I have a DELL Dimension 2350 Series computer with Win XP Home. Win Home was re installed by a friend who is knowdedgeable about computer Since then, Windows update has failed to come up with any updates of any kind. When I access the site, the screen states that it is scanning for updates but that's all... no updates ... and no SP2 either. My computer is unsecure
View 10 RepliesI set-up a FTP site on Windows 2000 server so two remote users could access files on the Server. I have a static IP address for the site. These two people who need access previously had static IP Address to the server. They would type in a web site address which would then request an IP Address. They then logged on the site that way with a username and password. They let the hosting service expire for the web site and stopped paying for the static IP Address.Now my friends want to to have access to the Server again.I set up a FTP Site on the Windows 2000 Server. First time for me doing that. The Properties of the FTP site can be viewed by clicking on the attached web site.I can ping the Static IP Address successfully.
View 10 Replies View Related1) i bought it with service pack 1, when i downloaded and installed service pack 2 from the good old windowsupdate site, things started getting funkky.
2) i can no longer install any new updates from the update site. i can download them but when the install part starts, i get errors and asks me to debug them.makes no sense to me.
3) more problems. randomly, my computer screen will sometime go comepletely blue, white white typewriter font, (a windows message) and it will say...blah blah error restart if its ur first time seeing this message.check recently added programs/hardware and contact their manufacturers if uve already seen this message.then it lists some numbers and it poops on me.
4)random popups saying i have memory loss / missing files - they will ask me to debug them or end them.then i have to send ANOTHER stupid error report to windows, yes those are a pain in.
5) my aol instant messenger has problems as well whenever i log off and close aim, i get errors about it saying i need to close it or debug it but i already closed it. sometimes it says im missing files from aim. but how? even when i just installed it
6) sometimes it says my files in win32are pooped.and i get weird errors like warning messages and all this weird crap.
so I'm ready to upgrade this thing to pro from ME. when i get to the boot up screen it starts scanning files or something along those lines. n/e ways, eventually it says that the ohci1394.sys file is corrupt then it has to restart. i have no clue what to do, i've never had this menu pop up when trying to install and i've used this cd before. any ideas on what to do?

That is, when i open my folders, such as 'My Documents' i am missing the 'Address bar' so i unlock the toolbar and add the 'Address bar' and then lock the toolbar again. But when i reset my computer the folders revert back to not displaying the 'Address bar'.I've run spybot, ad-aware, symantac AV, and Reg Mechanic and nothing has helped to fix it

I change the name servers and they have propgated because I checked the DNS on a DNS report website and the domain name points to the new host. Everyone can connect to the new host and view my web site except for me. The only way I can connect and view my web site is if I go to it through a proxy. I tried flushing the cache. I tried clearing the temporary internet files and history. I tried disabling the negative caching through the registry. I tried restarting the dns client service.

I had a friend over looking stuff up on the net on my system. One of the sites he was on was infected but my antivirus blocked it. When i restarted my computer it was running at a constant 50% cpu usage.went to task manager and saw one of my svchost.exe running at 50%. I closed it out then my cpu restarted on its own. When I got back on its still running at 50%. I tried scanning for virus and malware but it showed up as nothing. I used avast and malwarebytes.

I see no instance of it after running AdAware again, but when trying to run Spybot S&D and Panda Scan my computer locked up on both programs. I've ran HJT and see no reference to FastSearch, but do see a few WinLogOn entries that look suspicous to me, as well as a Wild Tangent entry I know will need to be removed. I'd just like to have some more experienced eyes take a look at my HJT log.I'm running XP Home edition on a HP Pavillion a320n with 512 RAM (yes, time to add some new memory as well).

I successfully cleared out all traces of the virus that I could find using ad-aware and trend micro house call.When I was scanning with adaware, it shows the filenames and paths being scanned. There were all of these files(and I mean thousands) with porn names, and I had never put them there. Adaware didn't catch them as any sort of bad file either. The weird thing is, when I went to the directory that it said they were located in, nothing was there. I even made hidden files visible and still nothing.

i have a hp deskjet 4180 and for the first few months i had it, i've had no problems. Since then it hasn't worked properly. it keeps giving me an error that the hp cue-scanning flow component has encountered a problem and needs to close. and i usually scan my checks to my bank thru my scanner but now my bank isn't even picking up that i have a scanner.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just recently deleted a folder that i wasn't supposed to delete inside my EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE. Inside that folder were 2 other very important sub folders. It was over 8 gigs so when i deleted it, i fortunately commited the same mistake of pressing the "yes" button again when it asked the files to bypass the recycling bin being permanently deleted from the computer. In fact it happened so fast it seemed like it vaporized. It was hard to believe that over 8 gigs of files were eliminated that fast, whereas usually any big file i would delete would normally take a while for the computer to process. I seriously doubt the worst here, and i have tried about 4 data recovery programs that were only able to detect the very main folder that was deleted but not the more important 2 subfolders inside of it containing the big chunk of the data. I've even been able to detect files that were deleted months ago through these programs, but not the important 8 gigabyte chunk i just deleted an hour ago. By the way i tried scanning both the C rive(main) and the external hard drive and browsing through the :/recycle folders, but to no avail

After reopening My screen had gone to some weird colours which made text look all shadowed and hard to read. I managed to change both colour and contrast to make it readable, but it still has grey lines across the screen. I changed the monitor but it made no difference.

Then 3 days ago at the end of the night I went to shut it down and it said "install updates and shut down." So, I told it to install and shut down. The next day when I went to turn it on, for the first time since that shutdown, it froze on the XP loading screen. I manually turned it off, then tried again and selected to start windows normally. It came up fine, and ran just great since then, with a couple of different shutdown and restarts in between. Last night, it again said "install updates and shut down." I clicked for it to install and shut down. Now this morning I can't get past the XP loading screen. I have tried 4 different times. I don't know what to try. I also, don't know if the "install and shut down" is part of the problem or just a coincidence.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an old 80gb HD that has some old files I would really like to get back. I think something went wrong with the boot.ini or something but it will no longer boot. It still has all the files. I am now using it as a slave drive on my current system(XP PRO SP2). The problem is that I need the files off a pw protected user. It is my old loggin so I know the pw but it wont let me into it. I was thinking that if my current loggin was the same I might be able to access it but no such luck.
