Blue Screen After Installing Service Pack 2: Screen Freezed/ Restarted?
Jan 18, 2008I have a celeron/p4 machine with 256 RAM and 160 G Hard Disk. Well i installed a service pack 2 for xp. After installing my screen freezed so i restarted the pc and I got a blue screen. What can i do please?

Apr 10, 2006I've just run defrag on my C drive which went without any hitches but afterwards trying to run AVG (free) virus checker caused the computer to produce a blue screen and restarted XP. I uninstalled AVG, reinstalled and it still crashed XP when run after the clean reinstall. Then ran Checkdisk (CHKDSK) from within XP which appeared to work fine until it got to Where it's been stuck like that for over 2 hours... is this length of pause normal? Is it safe to do a forced restart of XP?

Oct 21, 2007I was given an older machine that had win me installed. It was full of junk and would crash often. So I downloaded a startup disk for formating Win-Me. I ran thru the process - formated the hard drive or so it seemed but when I tried to install winxp it would go thru the process and then get a blue screen stop message. When I restarted the machine I got the message "hard drive capable but disabled". There are ways to enable the drive but you need an operating system to do that. The cd rom on this machine is scsi and I am not familiar with that process. Is there a way to enable a hard drive with out the operating system? The drive is an ultra DMA-mode 4.

Apr 2, 2008Whenever I try to boot up Windows, in any mode, it gives me a blue screen that tells me to disable any anti-virus or disk defragmenter software, but I can't do that, because it won't let me boot up my computer into Windows! Oct 8, 2006I downloaded some automatic updates and restarted my puter as instructed. However, when I restarted the computer it continuosly restarted and restarted just as it got to the desktop. So I started up in safe mode thinking i could restore back to before I installed the updates. But it seems W2k doesn't have this capability, so i uninstalled the latest Windows update I found on my puter. Okay, I can get to the desktop but my Internet connection no longer works and the browser just keeps popping open windows like it has constant hiccups or something. I bought this puter second hand so I don't have any disks or anything. Does anyone have any ideas? Are these components I uninstalled located somewhere on the HD where i can retrieve them and maybe undo this mess?

Apr 7, 2007When I turn on my computer, it does the bios check, then goes into the bios screen on its own. I have checked all of the bios settings, and see nothing set wrong. The only way I can get itno my xp pro system, is to use "F8" during the bios check, the select my hd from there, then it seems only half of my programs work, and it also seems to be randomly changing the programs that do not work, when I do this.

May 19, 2006I don't know what happened, one day i came home, started my pc, then it just hung on the windows xp pro boot screen. I don't know what happen. I didn't do anything before, like install anything,or unistall, or did any hardware changes. My computer now just stays on the screen where there are those bars that move near the bottom. The bars still move, but it won't load onto the welcome screen. I've been waiting for like 20 mins, but still won't go onto boot screen. Anyone got any ideas on whats happening?

Dec 2, 2009For the first time, about an hour ago, while starting-up, the cursor and screen froze. Until just now, it never happened on my PC before but I've had it many times at the Internet Cafe. When it happened, I always pressed the 3 keys: Crl, Alt and Delete and the PC would turn-off and re-boot but with my PC, it refused to re-boot after pressing for a half-hour. It showed "Windows Task Manager" where the message kept appearing. "Application Error" which kept flashing endlessly. The cursor froze in the center of the screen intermittently an hourglass flashed-on. This continued for over 1 hour. What is a fast way to re-boot when the cursor freezes ? I've used iMacs for years at the Apple Store and I never had a "Frozen" screen. Is this just a Windows problem? Does the new Windows 7 also "crash"?

Mar 22, 2008My laptop comp always froze everytime the cpu cooling fan starts making noises. I think the problem is related to an program/appliocation or server that catched a virus through it. I had the laptop fixed once from the shop and the problem still exist with continuing usage of the same applications/programs. Feb 10, 2008i started installing Windows XP. I first did a reformat from WXP cd of my HDD after which XP copied some files to it. It then said it was gonna restard after 15 seconds that went by and restart after.It asked to press a key to restard from the CD but I didn't and the install should have kept on going on from there But the screen just stayed black with no activity going on at all. No beep, no restart,no CD spinning, but all fan running. I restart a few time,even restard the install always with the same result. Everything goed fine until the first restart happen.

Sep 12, 2008. I have a two year old dell dimension e310 desktop computer that has 'never' had a problem...until last night. After installing a game online for my son (from gametap) the game was running very slow and then just froze on the screen. I tried every way to shut the game off...couldn't...it was just stuck. I tried ctl-alt-delete expecting the task manager to appear....nothing... At that point I resorted to just shutting off the main switch. When I turned it back on a couple of minutes later it tried to start normally...then a blue screen comes up that says a 'problem has been detected and windows has been forced to shut down....etc'.. It read it and it instructed me to press f 8 and try to start in 'safe mode'

Sep 15, 2006earlier today I was installing Perfect Disk and right at the end of the installation, my computer restarted. After that each time Windows started up it would only get as far as the "Loading Personal Settings" part and it would restart again before I even get a chance to see my desktop.Figuring it was something to do with the failed installation of Perfect-disk, I entered Windows in safe mode (Without any restarts) and I disabled the loading of anything related to Perfect Disk.This didn't fix the problem and I tried disabling every single program on start up and that didn't fix anything either.I've attached the dump files from the Mini dump folder if that helps with the problem.

I removed and reconnected the battery to shut down and restart.Well, since then my computer has been unbearably slow. Every task from start-up (20 minutes, if at all) to loading Firefox (10 minutes) in awful. There are times where nothing even loads, all I see is my background and a cursor, nothing more.On the lucky chance that I do get everything up and running, it is slow to the point where even the clock is behind other clocks around me (cable box, other laptop) by 8-20 or so minutes.

Dec 4, 2008I have a HP Pavilon with Windows XP Medica Center Edition SP2. I had to have the hard drive replaced recently and restored everything from the HP CDs. It worked fine for awhile until a couple of days ago the computer froze and when it started up again the desktop was back to the original after that the computer came with.
I've installed all of the security updates except for SP3, ran Hijack THis, Spybot, AVG and it all came back clean
FAT32 Checking For Consistency?
Mar 9, 2006When I start my computer it goes to a screen saying "checking file system FAT32" and then proceeds to check disks and says "one of your disks needs to be checked for consitency" then it runs through the process to 100% and is up an running after that. My question is why is it suddenly doing that and does that signify a problem? Do you need a HJT log of my system?

Computer Restarted: Wont Load User Profile / Corrupt?
Dec 24, 2007my computer will just reboot itself every couple of days. When it asks for my password, it says it cannot display my profile because of an error or maybe a corrupt file (but not in those words exactly). The computer says it will give me a temporary profile but if it is rebooted, anything that I have saved on this temporary profile will go away forever. This is true?
