I am running an old dual celeron 1.13 ghz machine with windows xp. I just reinstalled xp, and installed sp3 after installing windows installer 3.1. Right mouse click on folders on desktop or in windows explorer hangs the application. On the desktop I have been just shutting down, and when I do it to rename or in explorer I can stop process
I am really getting tired of getting these application hangs in Explorer 6. Is Microsoft ever going to fix this? I got a message once to download a fix which I did, but it didn't stop the hangs. Is there any thing I can do? And while I'm here! What do I do when I try to shut down my PC and get that little box that has to end a running program when I have closed all my windows? I have a Dell 4700, with windows XP home edition and explorer 6 service pack 2. I am also using Cox cable high speed broadband.
I currently update my Windows XP home edition os to SP2 after that when I on the desktop right clicking my system will hanged and i have to terminate it with task manager and re open it.
what i must do to fix this problem.I deleted the $uninstall..$ folders and can not reinstall my windows.
I can not access hard disk properties because Windows Explorer hangs whenever I Right click on a hard drive icon. I am running WXP pro SP2 completely up to date with updates.
I have a computer that quits explorer every time I try to click on the file menu, or right click on explorer and go to the new link. It also does this when i try to delete a folder in explorer or through my computer.
Whenever I right click a file, my PC hangs. I think some system file has been corrupted. Is there any fox for this apart from re-installing XP? I'm running XP Pro SP2 with all the updates.
When i right click on any file the windows hangs, but if i click the right mouse on the desktop its okay as long as you don't right click over a file, What is the solution for this?
As the title states, whenever I right click on a file, beit on the desktop or in a folder somewhere, it can take anywhere between 10 and 20 seconds before I can click on "Delete" or "Rename". When I try clicking on one of the two, my CD drive (or hard drive?) starts spinning and it won't let me click on my desired action until it's up to its "cruising speed" in RPM.
I have been recently having problems with my computer, revolving around the above program. Whenever I click on control panel from Start it hangs around for about 30-60 secs before saying 'Dr Watson Postmortum Debugger has encountered a serious error and needs to close'. Afterwards, the whole computer is totally frozen, and I have to perform a force shutdown. I currently use a Windows Xp 512mb ram Pentium 4.
I have window XP SP2 installed on my laptop. I also use InterVideo WinDVD Creator for video editing. Recently when I try to import video file into my application, my laptop, processing percentage goes up to 98%, and the application just freezes up. I also tried the Microsoft movie maker software and I get the same result. I was wondering if I need to reinstall the application or there is something that my laptop is missing. The application was functioning fine until 2 days ago, and since then I haven't installed any other application.
Often when I shutdown, I get the message that explorer.exe is not responding and I must hit end now to continue shutdown. This happens in safe mode as well as normal mode. Is this a problem? If so, how do I correct it. I use Windows XP and it is updated.
About a week ago my computer started to freeze up, but in a way of that it would just hang i knew it was the explorer.exe so i got rid of the process then started it back, and works for a little while till i start to go into the my computer then soon it would freeze, so i know that explorer.exe hangs when i go into my computer. So ive done alot of check and havent came back with anything, So ive tried that sfc /scannow, yeah that didnt work took like 15 mins then i restarted my computer, and still have the proplem.
After using Windows Explorer to view files and folders I get the following error message:Proxy Desktop - explorer.exe - Application error. The instruction 0x01f24213 referenced memory at 0x018dad58. The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate the program.I am using Win XP Home Ed with Service Pack 2 installed on a Dell Dimension 8200 with 512 MB memory. What is the simplest course for recovering from this problem. The program seems to work anyway.
Good morning, I have a couple of problems and I can't figure out how to get my computer back to where it used to be. I think it has something to do with updating windows. I get messages everytime I try to open a photo or a file. One message is Explorer EXE-Application Error, The instruction of ox600470a4 referenced memory at ox600470a4. The memory could not be written. Click on ok to terminate the program, click on cancel to debug the program. I clicked on debug and the program I got a message about Dr. Watson trying to communicate with ? and I clicked ok. Then the photo closed and all the icons disappeared and the reappeared. When I opened the same photo again, I got the following message. Data Execution Prevention-Microsoft Windows to help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program and also Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close, etc. Again the program shuts down. Basically, I can't open anything without the error messages. I can't copy cd's either as I have in the past with Nero. The program starts and then I get a read message or the cd just will not copy. Is there a way that I can do a restore and have my computer back to where it was 3 weeks ago? I could do that with my old computer Windows 98se. I have a HP Media M7060n now and I have XP home edition. Up to now I have had no problems. This computer is very different from my old one and I have no clue how I would do a restore. I just want a restore from 3 weeks ago, not a complete restore. I think the problem has to do with a windows update. I think I did one just before these problems occured. I lost my virus protection and had to reinstall it. I thought maybe that was the problem so I uninstalled it, but that wasn't it. So..here I am very frustrated. I know this post is long and I apologize. Thank you~Liz
I've only had this problem for the last month or so... during my bootup in winXP, after the blue welcome screen and its little jingle, the computer sits on by desktop background for over a minute before explorer.exe loads.
Sometimes but not always IE has been closing slowly, delayed. May have to wait up to 15 seconds before it closes sometimes less for tabs in the same window other times theey cloes immediately.
When attempting to browse folders using Explorer opened from Start Menu Or left click on start button, Explorer will allow click on "-" to close paths, but hangs with hour glass if any attempt is made to expand any path or open any file. Explorer remains in this state until closed, at which time Windows asks if I wish to report the problem to Microsoft. If I use the"My Computer" icon on the desktop to browse, all actions including access to networked resources work perfectly.explain the difference between the two file browsing utilities and offer an explanation of the above.
I am running windows xp pro and my internet explorer get hangs intermittenly. The following is the even log for IE hangs Hanging application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.6000.16876, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
The past week, when I visit particular Websites, they seem to 'hang', like they load to a certain point and then that's it, whilst most other websites are fine. I have run 3 different virus/adware programmes which haven't helped. I've also tried disabling/enabling the add-ons and I've looked at the system registry which still hasn't helped! The sites I'm having trouble with are www.bigpondmusic.com.au and www.ninemsnmusic.com.au and there is another music purchase website as well. I have installed all updates, and am running IE 6.0. Help! I am on the verge of Formatting my C drive just so that something will work!
I use IE 6 and Windows XP Pro. I keep 2 windows of IE open and 1 window aol open. Lately once a day almost every day one of my open ie windows will freeze. This usually happens when I go to a new site. The window will freeze and I just close the window, get the MS error msg, send the report, and then reopen the window and continue on. My computer does not freeze or lock up just one window becomes unreponsive. From Component Services Application here are the 2 error msgs Application Hang Event ID 1001 Description: Fault bucket 126637809.
I have two computers connected through a home network. One of the computers is very new and the other, two years old. Both run XP-SP2. I use one mouse for both computers - connected through a 2 port KVM switch. On the older machine, the mouse hangs after I close Internet Explorer. After a delay of a minute or so, it does come back most often. This does not ahppen on the new machine. Mouse does not seem to hang after I close other programs..(tested a few, but cant swear by it). This gets very annoying when I am in a rush.
I'm set up to run folder windows in a separate instance of Explorer for better stability. But When I close all the windows for the second instance of Explorer, the process frequently does not terminate. So then when I try to open another folder window, nothing happens. I have to quit Explorer manually to get it working again. This has happened several times now, and I'm getting tired of it. I'm running XP MCE 2002 Edition, all the latest updates.
I am no longer able to open Internet Explorer due some application inteference. The problem is not a connection problem. How do I determine the inteference and remove it so I can connect to Internet Explorer?
I have a serious problem with my laptop. I have a Windows XP Home Edition Compaq laptop and there is a message that keeps me from accessing my computer files that states the following:explorer.exe -Application Error: The instruction at "0x700000000" referenced memory at "0x700000000". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program Click on CANCEL to debug the program Then when I click on either choice, the desktop goes blank and I cannot access my start menu because whenever I try to do so, the message comes up again and sometimes the drwtsn32.dll (I think that's it) pops up on the screen. I would like some help and advice to fix this problem.
have a new installation of WinXP SP1. When i try to browse any folder, the explorer either hangs for a long time or crashes occasionally. This happens when my machine is connected to network. If my machine is off the network, it shows the folder contents immediately. I removed all the network shares connected to my machine and still the problem persists.
This problem surfaced when I was editing a movie, (in "Movieshop") playback became a problem. Although I don't believe that movieshop was the cause of the problem, during the edit process, outlook played a sound to tell me I had mail - there was none.I have tried to repair my o/s but I am still experiencing problems, including:"Unable to complete the operation on "Application/Security/System/Antivirus" the interface was unknown" when trying to read the event viewer. My drivers seem to have rolled back. Moviemaker crashes, microsoft say that this is due to my soundcard driver, I have updated and rolled back about 5 times - no change.Boot ups take forever, the "windows is starting up" screen sits for far too long.
I have a Dell desktop with XP operating system ram:- 2gb. It hangs up when you have offce database open, miscrosoft outlook and Internet Explorer open. Its strange how it happens only on my particular desktop and it doesnt happen when I access my profile on a different Personal Computer office. As soon as it freezes. Then it would nt work even if I log out and log in into my pc.
I have just installed Windows XP SP3 in my computer. Everything is normal except when i browse a folder that has image files (at least .jpg). It makes thw windows explorer hangs (stop responding) and i have to end it then restart it with task manager.
