Jul 24, 2005i was just wondering when you do a virus scan and an adware and spyware scan, will it scan other peoples user acounts on my PC. because their files are protected from me accessing them

Nov 24, 2008My computer went crazy the other week and nothing where working etc. i tried to recover my windows xp but it didnt want to recover and insted i reinstalled the whole thing.now i've got an old Adminstator account that i cant access, its taking all 5g of my disc space and i kind of have only 20g on the C:drive... i've tried practicly everything and nothing has worked so far, when trying to access the folders it only says that the folder is not accessible... I really dont wanna have to wipe out the whole hdd but its really iritating and i need that extra 5g for some things i'm doing.so is there anything i can do about this than refreshing the whole hdd?

Apr 7, 2010I had a friend over looking stuff up on the net on my system. One of the sites he was on was infected but my antivirus blocked it. When i restarted my computer it was running at a constant 50% cpu usage.went to task manager and saw one of my svchost.exe running at 50%. I closed it out then my cpu restarted on its own. When I got back on its still running at 50%. I tried scanning for virus and malware but it showed up as nothing. I used avast and malwarebytes.

May 10, 2009I've seen a bunch of threads where people say they login to the computer and it won't let them open their user settings, or it does but their desktop items are gone. Long story short, everyone was told to create a new User and copy the setting over from the c:documents and settings. What happens if the files aren't there? I have rolled my mouse over the c: drive and it shows that my file size is still the same and that my files should be there. But when I do a search for them or try and find the files, they aren't there?
All of the items from my desktop, start menu (including system restore) are gone. If I search for system restore in the help settings I can run it.. But running it back further than I was having the issue still doesn't fix it?
Cannot Delete Multiple User Folders - Nasty Virus

Apr 16, 2009I recently recovered from a nasty virus on my laptop that 'slipped through' Norton AV.I pulled the hard drive and put in a USB enclosure kit and cleaned it with updated Norton and Malwarebytes. I also used UBCD4WIN Boot CD to regain access to the system which corrupted all of the user accounts (userinit.exe)I re-installed and booted the machine in safe mode and after quite a bit of work was able to log in as administrator While there I ran a few reg. c
leanup programs and created a new user with admin rights from Control Panel.My old personal log-in profile (also with administrator rights) still doesn't work. I also can not access these user's files in docs. & sett. while logged on as administrator. I know that they are there ( a lot of docs.) because I can see them when the AV software is scanning the folder(s).Is there a way to retreive these files?

Recieve Emails After Scanning With AVG
Oct 9, 2007I have AVG and now I cannot receive emails unless I do a hard reboot of the computer. I can get the initial emails, but once the AVG runs the email scan, it times out and says cannot find the server.I have to hard reboot again in order to receive the emails. I have tried everything my limited skills allow me.This is frustrating.I am running Outlook Express for my emails, through Comcast.

I see no instance of it after running AdAware again, but when trying to run Spybot S&D and Panda Scan my computer locked up on both programs. I've ran HJT and see no reference to FastSearch, but do see a few WinLogOn entries that look suspicous to me, as well as a Wild Tangent entry I know will need to be removed. I successfully cleared out all traces of the virus that I could find using ad-aware and trend micro house call.When I was scanning with adaware, it shows the filenames and paths being scanned. There were all of these files(and I mean thousands) with porn names, and I had never put them there. Adaware didn't catch them as any sort of bad file either. The weird thing is, when I went to the directory that it said they were located in, nothing was there. I even made hidden files visible and still nothing.

Dec 31, 2006I just recently deleted a folder that i wasn't supposed to delete inside my EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE. Inside that folder were 2 other very important sub folders. It was over 8 gigs so when i deleted it, i fortunately commited the same mistake of pressing the "yes" button again when it asked the files to bypass the recycling bin being permanently deleted from the computer. In fact it happened so fast it seemed like it vaporized. It was hard to believe that over 8 gigs of files were eliminated that fast, whereas usually any big file i would delete would normally take a while for the computer to process. I seriously doubt the worst here, and i have tried about 4 data recovery programs that were only able to detect the very main folder that was deleted but not the more important 2 subfolders inside of it containing the big chunk of the data. I've even been able to detect files that were deleted months ago through these programs, but not the important 8 gigabyte chunk i just deleted an hour ago. By the way i tried scanning both the C rive(main) and the external hard drive and browsing through the :/recycle folders, but to no avail

I need to find out if I have another virus (although the guy who fixed it downloaded Norton Anti-Virus and it seemed fine for a few days) or if maybe my computer is just dying. It's about three years old and apparently it was outdated before we even bought it.
