Licensing Protocol Error - Remote Computer Disconnected
Apr 7, 2004
I'm running remote desktop on Windows XP which ran fine for awhile. Now I get this error. "The remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol. Please try connecting to the remote computer again or contact your server administrator." The Microsoft knowledge base had this to say
"Cause: The licensing protocol handles the communication of licensing information between your computer and the remote computer. If there is an error in the licensing protocol, your computer cannot be connected to the remote computer. Solution: Try connecting to the remote computer again. If you continue to receive this error message, contact the server administrator"
I'm the server admin, and I can't figure this out. Please help! Where do I check to see if my license has expired? It's such a strange problem because I can connect to other servers in the domain, just not terminal servers.

my daughters computer needs to have windows xp pro reinstalled. the computer used to have a raid setup but when one of the hard drives started to fail she brought it to the computer shop and they disconnected the raid and told her the drives were separated but not to put anything important on the one drive as its not so good. so last night we tried to reinstall windows . It came to can not read drive F. Options were fail, abort or retry. Nothing worked. so she called the the computer shop and they said it was because of the raid thing when. So they told her to go to gateway sight and put a program called serial ata on a disk and install it to her computer...

I'm the only user on my home computer, but I've started getting a sign on screen (which I never used to get) there's a box that has user name : Administrator and password:then on top of this is another box that says "logon message. The system could not log you on. make sure your User name and domain are correct, then type your password again. letters in passwords must be typed using the correct case".If I then replace "administrator" with my name (no password), it logs me in.I don't know what I did to change the login protocol

If you restore TCP/IP by means of reinstalling the protocol, not by the netsh command but by actually reinstalling. Would it be necessary to check the TCP/IP settings to see if it is correct if you are using a regular cable internet connection the via internet, no router configuration attached.

I am unable to access some headings (i.e. Drafts, sent items etc etc) on my hotmail account and various other sites which have headings. I can access it from other computers but not on my own. When i try to click on my drafts folder it doesn't let me view it. So I've right clicked on drafts and clicked on properties where it says unknown protocol... i'm not sure if this is the problem as when do the same from another computer it still says unknown protocol but it lets me access it. It's nothing to do with pop up blocker.

First a little background... My father-in-law has a small local network. He has a laptop that can connect to the main computer (desktop computer) via remote desktop with no problems; this laptop has windows xp home. He purchased another laptop that has Windows XP Media Center and I cannot get remote desktop to work on it. The message I get after entering the credentials is something about virtual memory being low. I have checked the virtual memory settings and everything looks fine. I don't really think that it has anything to do with virtual memory. From this new computer (The one with Windows XP Media Center) I can ping the desktop computer and I can share files and printers with no problem.Oh, one more thing...my brother-in-law can also remote desktop in just fine so it is something that is on this (new laptop) computer. The only thing I can think of is there is something with Windows XP Media Center that is preventing remote desktop even though everything seems to match up to the other laptop that can connect using Remote Desktop.Anyways, I am almost ready to install Windows Xp Professional on this laptop to get Remote Desktop working if I can't getting this working.Has anyone else had any problems with Remote Desktop with Windows XP Media Center before or does anyone know if there are any issues with it working with Remote Desktop.

Any idea what causes mapped network drives to appear as 'Disconnected.Network Drive' in 'my computer?' This happens even when a system is powered up with the networked system already online (supposed to reconnect on startup).Double-clicking the drive letter in 'my computer' accesses the drive and changes status to 'Network Drive.' Unfortunately, accessing by another app gets the 'disconnected' status. There must be a registry patch or option for this

I have 3 drives mapped on a WinXP Media Center Edition machine, which always show up as Disconnected Network Drive with every boot. I can access them if i double click them, and then they are marked as connected. This is a problem, however, because when i load up Media Center, I have these 3 drives mapped under My Video, and they won't display. What I am doing now, is remoting into the system every time I boot it, opening each mapped drive, and then launching Media Center. But, this is a pain in the ***, because I jsut want to boot up and go with the remote control.

The title says it all! Basically I have a comp running XP pro and I want to be able to work locally on one user account, with some kind of remote access server running on another XP user account so that the remote account and the local account can be used simultaniously. I know that this cannot be done with XP Pro remote desktop and could be by Windows Server 2003 remote desktop, but i need an alternate solution to make this happen.

Tying to access each others computer using Remote Assistance through window messenger .When I invited her, she was able to accept and see my computer. We would log out and then she would invite me I would accept but I was unable to log into her computer. It would not connect. We turned off the firewall that did not work. Turned off the virus protection that didn't work. Check for file sharing in the firewall all was checked. she can connect to me. But I can't to her. Is there something else I need her to look for that is stopping me from connecting.

I'm looking in using either using Remote Assitance and/or Desktop in a help desk support environment. For example, if a user calls in asking for assistance with a application, or if we are in need of troubleshooting the machine, we would like to initate a remote assistance request that takes the end user out of the equation so we don't need to walk them through how to send a email/file request.

When the storm died down I booted the computer up and it made a series of "ca-click, ca-click" (that's pretty much exactly what it sounded like, too) noises. It ran slowly, but it managed to boot up. I ran all my programs normally, including logging into World of Warcraft. I got disconnect from the server (DSL hiccup, I think) and went to log back in. There's a bug in the game that sometimes causes computers to freeze on re-logging automatically into an instance. I could still hear ventrilo, but the monitor was frozen.
I told people I'd brb and pressed the power button. It rebooted and this time it made a LOT more clicking noises and paused at a black screen after the dell logo went away. After a few minutes it told me that one of my sys.dll files was missing and I needed to put in the windows disc and repair. Every time I subsequently restarted, a different file was supposedly missing. Sometimes it was NSFW and sometimes it was something else.

let me start by saying I have had a horrible time with wireless networks for my PC. I have a PC downstairs and a PC upstairs (they are about 10 feet apart through the floor). The PC downstairs is connected to the router/modem. I recently bought a new gateway adapter (Realtek RTL8185). I installed it and everything was fine. Now my problem is every 2 minutes it disconnects, but then reconnects right back (this is bad news for online gaming). The speed is okay, but I have tried reinstalling and everything. It works fine after a restart, but then it starts to disconnect/reconnect, and then just stop all together.

I am running a small network of 10-15 computers all running W2K, XP home or XP Pro. We have one computer we use as a file share (W2K) and no servers and this seems to work well for us at the present time. As the administrator I'd like to be able to run scripts that will give me status on processes running on the remote computers. In particular, we are using Microsoft Backup to do our daily incremental backups for our one shared application. If a user remains logged into the app during the night the backup won't recover the open files.
