During boot up, my friend's computer shows a screen where he has to choose which Windows installation to load. One choice is Windows, the other Windows (default). The latter is the one that works and Windows loads normally.Now as far as I can tell, he only has one version of Windows installed on his computer, so the message is a little strange.Any idea what is causing this, and how can I get rid of it?
View 3 Repliesfriend whose computer has crashed the screen had frozen. He could do nothing except reboot it using the power button but on rebooting, there was a 'no signal' message on a black screen. We have checked the monitor connections (the monitor works when connected to his second computer) and even replaced the video card but of course this made no difference (no signal) We've taken out the HD and installed it on his second system. Does this mean that the most likely cause now is the motherboard/bios or is there something wrong in our approach/deductions

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have searched for some weeks now and have seen an increase in people who also found that while viewing in the Full Screen option on You Tube and/or Hulu.com that the "Press Esc to Exit Full Screen" message that appears in the center of the screen does Not fade away after a few seconds. Of course that makes Full Screen viewing unacceptable. I posed the question to the site itself and have never received a reply. One general forum said something about Unlocking certain Files (Adobe) that were found locked because of cookie handling upon installation, but as a novice that is beyond my comprehension.In any case, is anyone aware of a fix for this problem? Is it creating more user folders? At some point Administrator.computer description name.000 wasn't there. Corrupted registry hive? I'm not sure! Restarted many times, used Last known good configuration, and it's still black after the boot screen. Please help!
i keep getting the above error message when i boot up my computer and it refuses to go an further, i have tried solutions provided on this forum and none will work as my recovery disc has a recovery utility on it which wants to format my HD and then reinstall windows. but i want to keep my files and i have no way of getting the files the HD at the moment.

When I cancel, it pops up again anything from 3-8 times. I keep it on all the time. The last two mornings I have found the computer shut down. So I ran it and it found a bunch of stuff and then deleted it all. Then when I restarted the PC I get the "NTLDR is missing, Press ctrl-alt-delete to restart" error message. So I found out how to fix that with a boot disk. Here comes problem number one. the recovery disk is HP Windows XP sp2. Im not sure if the OS is the same because the disk is from my laptop. (both are HP windows xp) So I put in the disk, hit ctrl-alt-del and press enter to boot from disk. Everything looks normal, it says windows setup, and is loading files at the bottom of the screen. At the welcome screen I press R and am taken to the recovery console. This is where it gets weird.

When I have the disc in, it loads to the blue install screen without asking me to press a key to boot from cd, I choose to install, partition the drive and format. It copies the files and then restarts, but when it loads again it still doesn't ask for me to press a key (which you aren't supposed to press the second time), and it loads back to the first menu, where I can start all over again.

I have tried doing FIXMBR and/or FIXBOOT, which will get me into Windows, but the next time I reboot or turn off/on my computer I get the same message and have to go through the same steps to make it work. i have a 250GB Hard Drive and I used Western Digital's Data Lifeguard Tools 11 Tools to allow Windows to recognize all 250GB and break the 24-bit barrier. When I install Windows XP Pro, it goes through the format and the file setup fine (as far as I know) and then when it goes to boot, it goes right back into the Setup Config...it doesn't go on to install Windows. When the disk is taken out it just continually restarts and claims that there is an invalid BOOT.INI.

It is possible to boot into safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc. but never boots up normally. 'Last Known Good..." does not help at all.
I have tried 'repairing' XP using the recovery console (deleting the boot.ini file, then BOOTCFG /REBUILD and then FIXBOOT) to no avail. Do not know where in the boot process it is getting hung up and not totally sure how to determine that.Using Windows XP Media Center Edition with SP2. Plenty of RAM and disk space.
Had this problem once in the past and it seemed to self correct after about 50 reboots.
Does this sound like a re-install of XP is required or are there any other options that might work?
hello, helping a friend, he has a screen msg which is actually the background now that says he has spyware etc etc and click here to buy a solution. It took over his settings for his background screen; and it will not let us do a system restore. It is linked to a site that says teslaplus but it may be a spoof. How do we get rid of it. We can not find it in starup tab of msconfig. We can not do a system restore to previous date. We can not do a right click and get background tab.
