View 2 Replies View RelatedEvery now and then when i try to run a program that is on one of my mapped drives a window pops up saying the mapped drive doesn't exist. I go into my computer and sure enough all my mapped drives show disconnected but when I try to open them they open just fine and I can see all the files on the mapped drive. What would cause this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedAny idea what causes mapped network drives to appear as 'Disconnected.Network Drive' in 'my computer?' This happens even when a system is powered up with the networked system already online (supposed to reconnect on startup).Double-clicking the drive letter in 'my computer' accesses the drive and changes status to 'Network Drive.' Unfortunately, accessing by another app gets the 'disconnected' status. There must be a registry patch or option for this
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 3 drives mapped on a WinXP Media Center Edition machine, which always show up as Disconnected Network Drive with every boot. I can access them if i double click them, and then they are marked as connected. This is a problem, however, because when i load up Media Center, I have these 3 drives mapped under My Video, and they won't display. What I am doing now, is remoting into the system every time I boot it, opening each mapped drive, and then launching Media Center. But, this is a pain in the ***, because I jsut want to boot up and go with the remote control.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running remote desktop on Windows XP which ran fine for awhile. Now I get this error. "The remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol. Please try connecting to the remote computer again or contact your server administrator." The Microsoft knowledge base had this to say
"Cause: The licensing protocol handles the communication of licensing information between your computer and the remote computer. If there is an error in the licensing protocol, your computer cannot be connected to the remote computer. Solution: Try connecting to the remote computer again. If you continue to receive this error message, contact the server administrator"
I'm the server admin, and I can't figure this out. Please help! Where do I check to see if my license has expired? It's such a strange problem because I can connect to other servers in the domain, just not terminal servers.
Housemates go to Reno and bought a computer (an Emachine)The other day, they come to me saying the CD drive isn't working so I check it out. Insert a CD and nothing happens. No recognition, no whirring, no spinning, nada mucho. I defrag, clean up C, remove two viruses with AVG Antivirus, troubleshot hardware only to find the message, "this device is working properly", updated Windows XP, looked for a driver update but said, "no update drivers available",

I can be moving the mouse across the page, for example, when it will start responding erratically or stop. As this is happening the hd light blinks even though nothing is being saved or opened. I have disabled indexing, run virus checks and adware and spyware removal tools. I do have a wireless router attached but i haven't checked to see if it happens with my laptop also.

It came to can not read drive F. Options were fail, abort or retry. Nothing worked. so she called the the computer shop and they said it was because of the raid thing when. So they told her to go to gateway sight and put a program called serial ata on a disk and install it to her computer...
View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently destroyed file structure due to mistakenly writing a partition table to the wrong hard disk drive on my machine while installing an experimental version of OS X. The saving factor is that the partition that may have formatted was only 20GB out of 200GB and the rest was unallocated free space. I have installed a temporary instance of WinXP to use data recovery software and recover the majority of files from the drive (it is installed on the non-corrupted
drive).
Formatted hard drive no sound Sound & audio tells me I have no audio device I'm running an E machine.

I am using the MS CD Writer, I receive the error "There is no disc in the drive" when selecting properties is shows that the Discs have no free space, these are all brand new out of the package discs. I had this problem previously immediately after I upgraded to XP SP2, MS provided an executable that I ran and corrected the problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhile perusing my registry as part of running RegSeeker, I came across references to a number of programs (pathfinder, phobus, WinAmp for example) which have never been installed on this computer - at least not since I bought it from Dell in December 04. Is this my clue that this really ISN'T a new computer - that someone had installed these programs at some point, uninstalled them, and never cleaned up the registry? Or am I just being paranoid?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI recently got a virus on it and reinstalled xp. Now all the games I used to play on it are coming up with directx errors. When I looked at the errors in the diagnostic tool it tells me I am using generic drivers. So I popped my driver disk in and installed them all but it still gave me the same error. So I reinstalled directx 9.0 with no fix. I understand that this thing is a beast and I should just stop using it but, it is the only pc I want to clutter up with old games and stuff. And I know it is compatible because I used to play these games before.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm Currently Dual-booting between Windows XP and Fedora Core 5 on my laptop. I no longer want FC5 so I thought I would format that partition to regain my hard drive space. I thought the easiest way to do that would be to boot from my windows CD, but discovered that my System won't do that anymore (I know it used to, because thats how I installed FC5 in the first place). It won't boot from my FC5 cd's either. So I tried to access the BIOS to see what's going on, but for some reason I can't. The startup screen tells me to push F2 but that doesn't work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen the storm died down I booted the computer up and it made a series of "ca-click, ca-click" (that's pretty much exactly what it sounded like, too) noises. It ran slowly, but it managed to boot up. I ran all my programs normally, including logging into World of Warcraft. I got disconnect from the server (DSL hiccup, I think) and went to log back in. There's a bug in the game that sometimes causes computers to freeze on re-logging automatically into an instance. I could still hear ventrilo, but the monitor was frozen.
I told people I'd brb and pressed the power button. It rebooted and this time it made a LOT more clicking noises and paused at a black screen after the dell logo went away. After a few minutes it told me that one of my sys.dll files was missing and I needed to put in the windows disc and repair. Every time I subsequently restarted, a different file was supposedly missing. Sometimes it was NSFW and sometimes it was something else.
let me start by saying I have had a horrible time with wireless networks for my PC. I have a PC downstairs and a PC upstairs (they are about 10 feet apart through the floor). The PC downstairs is connected to the router/modem. I recently bought a new gateway adapter (Realtek RTL8185). I installed it and everything was fine. Now my problem is every 2 minutes it disconnects, but then reconnects right back (this is bad news for online gaming). The speed is okay, but I have tried reinstalling and everything. It works fine after a restart, but then it starts to disconnect/reconnect, and then just stop all together.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI use COMPUPIC imaging software which allows me to create a slide show where I can change the order of the individual JPEG files in a directory. I can then copy these files into a new directory from within COMPUPIC and it retains the new ordering, not the original alphabetic ordering. So far everything is great. However when I then try to copy these files to a CD they are reordered alphabeticaly. I'm using Windows XP and Roxia CD Creator 5 Basic. This is a problem since I would like to use the reordered file on my CD player to create a slide show in the order I specified in my Compupic imaging software.

I'm not using Linux on disk1 anymore, but I need the boot manager to boot XP on disk2. so the question is how safe is it to use the XP CD and fix/create a boot record on disk2? Are there any issues? I really don't want to restore because of the software is already working..
