I did a clean install of Xp Home edition with SP2 and current updates and applications. There were no problems until I went to use the DVD playback feature in Nero Suite (Nero Showtime) the program had sound only, no video and after a few minutes it froze. The event log said ''Win XP error hanging App''. Why is this happening?? Is it another one of those Unknown error things with windows Xp?
View 10 RepliesI keep having applications hang when I try to search for image files. Apps that are hanging include Windows Explorer, Outlook Express, Adobe Photoshop, and Quark XPress. I've gotten the Dr. Watson debugger message whenever Explorer hangs. The applications hang as soon as I select the folder where my images are stored. It's not all folders, only some, and it seems to randomly pick when it will or will not work. I have tried rebooting and it seems to work sometimes, but then other times I reboot and have display issues, such as fonts not being recognized and email messages shown all in italics. As a workaround, I have rebooted and been able to go to Explorer, and drag a file to the desktop. Then it seems to be fine when I access from the desktop.
WMP 10 will not play completely through an mpg file without hanging every few seconds.It seems like it is having a buffering problem but these short 3 minute mpgs have never caused a problem before. I tried downloading WMP10 again nothing changed.Is there a buffer setting that might have changed? I have 2G RAM and these files are little. I'm completely up to date on all MS updates.

I then shut my computer down to restart it, used it a few times (in 4-bit safe mode), then after I shutdown again, I cant log back in... it just freezes and the screen flashes, I cannot boot into my computer setup (default f2) or into safe mode (default f8), however I can run the XP cd and get into the recovery console, is there any way that I can change the boot sequence from the recovery console? The screen is dotted with a bunch of dots up and down the screen in columns, and is in 4-bit video mode.

"Error: Cant enter setup. Video Mode 103 not supported by this video card."
PC has recently started hanging in a particularly strange way. Most commonly, the screen blinks to black, then comes back, and the PC is frozen not even Num Lock will turn off. Sometimes however, it doesn't do the blink and just stops. This seems completely random, and isn't to do with any particular software that's running at the time. The only evidence is this entry in the Event Viewer - System Log: The browser service has failed to retrieve the backup list too many times on transport DeviceNetBT_Tcpip_{FF038570-7316-4F6A-8817-2B5B9C597E73}. The backup browser is stopping. And The browser was unable to retrieve a list of servers from the browser master \H_LPTP1 on the network DeviceNetBT_Tcpip_{FF038570-7316-4F6A-8817-2B5B9C597E73}. The data is the error code. H_LPTP1 is my laptop, usually on the network, but it isn't even switched on.

She's had it for about six months now and earlier today upon startup it hung for a very long time (about 20 minutes). She rebooted it to the same results. I tried doing the only thing I knew how which was booting it in safe mode, which gave me a brief flash of a blue screen before restarting. I went to safe mode again so I could make out what the error message was before the computer restarted itself and I saw that it said KERNEL_INPAGE_DATA_ERROR. There's an error number at the bottom, but the screen flashes by so fast that I can't make it out. Anyway, it's been a few hours and startup is still hanging. I have tried booting it in the last good settings mode and nothing seems to work. I'm not very PC savvy (yes, I am a mac user :P) and my limited knowledge doesn't really help in this situation. I asked her if she had deleted any files which might cause a startup problem and she said that she hadn't. She uses the computer strictly for her iPod, printing papers, and burning the occasional CD. There are a few harmless games which have been downloaded for a long time now, but I don't think that she recently installed any software that could cause a kernel inpage data error, whatever that is. Her most recent piece of installed software is for her new phone, but even that was a week ago. When this problem started, the laptop wasn't very hot so I don't think that would be a problem either.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter buying and installing the new hardware i'm now having some issues. Everything was fine for weeks but now sometimes i get an error message. This is the 2nd time this has happened. Everything starts up as per normal but once it comes to the Windows screens (desktop) i get a blue screen with the error message: So i pretty much need to restart the pc and it goes back to normal. All hardware and software has been checked time and time again. All seems to be ok. Bar the dvd drive. The dvd drive doesn't let me access it, however if i put a dvd, audio or data cd in then autoplay takes over and asks if i want to play it or whatever. But if i want to open it by double clicking or selecting open after right-clicking then it doesn't allow it. I get the error message: d: not accssible. Incorrect function.

I have Windows XP 2000 and yeah it can be a bit slow but I admit my laptop is a piece of junk, I have never had this problem, no recent applications or unusual downloads. When ANY of the following messages appear, I close the window that pops up and it closes whatever window I was browsing the inet with. Now, to make a long story short...Did a safe boot...nothing...closed all running applications and software using task manager when doing so..(closing anti-virus, firewalls disabled and spyware detectors and all). still nothing. Updated ATI driver...nothing.........
i had was my motherboard cpu fan not working in its cpu fan pin, so instead i have it hooked up to a case fan pin. I am not sure if this means i have a faulty mobo or not.
I installed my brand new Creative sound card, I installed its software and drivers all fine and the PC restarted fine. Next creative wanted to update the drivers and I let it. After it was done installling the new drivers it needed a restart. On restart I could not even get to the post screen and was displayed with an error saying USB over current, PC shutdown in 20 seconds. At first i could not get past this error at all, so i tried taking out the sound card and putting inserting it again. I did not get the USB error now and was happy.
I played Battlefield 2142 for a few hours then shut it down. Now today when i get home from work and turn it on i saw that USB over current error again and got frusterated. After taking the sound card out and putting it back in I had some new problems. I only saw my Asus Splash screen saying "press delete to enter setup" although pressing delete did nothing, it just hung on that screen.

For Example, I have .avi file called A B C; the explorer closes whenever file A is in the folder. When it's out of the folder, the explorer works just fine without closing. I use Matroska pack codec, is this the problem? I remember on the error message says something about the codec is not compatible?

Decided to try the on board again, worked.Now it said there was a boot error at drive B. I didnt think I had a drive mapped to B.I ran a DOS boot disk and did a fdisk and it said there were no fixed drives, so I figured that it was a bad HD, got a new HD, changed it, still a problem. I have to start out with the DOS disk then I can pop in a Win2K boot disk and tryed to install. Cant find the setup or install file on Boot Disk 1. Wont boot from CD to install 2K.

The video footage is saved on my PC as .mpg files & when I open them, they play fine on Windows Media Player.When I import them on to Windows Movie Maker, they are recognised as video footage and I am able to put them into the collections as video. However, for some reason, when I drag them onto the timeline, they go onto the audio line & I can't get them to go on the video line, so when I play it, the sound plays but there is no picture. I have tried saving them as .AVI files but that makes no difference

Recently when I try to import video file into my application, my laptop, processing percentage goes up to 98%, and the application just freezes up. I also tried the Microsoft movie maker software and I get the same result. I was wondering if I need to reinstall the application or there is something that my laptop is missing. Use fine, then after its been on for awhile it goes black again. Weird. I have the newest drivers and all the windows updates loaded. It just keeps going out. I have tried several screens as well to rule out the monitor freaking out.
