails because MS backup could not make a full backup, since the administrator does not have access to any file in the system (some directories, files, etc. are not allowed to be read by the admin). Meanwhile, ghost and partition magic for instance allows to copy the whole HD partition.Does anybody know if MS backup can really make a full system backup (with different access rights, multiple users on the machine, etc.), and then to restore this system into a new machine (same model, same hardware profile).That is, is a system duplication la-ghost possible with MS backup ?Is MS backup allows only to copy and restore personal accessible files, I do not understand why such tool exist since any standard copy and compress method would make the same thing. The real backup is when the system can be restored.

Now a days it is insisting to install "Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)" first to proceed for downloading update files.Is it a FORCE or I can bypass this tool. I do not want to install it, as somebody told me this is a tool by MS to takeout personal information on my OS (XP) and MS Office and other MS Software.I know I use genuine legal copy.But why should I allow MS to take more information ? Is not WPA through internet is not sufficient ? Can this tool take information on other products/3rd party software like NERO,MS OFFICE and ArcSOft ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter restoring a computer and backing up files, once the computer is back up and running should I have a foldercalled "My Backup 1408-08 2353" or should I have a single backup file called backup.bkf? I'm trying to help someone, and they have a folder with the files already available instead of a single backup.bkf file. He wants to restore everything to the original location before the computer restore. How can he do that with the folder he has instead of a backup.bkf file? The restore wizard is asking for a .bkf file to place everything in the original locations, and he doesn't have that.

continuity@work from Mobiliti who claim to be able to just backup the changes to a PST file. I left continuity@work running overnight and had to stop it as it was only 50% through the backup this morning. It calls it synchronization rather than backup and from the error messages it seems that it doesn't create a shadow image before backing up as several files were not backed up as they were in use.
I have two IDE hard disks one 40GB=C and the secondary 200GB=D,I have made a copy of documents and setting from C to a new folder backup in drive D.After that this operating finished I preformed format of C and installed from on drive C the MS WIN XP operating system.After the installation the backup FOLDER on drive D, changed to backup FILE without extension.How can I restore my DATA? anyone familiar with this phenomenon

Im using the "copy" option.so nothing has been appended or incremental.Im just looking to avoid deleting the setup i got, and maybe just delete a few "copy" backups so that theres not 8 gigs / 1 years worth of backups.i only need about 4 months I forgot about it.cuz i never neaded it. But it looks as if its the only way b/c i cant just delete selected backups.all or nothing?/ anyone know of a better backup utility that is simple and easy on a system BTW?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using XP Home and have been backing up My Documents regularly to an external hard drive with the back up utility in XP. The last time I tried to do a backup, I got an error message, "You have either run out of space or the backup (.bkf) is too large for this disk. Note: if this disk is formatted with Fat 32 , the maximum possible size for the is 4GB." My external disk is 75GB with 45GB free. It is formatted in NTFS. I did a clean up and defragged the disk and get the same error when I try to backup. Is this an indication of a problem with the external hard disk or a problem with the XP backup utility

prompt by typing cmd in the run box, I always got XP''s cmd prompt aka dos
emulator with a name bar and right clicking on it gave me tools to configure
it's appearance and functions. I am not using cmd in full screen mode. I can see it by right clicking the minimized cmd on my task bar, using properties or I can use edit from that right click context, but I want the name bar back. When I go to the right click context>properties and click normal window it should restore this but it doesn't.
I seem to have lost my tool bar at the top of my folders the one with like:- File, Edit, View, Ect also the bar below it with Back, Home, History.

I do have Help services started in administrative control but can't think what else it can be. I removed XP SP2 and it still didn't work, then put SP2 back on and again, still same error.
