Apr 23, 2005I cant find the volume controls and the control panel doesn't help. the volume control icons are gone. my volume just remains the same sound ?

Other Volume Bars Control The Main Volume
Nov 7, 2007i would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of msn m. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by Internet, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m.

I can't figure out which GPOs to set to allow ActiveX to install/run for specific content/sites. Is there a way to use Group Policies to allow ActiveX content to run on Trusted Sites? Jan 23, 2010A Vostro Dell laptop protected by ESET--was apparently infected and shut down. I used a rescue disc to disable the malware, but computer would still not allow log in. Then I used the OEM Windows XP Home Edition disc that came with the computer to boot and then repair. Computer then booted and seemed to be working well. I uninstalled ESET (license was soon to expire) and installed Norton 360 and ran a comprehensive scan. Norton reported that it quarantined four files, one of them a trojan.
Computer now seems to be operating well with one exception. The malware had removed the desktop background photo. When I went to Display properties/Desktop to select a photo for display, the browse and position controls were grayed out and not functioning. By right clicking on the icon for a jpeg file, I can set it as desktop background; but I cannot control the position: center, stretch, tile.

I'm the go to guy for tech problems amongst all of my friends and I've discovered that I'm not the only person with one of these explorer.exe bugs.Firstly I know that explorer.exe is the Windows service controls the UI and allows you to browse files, have icons on your desktop and have a taskbar. However of late bugs have been appearing that are causing it to malfunction in ways that shouldn't be possible.

Jun 15, 2005So i was trying to make some room on y C drive and i guess i deleted some files that i shouldn't To make a long story short now my volume control thingy that stays on my taskbar has dissapeared.When i go to the control panel and to sounds and audio devices and i get in there and there is an icon with the option to place volume icon on the taskbar but when i click on that i get 'windows cannot display the volume control on the task bar because the volume control program has not been installed. After several tries i figured i deleted the windows file soundvol32.exe but how the hell do i get it back and put it in its right place?I have no idea where it would go? Anybody have an idea how i can install that back? I tried using my windows cd but since i put service pack 2 on it it said that the version of windows i had on the cd was older than my current version.

packs.
Symantec Internet Security gives the following error:
Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls
on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly.
I checked the Symantec site for info. This led me to run services.msc,
and I received the same message. I have set everything to default
without result. I cannot find any useful information in the MS
knowledge base or through Google.
Any ideas before I wipe out this install and start over with Fedora Core?
Lost IE Icon And Sound Controls Icon From Taskbar?
Nov 7, 2006no IE icon on desktop or in programs. i have internet access through verizon. i recently got windows update to install IE7 in the hope that would restore the icon/program but the only way i can access the internet is via the verizon browser. i clearly installed IE7 because now the "sidebar" of my verizon browser says that "sidebar i currently not compatible with IE7...". so why can't i get the IE7 icon in my program list or desktop?

Nov 27, 2006While exiting a game I had a system freeze and had to shut my computer down (pulled the plug). Upon restart I got the message "the volume is dirty" and check disk ran. Is this something I should be concerned about? I think I found the right log for it in the event viewer "Winlogon, event 1001" but don't understand whats written in it. Can anyone help me out here? Jul 6, 2005Situation: Had MS Natural Keyboard Pro PS2 with the media keys working just fine. Problem... it's a white keyboard and all my stuff is now black or silver. Okay, get a new keyboard, MS Wireless Natural Keyboard. Uninstalled and reinstalled old/new software. ONly problem, the new keyboard can't control volume up/down. It can mute/unmute and all other special keys work.

Here's something interesting: If I plug the old PS2 keyboard in, no drivers, XP recoginizes and all media keys work fine on it including volume. If I keep both keyboards installed simultaneously they both work fine and control everything EXCEPT the new one can't raise/lower the volume, just mute.
