Does Not Goes Into Standby - Settings Checked
Jul 4, 2009I am using Acer TravelMate 5720. Till yesterday everything was working fine. But from today when i close the laptop lid the system does not goes into standby. i checked the settings in Power options. There i kept it to standby option only.Me using XP with SP2.

Apr 7, 2007When I turn on my computer, it does the bios check, then goes into the bios screen on its own. I have checked all of the bios settings, and see nothing set wrong. The only way I can get itno my xp pro system, is to use "F8" during the bios check, the select my hd from there, then it seems only half of my programs work, and it also seems to be randomly changing the programs that do not work, when I do this.

Nov 7, 2007i would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of msn m. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by Internet, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m.

Jun 15, 2005So i was trying to make some room on y C drive and i guess i deleted some files that i shouldn't To make a long story short now my volume control thingy that stays on my taskbar has dissapeared.When i go to the control panel and to sounds and audio devices and i get in there and there is an icon with the option to place volume icon on the taskbar but when i click on that i get 'windows cannot display the volume control on the task bar because the volume control program has not been installed. After several tries i figured i deleted the windows file soundvol32.exe but how the hell do i get it back and put it in its right place?I have no idea where it would go? Anybody have an idea how i can install that back? I tried using my windows cd but since i put service pack 2 on it it said that the version of windows i had on the cd was older than my current version.

Apr 1, 2006I found images in Windows Picture and Fax viewer that I want to delete. I can delete them one-by-one, but that takes time. I went to Disk Cleanup up and deleted all Temp and Temp internet files, but the images are still there. I checked Properties of the images for the file names, went to Win Explorer, but only found C:Documents and Settingsuser, there was no subfolder for Local Settings and, obviously nothing after that. I did a Search in Explorer, including hidden files and folders, for the file names and the searches resulted in nothing. I am back to deleting one-by-one, but my concern is, Where did everything from Local Settings on go to. BTW, I also run Skybot, Adaware and Norton virus weekly

Documents and Settings it has added Dave.U5R2D5 in addition to Dave which still has all the information. I tried switching the 2 Filenames to get back to what it used to be but gave an error message and didn't do it and started another new file.Is there some way to use the old Dave file?
Loading Settings Saving Settings Startup
Sep 11, 2004I'm having a major problem with XP Home Edition. When I start my computer, I get the Loading Settings screen, which automatically switches to the Saving Settings screen and then goes back to Loading Settings, Saving Settings, etc, etc, (the "Windows XP Startup" and "Windows XP Shutdown" sounds repeat themselves one right after the other). By the way, I have the XP tweak that skips the Welcome and log on screens at startup since I'm the only person that uses the computer. I've tried Debugging, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Restore To Last Working Settings and a few others, but nothing is working. I ran Spybot just before shutting down the computer the last time it worked and got the "Congratulations! Your system contains no spyware" message. When I restarted the computer, I started having this problem. I also have Norton Anti Virus 2004 and did a Live Update (manually) a few hours before this started happening.

All interested students sign a EULA and we were given a copy on cd with key code.Most of the other students used it to upgrade from prior os. I was told it is a full copy, so I allowed a clean install with it formating my hard drive to NTFS from the old fat32.Anyway, everytime I use Internet Explorer it gives error code " duplicate memory at line 945.

I got the following error "Service Pack 2 cannot update a checked(debug) system with a a free(retail) version of service pack2 or vice versa"Is there anything I could do to straighten this out? What is a checked(debug) system anyway?I did download a debug version of service pack 2 but Internet explorer still gives errors. Auto Update will download updates, but they all FAIL. Anything I can do? I would like to know what debug system is and if it is even worth having.

Nov 14, 2006I'm working on a Pav zt1130. Upon boot the message "A disk read error occured Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". I've checked the BIOS and it does appear to be seeing the HD. I've changed the boot order and attempted to boot from WinXP Home CD. It displays the "Setup is checking your configuration" message, then nada. The user said that it was running fine yesterday, but she booted this a.m. and received this message. She had a non-bootable floppy and a non-bootable CD in, but I've not seen that to cause this problem. Just a coincidence? HD failure the real culprit?

Jan 9, 2007In adding and removing components,I have the fax services that i want to eliminate which is 3.8MB. How do you delete/start. Oct 21, 2007Back about three weeks ago, in an effort to speed up my start-up on my computer, I ran Cleaner. It identified all the start up things. I went through one by one and disabled those that I had checked on a registry database. Unfortunately one of the first I disable was USERINIT.EXE.Now, as some of you may know, I can't login to my computer! I can power on, and try to log in, the windows attempts to load my preferences, and then logs out. Over the past several weeks, I have tried in vain to get some helpful suggestions on how to remedy the situation, but obviously my range of knowledge in dealing with this type of problem isn't strong enough to figure it all out. It was suggested by a friend that I just do a ffr, but quite frankly, I see that as a last ditch effort. I have files on the computer, that I really don't want to lose. And it seems that as I know what the problem is....there must be someway to fix it without going to the extreme. As my computer is 3-4 yrs old, my windows CD was only for SP1, and I don't think that would help....although I don't really know.

May 14, 2007I am using XP on my laptop,tried to boot up my computer and it was extremely extremely slow. Took maybe 15-20 minutes to get started.When the desktop finally came up, it was in a bad resolution. The cursor would move fine, but if i tried to click on anything it would pretty much completely freeze up.Id maybe be able to minimize a window, but no program would open at all.I don't really know what to do since it is pretty much impossible to do anything on the computer.I checked my hard drive in the computer BIOS and it didn't report any problems.Not really sure what my next step should be.I have a lot of information on my computer that i really can't lose, but don't really know how to back anything up at this point.What can i do?
