Defragmentation Catagery - Files Volume

Aug 7, 2006

I defragment about every month or so. Well, In the past three months every time I defrag it will come back with a message that says " Some files on this volume could not be defragmented". Blah Blah Blah. So, Naturally, I click view Report. And in the Files that did not defragment category, there is nothing there. I don't know what could cause this.

Invisible Files On Hard Drive: Ome Files In The Volume Wont Defragmented?

Dec 29, 2007

Now however, my hard drive seems to contain approx 13GB of data which I am unable to locate, even when viewing the "hidden files" option. I first noticed this increased used space when I wanted to defragment the hard drive and noticed that there was only 45% free space available (there is usually 75%).I have viewed the properties of all the folders on the C: drive and they do not add up to the 20GB shown on the C: drive properties...The defragment report states that "some files in the volume could not be defragmented"

Defragmentation Stopped And Started Again

Sep 19, 2004

I have never been good at understanding how to successfully run defragmentation. I know it's a good idea to do so on occasion so it keeps your computer in tip-top shape but in all the systems I've had in the past, Windows 95 and Windows 98, it just seemed like it never would complete. AND it took forever!

You'd see the percentage of it increasing and then all of a sudden, it started over. I'd have everything "closed" but I guess there were applications running in the background.

Slow Computer And Defragmentation - Filecompression

Sep 8, 2006

My XP home running PC is running really slowly. I have been using PC Pitstop optimise and adaware spywareblaster etc to try and keep things clear. I hadn't defraged for a month or so so have tried to do a diskclean and defrag. Filecompression is running but really slowly about 15 mins per percentage point.I have defraged (it is showing 30% defragmentisation) it said the defrag was done but the analysis still shows the same amout of red files.

Cannot Delete Files - Name - Directory Or Volume Label Syntax Incorrect

Oct 29, 2007

i have 2 files in my portable hard drive which is taking about 6G space on it

File #1: æ╤ÚQÂó].wÑ╟ (size = 1.02 G)
File #2: jßg?ì?Æ.H┘ó (size = 3.17G)

these files i can't delete , rename, and move them. this is the message i get when i try: "file name, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect" I have read one subject about this issue in this great forum but the solutions was not helpful. Read the thread here related article i have used the following software: Unloker, Emco Move On Boot

I think the above software can work only on local hard drives not portable hard drives>

Right Click Drive Defragmentation - Registry Editor

Oct 8, 2002

there's two ways of achieving this. The easy way:
1. Create a .reg file and name it to whatever you think might fit. (create an empty .txt-file and rename it to whatever.reg)
2. Rightclick it and choose "edit".
3. Paste the following into it:Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTDriveshellDefragCommand]@="defrag.exe %1 -f -v"
4. Save and close.
5. Doubleclick it and answer yes/ok to the questions.
6. Rightclick a drive and choose 'Defrag' to defragment it......

Other Volume Bars Control The Main Volume

Nov 7, 2007

i would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of msn m. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by Internet, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m.

Volume Is Dirty

Nov 27, 2006

While exiting a game I had a system freeze and had to shut my computer down (pulled the plug). Upon restart I got the message "the volume is dirty" and check disk ran. Is this something I should be concerned about? I think I found the right log for it in the event viewer "Winlogon, event 1001" but don't understand whats written in it. Can anyone help me out here? Tell me what a dirty volume is, tell me if there is anything of concern in the log, tell me if I should let it concern me or not?

For some strange reason, my volume keeps getting muted. When I open the VOLUME CONTROL, the MUTE ALL box is checked, so I uncheck it. Then, a little while later it happens again. This had been going on for about a week now and it's very frustrating. Especially when you're in the middle of a game or spomething and all of a sudden, theres no sound.

New Keyboards Can't Control Volume

Jul 6, 2005

Situation: Had MS Natural Keyboard Pro PS2 with the media keys working just fine. Problem... it's a white keyboard and all my stuff is now black or silver. Okay, get a new keyboard, MS Wireless Natural Keyboard. Uninstalled and reinstalled old/new software. ONly problem, the new keyboard can't control volume up/down. It can mute/unmute and all other special keys work.

where the link is that ties those keys in to the main volume control in registery. Here's something interesting: If I plug the old PS2 keyboard in, no drivers, XP recoginizes and all media keys work fine on it including volume. If I keep both keyboards installed simultaneously they both work fine and control everything EXCEPT the new one can't raise/lower the volume, just mute.

It would not let me delete C: because it said there were files that were needed for the setup, arent they supposed to be on the disk? So it couldnt delete, but i continued and installed it on that partition (C: ) thinking that after words it will ask me to format. IT didnt.. and i now have 2000 and XP installed and i dont wanna multiboot. I tried going run the format c:, but it wouldnt let me heres wat it said: Format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Format may run if this volume is dismounted first. ALL OPEN HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. WOuld you like to force a dismount on this volume y/n. If put y or n it just closes either way. What do i do??? Im new this.
