I've only had this problem for the last month or so... during my bootup in winXP, after the blue welcome screen and its little jingle, the computer sits on by desktop background for over a minute before explorer.exe loads.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have upgraded all of our pcs to SP2 (WinXP). Since then only some of the pc's exhibit issue. SVCHOST maxes at 100% for 5-10 minutes on bootup then resumes normalcy. I've narrowed it down to the Internet Connection Firewall causing the issue (if I kill it the prob. goes away). I need to have this enabled. (Besides, why is it only happening on some machines and not others?)

View 1 Replies View Relatedall clients woke up and turned on their cpu only to have it hang on the 'black screen' just after the windows splash screen but just before the logon window. None of the <f8> options work. I booted with a genuine xp disk to drop to recovery console and performed various chkdsk /r commands as well as fixboot and fixmbr - no change.There are no errors, no blue screens, nothing to followup on. I even loaded the laptops hard drive into a tower as a secondary primary and scanned for pests viruses and the ilk - for the most part -clean
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows XP, and a number of system upgrades were downloaded and being installed during shutdown. Unfortunately, the power got turned off partway through this, and now the computer won't boot up. I tried putting the Windows CD in to run a repair installation, but it still gets stuck.I get the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, but when I press a key there are two lines of text that appear and disappear too quickly for me to read them, and then it goes to a blank screen with flashing cursor, and doesn't do anything else.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI run ScanDisk on a locked drive eg the drive with my op system and it suggests I run it at bootup, the bootup fails (and there is no Scan)- after the initial beep and basic b&w info, the screen just goes blank (no mouse pointer etc) - the red light flashes away on my PC box indicating a lot of hard drive activity though, but I've left it half an hour and it's got nowhere. Exactly the same happens if I instruct my anti-virus program to do a boot-time scan (Avast). My only recourse is to press F8 at bootup and select Start with Last Good Configuration and I can get back into Windows.

I restarted the computer like I was instructed to do and it booted up fine. explorer.exe shuts down about every minute or so and restarts. There's no error message or anything, just everything on my desktop disappears then re-appears. This only started happening today. It was working fine last night before I got hit with the spyware this morning. What could possibly be causing this and how do I fix it. My computer is basically useless in this condition

Have scanned for viruses (AVG), malware(Windows Defender), cleaned registry (CClean), defragmented hard drive, restored system to earlier point using both Windows system restore and HP Recovery Manager. HP support said only remaining solution is to reinstall Windows.

I have run 3 different virus/adware programmes which haven't helped. I've also tried disabling/enabling the add-ons and I've looked at the system registry which still hasn't helped! The sites I'm having trouble with are www.bigpondmusic.com.au and www.ninemsnmusic.com.au and there is another music purchase website as well. I have installed all updates, and am running IE 6.0. I have two computers connected through a home network. One of the computers is very new and the other, two years old.Both run XP-SP2. I use one mouse for both computers - connected through a 2 port KVM switch. On the older machine, the mouse hangs after I close Internet Explorer. After a delay of a minute or so, it does come back most often. This does not ahppen on the new machine. Mouse does not seem to hang after I close other programs..(tested a few, but cant swear by it). This gets very annoying when I am in a rush.

My computer keeps shutting down after less than a minute and gives some type error message,don't recall right now what it said,am not at the computer that is shutting down.What could be the problem? Seems like is says it is shutting down to protect itself or something.
