Jun 6, 2005
Trying to fix a cpu that has some blaster like symptoms and some other weird stuff going on. I've run McAfee, Spyware Doctor, and tried Symantec's FixBlaster but it says it didn't find it. how to clean Anything weird in the Hijack log
I am running XP on a dell D610 laptop (new) When I access the internet by send/recieve in outlook or through explorer. Its taking up to five minutes to access pages or email. I am already connected !! I noticed that as soon as I execute send/recieve the CPU shoots up to 100% and stays there. When the CPU drops it connects. After the initial tedium things work OK until I log off or restart the laptop. I am currently in a remote location and have to use dial up. However the office PC seems to connect without these symptons.
this is a problem that I've been having for months now, I can't figure out what's really causing it so far.Symptoms1 - When deleting video files (.avi, .mpg) they will do one of three things.a. The file will delete fine. b. The file will delete fine, then a few seconds, will re-appear in it's original location, and will be untouchable. Cannot be deleted, opened, moved, renamed, etc.. You will get an access denied error from windows stating that the file is in use.c. The file just won't delete in the first place. See above 'untouchable 2 - Moving files gives very similar results. I won't ever get the initial error that the file is in use. The file will move, but will then be in both locations. The folder I move the file to will be normal - deletable, openable, etc.. but the one in the original location will be untouchable. Sometimes, the file will appear to move fine, but in a few seconds, will re-appear, untouchable, in the original location, same as above
hp media center pc 864n , windows xp, have checked al wires, plugs, turned off , restarted etc keep getting disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter
I am using XP on my laptop, tried to boot up my computer and it was extremely extremely slow. Took maybe 15-20 minutes to get started. When the desktop finally came up, it was in a bad resolution. The cursor would move fine, but if i tried to click on anything it would pretty much completely freeze up.Id maybe be able to minimize a window, but no program would open at all.I don't really know what to do since it is pretty much impossible to do anything on the computer.I checked my hard drive in the computer BIOS and it didn't report any problems. Not really sure what my next step should be.I have a lot of information on my computer that i really can't lose, but don't really know how to back anything up at this point. What can i do?
I have run my adaware, spybot, and virus scan....nothing comes up...but my computer is running very slow....I need to know why pages aren't loading as fast as they were.
I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my parents' PC. They have WinXP, 512MB RAM, and a 1.2 GHz cpu. They've had a problem wth spyware in the past and have had it cleaned up, but it still boots up extremely slow. Usually it's around ten minutes or so until you can finally do anything on it, and even then, applications seem to take a while to start up and run slow after they do. Is there something I can do to see what's the matter with it?
I downloaded EZ Trust Antivirus 2005, but am not able to install it on my Windows XP 2002, Service pack 2, Dell Optiplex Dim2400. The original download was done on my personal desktop and then copied to "admin" desktop. The error message is "You do not have authority to run this program, please log on as administrator." This error appears even in safe mode and even when I am logged on as administrator.
I want to install trend micro antivirus, but every time i try to install it it says norton 2003 is interupting it. Then i try to uninstall norton 03 and it says "Fatal Eror".
I need some real help here because I am baffled. I installed Panda Titanium antivirus 2005 on my bosses computer. When I went to restart it after the install it wouldn't restart it would get stuck at the blue welcome screen. Tried booting it into safe mode and it wouldn't even boot there. So finally I had to use the Windows XP disk and do a recovery. Well when I did that she lost all of her applications. I had to reload Office, Adobe, and it said that the Panda Antivirus was not installed correctly. So I tired to reinstall it and I get an error of Class not registered.I hoping not to have to do format and reinstall Windows Xp but I think there is some corruption in the computer.
I have run norton antivirus. I have gone to msconfig and deslected all of the startup programs. I am using windows xp proffessional on one computer and xp home on another. What is slowing these computers down, and how do I fix them?
I've been having trouble with my computer freezing once it has been on for a while (>1hr 30 min), the mouse at first goes slow, then stops, and it also freezes sometimes whenever i put the capslock on (Weird, I know). I just reformatted my computer to solve the problem, installed Norton Anti-virus 2005, and defragmented it after all the windows update stuff was installed
i have had something on my pc for sometime now. i am unable to get rid of it. i have tried norton antivirus, trend micro, spy sweeper, adaware.all programs detect threats, remove them, but the problems keep coming back. it started out as random pop ups on my computer. then, a few days ago i realized i could not access my task manager or my control panel. i get an error stating that the 'task manager has been disabled by administrator' and 'the program has been disabled due to restrictions on your computer. contact administrator.'
After searching some searching, I am unable to find threads that will assist me with this. But i would really appreciate some direction on how to "unclog" my laptop. Windows XP Pro, 1gb Ram, 80 Gb hardrive (maybe the size is the prob?), Adaware CCleaner, AVG Free. AVG Spyware, Zonealarm.
When I turn on my computer, it does the bios check, then goes into the bios screen on its own. I have checked all of the bios settings, and see nothing set wrong. The only way I can get itno my xp pro system, is to use "F8" during the bios check, the select my hd from there, then it seems only half of my programs work, and it also seems to be randomly changing the programs that do not work, when I do this.
After uninstalling a number of suspect programs, I ran my anti stuff, AdAware SE, Ewido, Spybot, Ccleaner, AVG, Stinger, CWShredder and Housecall. Got rid of a lot of Trojans & spyware. There is still a suspect, something called DMVLite, cant seem to uninstall this one. Google search only led me to do an HJT log. Not to sure I want to do that.I also tried to uninstall a program called DVD Sentry, but it said the Windows Installer 3.1 was missing.
Maybe most important issue. Ran Belarc, said it is missing 40 critical updates ! There is a Windows Update Shield that says it has a download to install. KB888162,it detects if SP2 is properly installed, it is NOT.Wants me to uninstall SP2. When I go to uninstall, I get all these, cannot copy files. My question is, is it OK to click cancel on these cannot copy, since I cant seem to do anything else anyway.
I recently started going to a few classes at my local Community Colege and a class on computer literacy is giving away copies of Windows XP Pro. All interested students sign a EULA and we were given a copy on cd with key code. Most of the other students used it to upgrade from prior os. I was told it is a full copy, so I allowed a clean install with it formating my hard drive to NTFS from the old fat32.Anyway, everytime I use Internet Explorer it gives error code " duplicate memory at line 945.
Abort, retry, Ignore?" No mater what I hit it eithr repeats or says " Windows Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and will now close" and gives option to send error report. So, I tried installing Service Pack 2 from a cd that I had ordered from Microsoft. I got the following error "Service Pack 2 cannot update a checked(debug) system with a a free(retail) version of service pack2 or vice versa"Is there anything I could do to straighten this out? What is a checked(debug) system anyway?I did download a debug version of service pack 2 but Internet explorer still gives errors. Auto Update will download updates, but they all FAIL. Anything I can do? I would like to know what debug system is and if it is even worth having.
I am using Acer TravelMate 5720. Till yesterday everything was working fine. But from today when i close the laptop lid the system does not goes into standby. i checked the settings in Power options. There i kept it to standby option only.Me using XP with SP2.
i already did trend micro free scan and here my hijack this file Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.0Scan saved at 5:28:05 AM, on 1/5/2005 Platform: Windows 2000 SP4 (WinNT 5.00.2195) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106)
I'm working on a Pav zt1130. Upon boot the message "A disk read error occured Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". I've checked the BIOS and it does appear to be seeing the HD. I've changed the boot order and attempted to boot from WinXP Home CD. It displays the "Setup is checking your configuration" message, then nada. The user said that it was running fine yesterday, but she booted this a.m. and received this message. She had a non-bootable floppy and a non-bootable CD in, but I've not seen that to cause this problem. Just a coincidence? HD failure the real culprit?
Need Suggestions on Which Applications Can be Un-Checked (as listed by: MsConfig.exe application) for Windows - XP Pro
I installed Windows XP Professional on my unit and then ran the MsConfig.exe file, to check which processes / applications got loaded at Start-Up. The list is too big and quite difficult to figure out as to which items are good and which are useless.
I have created a WordPad file, wherein image files of Screens have been pasted. The two files are
In adding and removing components,I have the fax services that i want to eliminate which is 3.8MB. How do you delete/start. And if you delete is the size 3.8MB also eliminated, because in one case the IE6 is not checked and the size is 0.0MB. Confused Even though my IE6 is functioning properly. OS XP Home SP2
If you have too many things checked on the startup menu when you run msconfig it will slow your computer down. While I can figure some of those things out, there are a lot of them I have no idea what they run. How can I find out what is neccessary or not?
Back about three weeks ago, in an effort to speed up my start-up on my computer, I ran Cleaner. It identified all the start up things. I went through one by one and disabled those that I had checked on a registry database. Unfortunately one of the first I disable was USERINIT.EXE.Now, as some of you may know, I can't login to my computer! I can power on, and try to log in, the windows attempts to load my preferences, and then logs out. Over the past several weeks, I have tried in vain to get some helpful suggestions on how to remedy the situation, but obviously my range of knowledge in dealing with this type of problem isn't strong enough to figure it all out. It was suggested by a friend that I just do a ffr, but quite frankly, I see that as a last ditch effort. I have files on the computer, that I really don't want to lose. And it seems that as I know what the problem is....there must be someway to fix it without going to the extreme. As my computer is 3-4 yrs old, my windows CD was only for SP1, and I don't think that would help....although I don't really know.
Running XP Professional and the sound is muted. In the control panel in Sounds and Audio DevicesVolume the mute box is checked and will not clear. Is there a registry setting that is causing this or can this be set elsewhere?
