Suddenlly I have to enter my UserID and password on every site I frequent? This happened a week or so ago and it's a pain. Does this have something to do with cookies? If so, how do I change the settings so this doesn't happen?
View 8 RepliesUsing XP Pro SP2.Windows explorer doesn't show c:documents and settings/jdl/cookies folder when opened from the start->programs menu.However, Start->Run with c:documents and settingsjdlcookies typed in opens the folder. Folder options->View has the "Show hidden folders" option checked.I do not have the windows xp disk since the program was loaded from a corporate server several years ago. I no longer work for that company.Any assistance would be appreciated. Not a big deal since I can access the folder. It may, however, indicate that other problems are afoot. I discovered this when Counterspy Ver. 2 Beta identified the cookie from CNET Networks, Inc., and I couldn't find it in Windows Explorer.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThree days ago I boot up my PC and found something strange. The appearance was "set" as Classic. Ok, so far it didn't bother me. When I tried to change it back, I DID NOT HAVE THE OPTION! What disturbed me the most was that I had no internet connection. I checked the internet properties and my network settings were in blank. I checked the moden, and the "DSL" light was off. I don't want to imagine I have to reinstall Windows (XP); I've installed some software I (bought) downloaded and don't want to lose it. What can be wrong with my PC? I remember last time I turn it off was fine.

So I deleted most of them, but kept show desktop and outlook express. I fiddled with the toolbar settings (address, links, windows media player etc.)and now I've lost my quick launch option entirely! everytime I try to check that toolbar, it closes the menu and nothing happens. How do I get quick launch back?

I would love an icon on the desktop that I could click when I arrive at work that would start IE and Firefox, change their proxy settings to 'On' and then close the programs. Similarly, when I get home, I would like to click another icon to do the reverse.

Every time he loaded the game, it was illegible. In trying to change the display settings to make them compatible with the game, he chose this odd resolution (which was now available for some reason) for the desktop display settings, and now nothing can be read on the screen.

Just USB driver, modem is connected by the USB cable and sometimes I can hear this sound in winXP that its disconnected and connected again(the sound you get when you unplug/plug in a USB device). After a while of plugging /unplugging, my internet connection just disappears. two new computers a router and networked the home. I have the host computer and my children are each on wireless as clients. Both children can access internet, but only 1 can access printer. I actually figured out the problem that's huge as I'm a network idiot. My son's computer (can't use printer) is using my old computer with MY name on it. I am on the new computer with MY name on it. So when he tries to access the printer it doesn't know where to go. I have windows xp HOME and from what I see I can't change the name on his computer the folder immediately under documents & settings). I followed instructions to copy from one folder to another (ie, Mine to his) using a 3rd administrator account. I could copy any account but mine.

Now I can't boot up (cold or warm) without using the original disk. Can I just go into setup and change boot settings without re-installing.Is there anything else I should know before I attempt to fix this problem? I went to Disk Cleanup up and deleted all Temp and Temp internet files, but the images are still there. I checked Properties of the images for the file names, went to Win Explorer, but only found C:Documents and Settingsuser, there was no subfolder for Local Settings and, obviously nothing after that. I did a Search in Explorer, including hidden files and folders, for the file names and the searches resulted in nothing. I am back to deleting one-by-one, but my concern is, Where did everything from Local Settings on go to. BTW, I also run Skybot, Adaware and Norton virus weekly

I'm having a major problem with XP Home Edition. When I start my computer, I get the Loading Settings screen, which automatically switches to the Saving Settings screen and then goes back to Loading Settings, Saving Settings, etc, etc, (the "Windows XP Startup" and "Windows XP Shutdown" sounds repeat themselves one right after the other). By the way, I have the XP tweak that skips the Welcome and log on screens at startup since I'm the only person that uses the computer. I've tried Debugging, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Restore To Last Working Settings and a few others, but nothing is working. I ran Spybot just before shutting down the computer the last time it worked and got the "Congratulations! Your system contains no spyware" message. When I restarted the computer, I started having this problem. I also have Norton Anti Virus 2004 and did a Live Update (manually) a few hours before this started happening.
