Computer Suddenly Refused To Connect To The Net

I got a virus (at least I THINK I did, I have no other explanation) about 2 weeks ago despite firewalls, up to date antvirus, and tons of other programs to keep me safe, ie: adaware, Spybot, spyware Blaster, MSN Anti spyware, loads of stuff. Anyway, my computer suddenly refused to connect to the net, when I put the mouse on ths "Start" button all I got was the dreaded hourglass, lots of niggly little things. I ended up installing a new hard drive as the master with the other as slave and was able to salvage most of my stuff. However, I now have no sound

anytime I am working on it it will suddenly turn off. I mean one second I'm working away and the next it's booting up as though someone flicked the switch off and on again really quickly. When it starts up it shows the message "Windows has recovered from a serious error". It happens when I doing 3d work, burning a dvd, listening to music or even opening a document. It's not and never was connected to the internet.

Am helping a friend get her Outlook Express working (pop3 server error), and wanted to go into msconfig to disable all items at startup in order to make sure no firewalls or anti-virus were causing problems. When she typed msconfig in the Run box, she keeps getting a 'word is misspelled try again' error message. Have you ever had this happen? As far as I know there is no other way to open the msconfig utility.

I just got hit by a trojan that attempts to download malware. My virus protection stopped all the downloads and I was able to manually remove the trojan, but I'm concerned I may have missed something. Three times in the last couple of days, I have discovered the dialer on my computer open like some application was trying to connect to the internet.

I am unable to connect to the internet from a computer that is directly connected to a 2Wire wireless router with a ethernet cable, the serial number to it is 2701HG-B. side note i am able to connect wirelessly with a laptop and even with a xbox 360 with an ethernet cable. i called support and they said that the problem is because of a software app but it is not the anti virus or the firewall i have installed.

currently unable to connect to the net via Forefox browser. From a read only CD, I have cleaned out several trojans, diallers and assorted rubbish, using Spybot, Adaware, and AVGfree. I have also installed Spyware Blaster. Connection remains unavailable. The installed Norton identifies C:windows erocheck.exe as a backdoor trojan but is unable to remove it and cannot then progress beyond the alert window so much for Norton.

I can't get it connect to the internet. I know the connection is good, because I can see other computers on my home network, and those computers can get to the internet (like this one). The Bad computer has IE 7, which loads ok but then I can't get anything on the web. Also have Mozilla Firefox loaded which I was using for a while, but now it won't even open up.

a problem with my computer freezing up. I have windows XP. I cannot enter Run on the start up menu. When clicking on a school program I have installed it freezes. I tried to uninstall AutoCAd LT thinking that may be causing a problem. I cannot remove it because the system freezes.The system ran fine a week ago. I do not have the system connected to the internet. I also tried system restore but still have a problem with the computer freezing.

I tried to install ZoneAlarm last week which crashed during the installation. This has caused multiple issues:1 - Can't shut computer down - I can get to the "log off", "shut down" and "restart" option of which none do anything so I'm forced to unplug as the power on/off doesn't work either. I've checked the power management options and these are normal.2 - Can't connect to the internet via my network card. Replaced the card as the network cable works on laptop and though it was the card but no luck(Modem goes to router which splits to 2 PC's and laptop

I shut down system restore and went into safe mode to clean out spyware,ect. In safe mode, spybot,i used ewiedo,smit,adware. i dont recall but i think spybot was the only program to find an item. When i rebooted in normal XP, i have been unable to connect IE6,Weatherbug,Widgets to my wireless connection. However Firefox is connecting pretty good,atlhough my wireless program is funny, its telling me there is no internet connection as i surf I tried 'internet options' such as resetting IE, i tried that scannow command. again, i dont have the system restore option to use. but also yahoo widgets are not connectiong nor weathebug.

I need lots of help, I have a HP system with Windows XP Pro. I tried to connect the system as a 2nd system to a linksys router.. went under network connections and no icon there in order for me to connect it to the router. Don't know how to set this up. That is one problem. The other problem is that when I start the system it will go to the Welcome screen and wont go any further. I tried reinstalling the Windows XP Pro but I think I really screwed things up

I use wireless device which connects to my Desktop downstairs,which in turn connects to the router upstairs. So I've been randomly disconnecting when playing games like WoW, and CoH & losing connection on the internet as well. It can't be the router I assume since the laptop upstairs which connects to the same thing never disconnects. I have a D-Link router and a D-link gaming router which connects to the PC. Any help?

I'm setting up my friends home network. They have 2 PCs connected via ethernet and one laptop on wireless. The router is a wireless router / modem from 2wire. PC number 2 and the laptop both connect with no issues. PC number 1 is weird though. I can go to 192.168.1.254 and it opens up the router system page and I can go through and change and view settings. However when I try to go to any websites it immediately goes to "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." I have tried netscape and the iTunes store and nothing can connect to the web. I have linux ubuntu on a Live CD and I can boot from that and it connects to the internet just fine.

As the title states my computer all of a sudden started to be really slow, this happened about a week ago.Well, a little history behind my Laptop. It's an Acer TravelMate 4070, and I got it at the end of summer vacation 2006, so it's kinda old, I know. Anyways, it has worked perfectly for it's purposes until a week ago. I only used it for Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Firefox, Messenger, iTunes and World of Warcraft (admitted; im addicted) which all ran with no problems at all.Now 3 weeks ago I reformatted it, due to helluvalot BSODS, and then I reformatted it again 2 weeks ago 'cos the 3 weeks ago reformat was a false copy of Windows XP, tho.
Firefox, WinRar, Windows Live, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Daemon Tools, VLC, Spytbot S&D, CCleaner and all the drivers for my laptop ofc.Then there went a week and I installed BitTorrent, 'cos I wanted something I've allready payed license on! After that there went 3 days and my computer suddenly started to run very slow.It takes 2 minutes to start up and explorer.exe uses additional 1 minute to load. Also, I can't play music and watch videos on it anymore, music simply gets a "lag" every 1sec, and videos plays like they have a FPS equal 1, plus my CPU speeds is on 60%+ if I have anything open at all or moves my mouse to fast.

I have been accessing my work VPN over my home firewalled wireless connection (WindowsXP) for over a year now on my Dell laptop. Suddenly, I am able to log on to the VPN, and it shows me connected, but I cannot connect to my mail or the databases. I have not intentionally changed any settings. Could this be a result of a security or windows update?

I have a MITSUMI CD-ROM FX54++M and a CR-48XCTE drives.they stopped working, and under device manager it says this for both: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" Im pritty sure that the reason for this was when i was installing quicktime 7 with itunes and it prompted me if i wished to change windows so that every time i put in a cd it would auto-run the cd, because after i rebooted they stopped working. If i uninstall the drives windows still detects them, and the drives work physically. I have changed autorun back to 0 in regedit but that has changed nothing, and when i tried to install the driver for the CD-R drive it says it cannot detect any drive. I also did a system restore and the drives still do not work
