I've been doing some extensive searching for a solution to this since it turned up last night.I run Windows XP pro connected to a SBS 2003 server, which has been running fine for the last three months. However, my PC bluescreened last night, forcing me to restart - unfortunately, the size of the screen and resolutions meant I could not actually read most of the exception. When I reboot, it loads normally, goes through the network connections and comes up with the 'Press CTRL ALT DEL to Login' screen. I press it and the screen just refreshes.

I have a Windows XP Pro computer at work. When I start the machine, I normally login to our work domain thru the "Ctrl+Alt+Del" login dialog. The company domain is selected by default or you can select the local computer. The company domain is controlled by a server running Small Business Server 2003.This computer is now going to be used at home for personnal use. How do I get rid of that "business" login and get back to the normal XP login? Normal XP login being the screen with the list of users and their associated icons.

I took the laptop home and tried to set it up on my home network. It had mapped network drives and the login still came up under the company domain. In the System settings, I changed it from being a "Computer primarily used in an office or work environment" to a "Computer primarily used in a home office environment". Now when it starts up, the domain is gone and I can't log in to the computer. It was under his work username and password, and it NO LONGER ACCEPTS THE PASSWORD because it is no longer logging in under a domain!

I have Windows XP Home system that shares a folder and 2 printers with 2 other XP Home systems and 1 XP Pro system. All 4 computers are in the same workgroup Somewhere between 10 and 30 minutes after startup the XP Pro system loses the ability to browse the local network and loses contact with the shared folder and the printers. The share and the printers are still visible and useable to the other systems on the network

I have a gateway 6520 gz laptop with IE6 and XPHE, I 'm on a network with two computers and use NETWORK MAGIC for the network, when I turn the laptop on it wants to display {the page cannot be displayed} instead of going online! Then NETWORK MAGIC pops-up and says {YOU ARE NOW CONNECTED} then I have to manually turn on IE6 button to go online, almost like the page {the page cannot be displayed} wants to come up first instead of the connection?

Have only tried this on XP Pro but it works great. Decreased my login time from 2mins to 15secs. Increased my network speed (ex. 170MB file took 15-20min. Now the same 170MB file takes less than 2mins). WOW!Here it is... Go into your network properties and then into your TCP/IP settings. Add your Server's IP address as Prefered DNS Server. Then select you Advanced button, go into your WINS tab and insert your Server's IP address for your WINS address as well. Reboot the system and you SHOULD see a difference. I have already tried this on several systems and have seen the same increase in speed

First of all, I would like to say that I am an IT tech, so there's no need to explain everything in details. I'm posting here, because I'm having trouble with some hardware compatibility that happens only with Windows XP Service Pack 2c , and not SP2.I might as well post this in the Hardware sub forum.According to Microsoft, there's nothing that was added to the OS, other than a new range of license keys. But for what I can see, there's definately something different other than that in the OS.Here are some specs of the systems I am using.

I have been in the recovery console, I have tried making a winpe boot disk "Failed due to errors" tried fixing the MBR, even tried to connect to it remote with regedit to make some changes in the registry with out success. I have even installed another copy of win xp on another drive and booted the system up with the 250gig in it and changed the drive letter in there. After taking the one drive out and booting with the 250gig it still has a letter of "C:" and still the same login loop.

I had left my computer on logged in on Windows 7 and when i got back the computer was in a continuous boot sequence (starts to boot, then after about 4 seconds shuts down and then over and over again). I reset the power from the back and turned it back on and it started up but with a different boot screen (Dynamic Energy Saver Quad6 Screen lol) and not the "black" one that normally comes up. It happened again last night and I think it happens when I leave my computer logged on in Windows 7. The weird thing was that after I reset the power from the socket (which stopped the loop) and turned it back on, it had me still logged on as a user and everything was like it was before I had left (basically like hibernate, except that hibernate is disabled on my computer

I have a friend, seriously - it's a friend not me, that had to do the windows genuine updgrade. She paid the $150 and instead of just plugging in the new product key she inserted the CD they mailed her and started a new install of windows. It seems it had trouble locating files and now she gets a option to select which operating system at start. The setup won't continue (it can't locate files on CD - maybe bad disk) and when she selects the original XP pro setup it won't let her past the login screen.

On some XP Pro installations, when connected to a network the computer boot time is over 1:40. The system seems to freeze after logging in and the desktop may not appear or will freeze for a minute. As timed with the utility, Bootvis.exe, the problem was with the driver mrxsmb.dll, adding over 67 seconds to the boot time. Turning off and restoring file and printer sharing eliminated 65 seconds from the boot time.1. Alt-click on Network Places/Properties2. Alt-click on Ethernet Adapter connection /properties3. Un-check File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks/OK4. Reboot5. If you need file or printer sharing, repeat the above, re-check the box and re-boot again.

Im on a network with a domain controller using dhcp, my computer runs on windows xp. When I booting up and Im connected to the network with my lan connection it boots up in no time, but when Im not on the domain using the machine at home it takes about 5 min to boot up. Why would this be and can I do something to fix it? I should add that my laptop that I had before had the same software and settings but did not take 5 min to boot up when not on the network.

My dad's Dell 8400 is having a series of issues. He posted a similar thread in the Hardware forum, but it's possible it might be more than hardware, so checking here to see if ya'll might have some suggestions (as I know this forum gets more visibility and he's getting anxious). He turned on the computer last night to have it not booting up at all. It gave a series of 4 beeps followed by 2 beeps, and then wouldn't do anything after that. He tried multiple times, with one or two of them bring him to the BSD asking to boot in safe mode or system restore.

During boot up, my friend's computer shows a screen where he has to choose which Windows installation to load. One choice is Windows, the other Windows (default). The latter is the one that works and Windows loads normally. Now as far as I can tell, he only has one version of Windows installed on his computer, so the message is a little strange.Any idea what is causing this, and how can I get rid of it?

What happened is I just installed a new Hard Drive and a fresh windows install (XP Pro with Service pack 3). After all was installed it logged into my account (Me) which was my account with Administrator privileges. I did a series of windows updates now when I turn my computer on it goes straight to the Administrator account and not my account (me). So I have to log off or switch accounts from Admin to Me. I just want it to login to Me all the time. So I am not smart enough to figure it out.
